Rory reminds me of Phil as a streak/confidence putter

yup. in fact, stylistically, i see them as remarkably similar. both are preposterously long, take on some of the riskiest shots that make you go “wtf?” yet pull their asses out of the fire more often than pretty much anyone else out there. rory’s driving is as strong as phil’s shortgame (and phil’s driving is as hot/cold as rory’s wedges), they both are excellent with their irons and, like you said, streaky putters that often implode.

it’s the phil-like brainfarts that worry me about rory…that’s a habit which is extremely hard to break when you’re that talented.

ben crenshaw, george archer, arnold palmer, jack, faldo, brad faxon, kenny knox, dave stockton, loren roberts, bobby locke, george low and billy casper come to mind as all time greats too.

webb leans on tesori like crazy, but it’s worked extremely well. tesori’s one of the best caddies on tour (vijay) and webb was a no-namer that needed guidance. it’s been a great partnership, but it’s annoying watching them chat for a few minutes before every shot.

sneds might have nice proximity numbers, but i think calling him a great wedge player isn’t quite right. despite being one of the best putters on tour, he’s not great around the greens. he’s ok out of the sand, but is a pretty shitty chipper.

i dont think he’s BY FAR the best putter on tour, but he’s definitely in that elite class. i think luke donald’s the best putter on tour personally, but id put sneds, stricker, brian gay, zach johnson, aaron baddely, ben curtis, ian poulter and greg supernintendo chalmers right there with donald. you cant really go wrong with any of em…or phil when phil’s on FIRE.

then you see guys like webb simpson have a god damned heart-to-heart with their caddies

in 2012 he was 11th in proximity from 75-100, 26th from 100-125, 47th from 150-175 and 15th from 250-275. just think about that…he’s fairly money in the “birdie zone” and pretty damn good on going for par 5′s. when you combine that with his putter (1st in strokes gained), no wonder he does so well.

he’s one of my favorite players on tour…not only is he a HELLUVA player, he plays super fast, is down to earth and, from all accounts, one of the highest quality people out there. i think he’s fucking great.

Every team in the top 10 has a serious set of issues

Well of course, a big part of who will advance in the tourney will depend on the match-ups. Like I said I think their biggest problem is shot selection and patience. Their defense and rebounding have been strong. You play those two well, you always have a shot in the tourney.

Their frontcourt presents even more of a match-up problem with Kadji, Johnson and Gamble. Miami is for real, and if you don’t think so you haven’t been watching them. Of course they could bow out in the tourney, but it wno’t be because they aren’t a top team in the country this year. Their biggest downfall will most likely be dependence on the 3, specifically if they get down early and panic, no tourney experience on the whole roster.

I watched almost all of Miami’s ACC games. I didn’t say they would lose because they aren’t a top team, I’m saying those 3 specific teams which are all in that 7-10 range will provide issues for Miami which I they will have problems handling. Mainly they can pressure the ball in a way Miami has not had to face in the ACC. I really like Larkin and like their lineup when Johnson gets into the game, but what happens when teams have lockdown guard play? How does Scott get his points? I think that’s when it’ll get interesting for them. Every team in the top 10 has a serious set of issues (Syracuse lack of inside scoring, Indiana’s defense, Florida’s depth, Michigan State’s scoring punch, Gonzaga not facing anyone) but I think their ones could be enhanced by playing a group of poo poo teams in the ACC. Just wish they were getting a bit more tested by higher quality teams. Not their fault, but just the reality. Gonzaga is in the same boat. And to an extent so is Duke, but without Kelly they look like a different team altogether.
