Duke Fans Allegedly Chanted ‘How’s Your Grandma’ at NC State’s Tyler Lewis, Whose Grandma Just Died. But This Sounds Like ‘Past Your Bedtime’ [UPDATE]
Tyler Lewis, an NC State freshman who is 5-foot-9 and 157-pounds, looks like he’s a sophomore in high school. His grandma recently passed away, and a newspaper wrote about it.
As Duke was hammering NC State Thursday night (final: 98-85, but it wasn’t even that close), Lewis toed the line and Cameron Crazies began to serenade him with a chant. It sounds like “past your bedtime,” which would be a reference to his young looks. But a bunch of folks on twitter thought they heard, “how’s your grandma,” and here we are.
You really can’t tell from this video, and I loathe Duke, but come on. Do you really think they were chanting “how’s your grandma?”
[UPDATE: Some Duke fans did chant "how's your grandma" according to the News & Observer, which spoke to Lewis's father. "It was mostly 'Past your bedtime,' but there was an instant when a brief number of students chanted about Tyler's grandmother," Rick Lewis said Friday. "It wasn't the entire student section, I think a few tried to outdo themselves."]

Stay classy Duke.
February 8th, 2013 at 9:54 AM
sounds like past your bedtime. it wouldn’t shock me to hear the Izzone chant that, though. Very disappointed with what that has become in recent years.
February 8th, 2013 at 9:56 AM
Kind of doubt they would do that given the situation with Dawkins.
February 8th, 2013 at 9:59 AM
Coach K is class if that had been chanted he would have had no problem stopping to tell the crowd to stop. He has done it before.

Dookie fans chanted “U-S-A” at Len earlier this year.

The scoreboard video of his grama being raped in hell was a little much.

That story about the Siberians looks awesome, some good links there.

And NC State fans are annoying, and also this whiny.

So no post on King Felix getting the richest pitchers contract in history?
February 8th, 2013 at 10:11 AM
1/3 sports, 1/3 sports media, 1/3 misheard statements on tv.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:12 AM
no room for posts on dying sports around here bro.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:12 AM
Maybe they are chanting “you are about to cum on her dress”.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
congrats to King Felix. That’s about the extent of the coverage, unless you can pitch an idea to Lisk that involves $ & numbers.
Also, who cares about baseball in February?
February 8th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
also true
February 8th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
King Felix, there is an Allen from “The Answer” Investment Solutions on line one.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
Always can speculate on how much Verlander will get? It’s possible that he’ll get 30M a year. Lisk could always do some statistical breakdown of what pitcher is worth the most.

Utah State fans > Duke fans.

agree that we should be discussing more preseason NASCAR.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
oh yeah he is just class personified
/wank
February 8th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
They said color
February 8th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
class or sanctimonious, however you want to view it, Coach K wouldn’t have allowed that chant.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
awesome (seriously)
February 8th, 2013 at 10:27 AM
I was there…it was “Past Your Bed Time” because he looks like a nine-year-old boy. Having said that, the kid actually played a pretty good game considering it was his first start.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:27 AM
Sam Wyche wouldn’t have let that go on.

Pitchers and catchers report early next week for most teams and the rest of the players have to report by the end of next week for most teams.
Not totally unheard of to talk about baseball during spring training.

Milk Steak –
Thanks for the link to the keg beer chart yesterday. I think that was you.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:31 AM
or maybe “come see my nuts”
February 8th, 2013 at 10:34 AM
Ritty – sure. The european tap is worth a $30 investment.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:34 AM
Um, I hate Duke with a passion but Tom they were 100% chanting past your bedtime. Nothing to see here, this is The Big Lead type slander here. Edit
Above is from the Deadspin comments.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
Didn’t we have about 3 posts on baseball yesterday?
February 8th, 2013 at 10:52 AM
I don’t bitch here much, but don’t tell me there isn’t a worthy post for Felix and numbers. His contract compared with other high profile pitcher contracts and their stats would be incredibly easy and fit your schtick.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:58 AM
Arizona State fans yelling “PLO” at Steve Kerr will never be topped.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:02 AM
tough to evaluate these deals now with all of the TV money that is skewing things, but I still don’t think I would ever give a pitcher that type of contract
February 8th, 2013 at 11:05 AM
If ever there was a fanbase that should have been covered in bear mace during the game, it was them…can’t imagine how that would go over today with all the added exposure and flow of information
February 8th, 2013 at 11:09 AM
Tend to agree with you. But hands are pretty much tied. Things could switch quickly for that team with a few smart moves. And you’d hate to see him have success with a big-market team that did pay him
February 8th, 2013 at 11:10 AM
Never heard of this incident until this post…After reading about it, I’m not sure bear mace is strong enough. Mustard gas gets my vote.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:20 AM
This blog really carving out a niche for itself by mishearing statements made my sports figures.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:29 AM
I really wouldnt call Duke students “sports figures”. Posers. Definitely
February 8th, 2013 at 11:47 AM
Arizona State fans yelling “PLO” at Steve Kerr will never be topped.
yeah that was really cool, I suppose you really liked Sandy Hook too.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:57 AM
TBL originally thought they were chanting “Foot Rub Ryan”
February 8th, 2013 at 6:21 PM
You’re right Coach K would have stopped them. He is that powerful – he would have immediately raised his pitchfork and the followers would stop instantly.
