Boston Red Sox OF Prospect Bryce Brentz Shot Himself While Cleaning His Gun
He likes his guns clean. He also probably prefers they don’t go off unexpectedly.
Brentz suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound during some firearm maintenance a few weeks ago. The bullet went into his leg and out the other side, according to Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington.
“It’s something he’s going to recover from and be fine, and it won’t affect his baseball career,” Cherington said. “I think he understands he got lucky. It’s a serious thing. He’s got to be careful.”
Brentz won’t be ready when the team’s camp opens later this week, but there’s hope he’ll be healthy before the end of spring training.
The 24-year-old made it to Triple-A Pawtucket last year and is the N0. 8 prospect in the Boston organization according to Baseball America.

Kyle – Were you paid for this post?
Regards, Mole.

Probably in Paolo points or cheese checks.

Not to rag on the new guy, but how you take a “cleaning his gun” statement at his word seems naive to me. (every other article did it too). What responsible gun owner, or even the stupid ones, has ever shot himself in the leg cleaning a gun. And he wont say where the wound is either, so I’m very skeptical.
I’m guessing he was being an idiot, fooling around, shot himself, and it had nothing to do with ‘cleaning’ at all.
And ‘prospect’ is a stretch. He’s a 4th OF. A crappy version of Trot Nixon maybe.

Though if this were suggested in the post, your comment would probably be that “the take” was offensively presumptuous.

I don’t mind skepticism. I mind blatant idiocy to get pageviews.
Also… I’m not a journalist, I don’t have the same journalistic standards* you have.

I’m proud to say I’m not a member of that team.

I’m sure it’s happened. Ever handled a flintlock muzzleloader with the two trigger system? You pull the one back, which sets the other one to a hair trigger. You could probably sneeze while resting that gun in your lap and it’d go off.

It was a handgun. Let’s not get hung up on ‘ever’ and look at ‘likelihood’. It’s this kind of thing, cleaning or not, that makes me hesitate on gun rights. At least require a class or IQ test. OR DONT CLEAN IT POINTED AT YOUR LEG

You never specified handgun.

They make muzzleloader pistols too.

I wasn’t basing my comments on links. Based them off of what you said. What responsible gun owner, or even the stupid ones, has ever shot himself in the leg cleaning his gun? Guarantee you it’s happened more than you think.

Not a gun owner, so I shouldn’t get involved. Who the fuck is this Kyle character? How many unpaid interns are there? I count like 6…Ronny, Kyle, thew FSU chick, and that other guy i’ve never heard of. Ok that’s 4.
/6 beers in

Not sure if FSU chick still posts, Bashuk or Bakush seems to only do posts with big charts. Who knows?

Better idea:
Pay Meth! Any new opportubnities yet?
February 9th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
I get paid, just not enough. Still keeping an eye out. My Dad got restationed so I threw the South Carolina idea out. Thought about maybe using my tax return and (perfect timing in this post) selling my handgun to fund some equipment to try and get my own thing going on the side. I’d have enough, just don’t know if I want to blow it all and have it not pan out. That’s the risk. Could just throw all my money in savings and hold off till I find something better paying and then add a few months savings to it. I’ll figure it out eventually.
February 9th, 2013 at 6:37 PM
what kind of thing do you want to do on the side?
February 9th, 2013 at 6:42 PM
Was going to start out with just a pressure washing machine and the accessory to do roofs as well. There’s money to be made in that if you can get steady business, and it’s not a huge investment up front. Machine, accessory, extension ladder and few other things added up to a little under 2 grand. Not sure what license and insurance run though, that’s another thing I’d have to look into. Friend of mine who owns his own business and the landscaping guy I worked for in high school I’m sure would put a word out with there customers to try and get me started. It sounds like a really good idea and worthwhile investment in my head. When it comes time to actually clear the bank account I start to wonder if I’ve got the brass, though.

”
Finally, a man in Texas was arrested today for shooting and killing:
his wife, son, two daughters, his mother and father, all four of his
grandparents, his dog, his mailman, three neighbors, and a woman who
works at the filling station. He claims he was just cleaning his gun
when it suddenly went off.” – George Carlin
February 9th, 2013 at 6:47 PM
not sure you’d need any licensing, but definitely need insurance for something like that. there’s a market for it, but like you said, the steady business is the key.

I’m really surprised anyone cleans a gun without checking whether it’s loaded or not.
