There was an NBA player who tried to throw the ball straight up to run out the clock (probably 5-8 years ago)…it was premature. Other team got the ball, scored, and won

John “Hot Plate” Williams notoriously did something similar in a game vs. Georgia in 1984-85, sometime around there. LSU leads by one, couple of seconds on the clock, Williams is trying to inbounds the ball under LSU’s basket and instead throws it the length of the court and OB, thinking the clock would run out. It didn’t. Georgia then inbounds under their own basket, gets the layin and wins.

I knew it was somebody really ugly, but I thought it might have been the nutgrabber.

The girl with the amazing clock management skills is Anna Olsen of Lewis-Palmer High School in Colorado. Sometimes you forget to check the clock and attempt to throw the ball the length of the court with :15 remaining.

One of my finest grade school moments involved me shouting “THREE, TWO, ONE” at some kid on the other team as he crossed half court. He heaved up a prayer with about 12 seconds to go and I had an uncontested layup the other way. That kid’s dad hated me.
