For fans of his books this is terrible news. It took him 6 years to get the last one done, 5 years for the one before and those were without the distractions of one show with new ones coming.
Now that is a Roundup girl. Good choice.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:37 AM
“The Americans” is going into regular rotation. Excellent show. Please don’t go the way of “Homeland.”
February 7th, 2013 at 8:38 AM
Nice pink PS3 controller in the dog video.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:39 AM
Seann William Scott was pretty good in “Goon”
February 7th, 2013 at 8:39 AM
I’m guessing the 2nd episode was good? I have it DVR’d and will watch it tonight.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:40 AM
I can get behind this.
Someone didnt let Sean in on the joke.
Luckily he didn’t smack his face/jaw off the tailgate of the truck in frotn of him.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:42 AM
This was my exact reaction. Is there even a long-range target for the release of the next book? 2015? 2016?
February 7th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
me likey the round up girl
I downloaded the americans this morning, will watch it when I get home from work
Keri Russell can still bring it
February 7th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
NO. NO. NO. Finish your stupid books, jackass!
February 7th, 2013 at 8:46 AM
Not so well played by the publicist.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
Delanie Walker’s aunt and uncle were killed by a drunk driver after the Super Bowl. [WWLTV]
that really sucks. lose the SB and then 2 family members.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
I guess I should get ready for the “booke are better!” crowd when Game of Thrones comes back. I hate those people.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:50 AM
Why? Generally, books are better than the movie version.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:51 AM
Exhibit #1: the Godfather
February 7th, 2013 at 8:52 AM
It ain’t that. There will be no source material after a couple more seasons. Or worse, they start splitting the remaining books into 3-4 seasons each, stringing you along with no payoff. Dude isn’t young.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:53 AM
had to bring this up from last night’s recruiting thread…
BEST? ahahah. no. im not sure it even cracks the top 5…texas, florida, alabama, oregon and ND are all better spots to be for a CFB coach.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:54 AM
So…was he like 13 or 14 when she was conceived?
February 7th, 2013 at 8:55 AM
To me, reading a book and watching something on a screen are two completely different forms of entertainment. I find no need for comparisons.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:55 AM
Sub OSU/UM for Oregon and you’re right. Facility wise UO is good, but they don’t have a local talent base (w/in 200 miles) to compete with the big boys.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:56 AM
They have at least 5 seasons of material. Storm of Swords is already going to be 2 seasons, then let’s assume Feast for Crows (worst of the books) is 1 season, and then Dance w/Dragons is 2 more. Hopefully the he can put out at least one more book in the interim, buying HBO another 2 years before they need to get really creative.
/regardless – start writing fatass
February 7th, 2013 at 8:57 AM
She’s table grade
February 7th, 2013 at 8:57 AM
Foster is the ultimate yeah-but recruit. If you got him, you said, “yeah…but keeping him out of trouble will be a bitch.” If you didn’t get him, you said, “yeah, but thank god we won’t have to deal with him.”
I’d wager a good bit of cash he ends his college career outside of the SEC.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:58 AM
i think OSU/UM aren’t as attractive of jobs though because of the pressure of fitting into the culture, like what rich rod went thru. oregon might not have the recruiting base, but they’re not far from cali, are very attractive to JUCO’s, have a competitive mega-booster and are crazy visable in terms of national status.
i think going forward, oregon’s def a top 5 destination and it comes with less pressure than at a traditional power.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:58 AM
Agreed. Less side projects, more raping 13 year olds
February 7th, 2013 at 8:58 AM
Pic for reference. Probably is a 19 yr old SR in high school
February 7th, 2013 at 8:59 AM
And they don’t have Chip selling the program anymore. But their facilities are much better than good, and they’re about to open an insane building for athletics this summer. I suspect they have the best (or will have very shortly) the best facilities in the country.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:00 AM
Speaking of recruiting (which I rarely do)… I had ESPN open for something and a video started autoplaying. On it, some dude was talking about how for Ole Miss this class just came together and sometimes things fall into place.
Sounded exactly like the guy in 2000 talking about McGwire’s workouts and training helping him hit those HRs.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:01 AM
Went to Austin this week. Loved it. Missed out on some of the great BBQ places I wanted to hit up due to time issues. Also, I saw perhaps the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen in the Austin airport. Best part was she was an ATL native (of course).
February 7th, 2013 at 9:01 AM
Then I’ll just leave this here…
Also, the reddit comments on this story are hilarious
February 7th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
I think they’re both on the same level of greatness. HBO is able to consult with Martin and you get this awesome television show. When you don’t get that collaboration you end up with something like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Both versions just completely ruined the book.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
Subjective Debate Thursdays! Next up IPAs versus every other type of beer, and then regional BBQ.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
Trent Richardson and Dre Kirkpatrick both had kids when they signed with Bama. It’s not like this is some sort of new phenomenon we’re dealing with here.
Not sure how you conjured this up, but what trouble has he been in? He’s an immature high school kid with no father. You need to provide an example if you’re going to make a statement like that.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
I knew hand-railings shaped like footballs were a bad idea!
February 7th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
They flat out bought Laremy Tunsil. The family played it perfectly, too. They were all set to go to UGA when Ole Miss came in and basically said, “what can we do to beat out UGA?” They told them they wanted their kids to go to school for free (and Tunsil’s) GF/fiance. She’s apparently a fucktard and can’t get into most schools (certainly not UGA as an out of stater) and all of a sudden Ole Miss just landed the best OT prospect to come out in years. Tunsil was the only recruit UGA missed out on that really pissed me off. The other DL were all better suited for the 4-3, so I can’t blame them for going that route.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:04 AM
I love the show. Just wish that Martin wouldn’t get even more distracted with additional shows when at this point there seems to be little chance of him finishing the book series. It seems at this point that he almost just doesn’t want to write the books anymore.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:04 AM
god damnit alabama’s so much better than everyone else.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:04 AM
All that’s true of Florida, Alabama, ND and Texas too, tho. In the end, local talent is the lifeblood of a program. With Ohio, Pennsylvania and to a lesser extent, Illinois close by, there’s plenty of talent to stock ND, OSU and UM.
By rights (i.e., w/out Chip Kelly) Oregon is at best 2nd in the Pac-12, behind SC. LIkely 4th behind UCLA and UW.

February 7th, 2013 at 9:06 AM
Getting into a brawl on visits is one example. Having a 4-year-old is another. Kids cause serious stress in one’s life, especially when you’re time is going to be dominated by football. He’s also borderline retarded, so keeping him academically edible should be a true joy for some GA. I know you’re pumped to have him as he’s a perfect 3-4 LB, but if you don’t think he’s going to be a problem at some point or another, you’re out of your mind.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:06 AM
Shameless link dropping here, but I wrote about this last year. HBO could be in a tough spot.

My friends said the same thing and I was actually trying to merv a pic, but couldn’t pull it off without looking like a stalker.

Also, action movie star in favor of guns? Whouda thunk it?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:07 AM

Coppola is saving the Lucy Mancini chapters about her vagina operation for when his wine business goes bankrupt.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
I don’t know if bourbon barrel aged stouts should be in the same category as everything else. That quite the specialty, but they can be king of the rare/unique category.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
He’s not a thug like Crowell was, but he’s going to be an issue for Bama. But luckily for Bama, they’ll just cut his ass if he poses a problem. That may be just what he needs, though. Richt would try to save him or some shit like that, and AUB would need him too much to dump him. He probably made the right choice in picking Bama due to Saban’s roster management style.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
“Wow you’re from Atlanta? I am too and I haven’t met anyone else from Atl since I’ve been in Austin, can I get a picture with you?”
February 7th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
Impressive show of restraint.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
I wonder if the Big 12′s time as one of the top two conferences is about to come to an end? I heard yesterday that Bama had 12 of the ESPN top 100 players signed, and the entire Big 12 conference had 3.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:10 AM
agreed on that last part, but im not too sure about the first part…look at how rich rod was reviled for the type of offense he ran and style of player he brought in. sure a lot of that was fueled by not having a lot of success, but any objective person couldve seen growing pains on the horizon.
but rich rod had vociferous skeptics almost from the day he was hired. the “michigan way” was lining up and out-executing the opponent like bo preached…the pro-style way.
florida’s new money…what’s their identity as a program? where’s florida’s student body left or 3-yards and a cloud of dust? texas had no problem taking up the spread with VY and changing their identity.
oregon’s not the worst recruiting base because of cali’s incredible talent and the nike factor. and it’s not just money, otherwise oklahoma state would be on that level too.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:11 AM
I’ve read the Dahl book and I don’t see how the first Willie Wonka movie was that outrageous. The family was brutal financially. Was the director supposed to show the old man slaving away at the factory putting toothpaste caps on to make it more accurate?
That was a brilliant movie, plenty of visuals for kids to like and plenty of high-minded wit and well-played jabs for adults.
Dahl’s just got his panties in a wad and pissed & moaned when the movie was different. Get in line Dahl with almost every other other who had their books turned into a movie.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:11 AM
I’ll grant you that. If we are talking non-BA beers, then my rankings probably change a bit:
Stouts > DIPAs > Sours/Wilds > IPAs > Barleywines
February 7th, 2013 at 9:11 AM
Where are you located, angry? Being in TN, and spending time in KY, I see a new bourbon barrel beer (not just stout) pretty often, I forget that isn’t always the case.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
She could get nuclear launch codes from me without having to stick a finger in the butthole…I like that they made her less of a robot in last night’s episode
February 7th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
Alabama only got rid of Duron Carter because he refused to go to class (same as he did at OSU and, apparently JUCO). If Foster even attempts class, he’ll be fine.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:13 AM
Ummm…white walkers are a pretty integral part of Storm of Swords and of what I’ve read in Dance with Dragons so far (350 pages in)
February 7th, 2013 at 9:13 AM
You just described 90% of recruits, and that includes Georgias recruits as well. Borderline retarded? What a way to speak of someone.

Regarding RR Martin – he’s already confided in HBO as to his plans for the remainder of the SoIaF series; so if he were to croak today they could still finish his work (and someone could finish writing the books).
February 7th, 2013 at 9:14 AM
I really don’t think they are. They’re better, I agree, but let’s not forget that they damn near lost three games last year. Hell, UGA had 8 yards to go and they were playing the game with 13 less players on schollie. And Bama won’t have the luxury of having the best god damn OL I’ve ever seen in college next year. They’ll be loaded for sure, but they’re definitely beatable.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:15 AM
I would like to see some ranking of facilities, and how they judge them. I never hear Arkansas mentioned, but their shit is awesome, and they continually add on and build new stuff.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:15 AM
What’s your go to Barleywine? That’s something I’m not sure I’ve ever had.
IPAs >>> DIPAs >>>>>>>> Wheat or Porter (depending on the season) > a few hoppy Pale Ales
February 7th, 2013 at 9:15 AM
I’m sure, and I’m completely off base only seeing the show and none of the books. But still, despite the fact I started watching The Walking Dead, fuck zombies. Too much going on, IMO.

February 7th, 2013 at 9:17 AM
I believe that part of the story was written in the late 90s. Before the zombie craze came back into popular culture. I’ll give George a pass on that one. That being said, seeing a zombie horse in the season finale last year made my eyes perk.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:17 AM
Over under on times Husker has said this or posted it trying to make himself feel better – 30.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
Was he reviled because of the offense or because he didn’t win? Cooper was a square peg in a round hole at OSU, but he won (except for the last 2 games). Also, we’re not far removed from the Mike years (Dubose and Schula) at Alabama.
The entire state of Florida (UM, FSU and UF) is new money in football. But they’re like Apple to everybody elses IBM (ND is US Steel in this analogy).
February 7th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
The program with the second most BCS titles?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
It depends, as a lot of them are seasonal or aged in random barrels. Bigfoot from Sierra Nevada is a true standard-bearer. SO good. I am sitting on a vertical of bottles from 2006-2013. Probably keep that thing running until I hit 20 years. I’ve seen verticals of them that looked truly amazing.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
Yeah wait til this season…only gets more complicated.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
I’d move barleywines up tied with stouts myself. So Stouts = barleywine > Porter > IPA > Sours > DIPA
That’s for the cold months, of course. Once it gets warm, Porters, Stouts & barleywines go away for a few months.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
The zombies piss me off. It was a great show and you have dragons. When you add zombies it just is overkill. I’m just waiting for the vampires next to round it out.
Ummm…white walkers are a pretty integral part of Storm of Swords and of what I’ve read in Dance with Dragons so far (350 pages in)
They’re kind of the whole point of the story: that the powerful are so busy fucking each other over the Iron Throne that none of them are paying attention to what’s happening in the world around them.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:19 AM
ALL IN!!!
February 7th, 2013 at 9:19 AM
Doesn’t make me feel better so much as it pisses me off, actually. It is true, though. LSU had them beat, too. Texas A&M is a bit more of question mark, though. They were up 20-0 I think and if it weren’t for some seriously stupid play calling, Bama wins the game at the end. I have no clue what the line will be next year when Bama comes to College Station, but I’m taking Bama all fucking day. I bet Saban was watching Manzeil film at halftime in Miami.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:19 AM
Correcto. Not sure what HBO was supposed to do there. They’re absolutely crucial to the overall story.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:20 AM
This is what it all boils down to.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:20 AM
I bought these shoes last night, great decision, feet felt so much better at the gym this morning.
As for beers, I’m slowly losing my taste for IPAs
February 7th, 2013 at 9:20 AM
Yeah, Saban would just as soon cut your ass as look at you. He has huge upside, and that’s what Bama’s banking on, while the student-athlete coordinator will have to corral his butt in and make sure he’s towing the line.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:20 AM
All in all, not a bad day for USA. Jamaica tying Mexico in Mexico really helped them out. Plus Costa Rica and Panama tied, so we’re pretty much right back to where we started.

February 7th, 2013 at 9:22 AM
Probably, but tapping this sign on the way out the door each morning seems like a bit much.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:22 AM
Not enjoying them as much. Losing the taste for hoppier beers. Been drifting back toward brown ales and stouts/porters a lot more.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:23 AM
Holy shit. I didn’t know Mexico drew with Jamaica at home. That’s fucking huge. Though I’m not sure it matters, This US side is going to have to win every game they play on American soil if they want to advance. Their road issues aren’t going away.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:24 AM

February 7th, 2013 at 9:24 AM
Where do you live? It’s on shelves in NC and SC and pretty much everywhere else in the country…
a LOT more than I spend on my fine bourbon habit
I’ll buy the good local stuff, awesome seasonals, and then trade for the rest. 70% of my beer consumption is probably things that I cant get in my distro area. But $ wise? Hell, I’ll spend 20 bucks a bomber on a ba-stout without batting an eye. Usually I keep it to a reasonable level though.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:24 AM
I will take your unwanted IPAs plz
February 7th, 2013 at 9:24 AM
Get in line Dahl with almost every other other who had their books turned into a movie.
I’ve always said that the director’s job is to make the best movie possible and not make the book. My only issue is when you take the book and make something completely different (I’m looking at you, World War Z).
February 7th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
That crowd turned on Mexico really fast. At one point they even started ole-ing every completed pass by Jamaica.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
Understandable. So many of the newer breweries throw more hop than they need to in their beers. Almost going with the idea of why just add some hops, when you can add too much?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
Because that’s what I said. If UGA had a full squad that doesn’t mean they would have done anything differently. But the numbers are the numbers, and UGA has no one to blame but themselves.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
He looked like a deer in headlights almost immediately. He had no idea what he was getting into(like you referenced in an earlier comment about the pressures).
I knew it was over for him when he called the Ohio State game, “just another game” or something to that effect. He just didn’t get it.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
What are you replacing it with?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
Recruiting concerns
1. Convictions and arrests that were purged from the legal system due to some sweet lawyering.
2. Repeat drug issues
3. Dumb as rocks
4. Kids
February 7th, 2013 at 9:26 AM
What did you say to him?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:27 AM
Minnesota. Some showed up, but a very small amount (about three cases for the area I’m in). The stores I frequent are pissed at the rep about it too. I’m just hoping more shows up, or I may have to hop on the trading block again.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:27 AM
I don’t think I’ve said anything to him in years. Probably searches for himself, big fan of mocking his framed pictures tweets from back in the day though.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:27 AM
As I started drinking less, I will pay more for beer. Or occasionally my wife will see something (like the Sam Adams New World Belgian) and pick it up at the liquor store.
My 30th birthday is next Saturday, and I’m running a half-marathon on Sunday, so can only have one beer. You better believe it’s the most expensive I can find!
February 7th, 2013 at 9:28 AM
I wonder if anyone on here bought or knows anyone that bought some of that monk beer that was on sale. It was like $75 or something for a six-pack.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:28 AM
TBL doesn’t count?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:28 AM
There are some guys that are have 4-star or better talent and are worth the risk. Plenty of top schools went hard after Willie Williams and he was a certified head case. It wasn’t even debatable he was a train wreck.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:28 AM
Not Grant Wahl have something to do with that?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:28 AM
Apparently, you don’t detect any excess bitterness from hops at around 70-80 IBUs. Link.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:29 AM
I don’t run that but it wouldn’t shock me if he blocks people that follow it.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:29 AM
Schools like MICH demand that the coach totally buy in to their history. NEB is like this as well, and Callahan never got that (along with so much more). It’s part of the game when you’re a coach at that type of school. You can be a new money coach at Oregon or Boise or where ever, but at a traditional school you have to say the right things, even if you don’t agree with them.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:29 AM
Huh Grant Wahl has me blocked, first time I think I’ve been blocked by a journalist.
I got blocked by Lisk for a hot minute (by accident…or so he says…)

Holy shit. I didn’t know Mexico drew with Jamaica at home. That’s fucking huge. Though I’m not sure it matters, This US side is going to have to win every game they play on American soil if they want to advance. Their road issues aren’t going away.
A draw at Honduras isn’t the worst result given everything that happened. Problem is the dropping of points in Jamaica, in Guatemala and elsewhere. I can take draws at Honduras and Costa Rica (and the usual loss in the Azteca) IF you win elsewhere.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:29 AM
No, and I’m not sure if he blocked me, I blocked him though. Never followed or engaged him on there.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
Wow
February 7th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
Yeah, some guys mature differently as well. Some are just motivated by money. Look at Bryce Brown in the NFL. He was pretty awful in college considering the hype around his recruitment and at least looks like he could be a strong back-up in the NFL.

Nothing on the HuskerDawg sign? Swing and a miss for me.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
I have absolutely no problem with journalists banning douchebags who use twitter just to harass and abuse people. But some of the journalist have a really low threshold for criticism. I got banned by deitsch for simply asking him to comment on Jen Chang. I mean……..
February 7th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
Well, I rarely drink at bars. Kids and stuff pretty much limit me to drinking at home. I usually have a couple (2/3) drinks on Friday and Saturday night. Sometimes I do the same on Thursday. So typically I have a 6-pack of craft beer per week. That probably runs me between $9-12. Also, I sprinkle in some Goose Island brews from time to time, which is quite a bit cheaper.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
Exactly. Bama wanted Crowell badly and they knew, just as UGA did, that he was a total moron. Talent always gets a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) chance.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:31 AM
It’s on shelves in NC and SC and pretty much everywhere else in the country…
that might have something to do with having a sierra brewery in NC now.
check your local listings for Stone’s “Enjoy By” offerings. the latest one didn’t make it near to me in MA, but the 2.15.13 DIPA is getting fantastic reviews from those I know who’ve found it. they have new ones out fairly regularly too
February 7th, 2013 at 9:31 AM
I’m hating on all you beer hipters with verticals and whiskey barrel aged stouts and the next specialty trend.

Jesus that is incoherent. Duffy had me blocked, but once after I was involved in a conversation with his @ name, I was unblocked. Then blocked again. So I assume that’s what happened.

Interesting sidebar in the paper today how Urban would have loved to gotten involved with recruiting Trubisky from Mentor HS but some guys were eager to commit early and he couldn’t pull the trigger so they took the kid from Texas.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Yeah, the difference between RichRod’s entrance to the program and Tressel’s was night and day. Tressel instantly embraced the culture with his introduction at halftime of the basketball game by immediately calling out Michigan. The fans loved him immediately and ever since(being part of almost dragging down the program notwithstanding).
I think it’s okay in the locker room to put kids minds at “ease” and take the one game at a time approach and try not to put too much emphasis on one game, but at schools like these, you just don’t say it publicly.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Pretty much this for me as well. I don’t drink that much (if at all) during the week and rarely do while out eating because it’s so fucking expensive. But due to drinking less, i drink a better beer as opposed the old days of pounding Bud or Bud Light.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Wow I don’t think I could spent that much on a bomber when for $5 more I can buy a case of my session beer (Harpoon IPA). I think the most I spent on a bomber was probably closer to $10.
Speaking of bombers, last year for a few months Whole Foods was mistakenly selling Hop Stoopid bombers for $2.99. They realized their error eventually but I stocked up.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Westleven 12? A store here was one of the few to get it. I didn’t even give it a thought to go an buy any.

Always the case. I’ve only been blocked by one guy, a Portland Sea Dogs radio announcer, that I cared about or noticed, and he unblocked me and we hugged it out. Which is good because I need my JBJ/Bogaerts fix.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:35 AM
Urbz had his choice of QBs this year. Turisky and Malik Zaire really never got a sniff because JT Barrett was #1 on OSUs board.

February 7th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
I remember 10-15 years ago, when Ken Rosenthal was with TSN, I called him out through email(when you could actually get a response from these guys) on one of his articles because he posted some stats that were completely incorrect. I pointed it out and gave him the correct numbers and he emailed me back within the hour and essentially told me to STFU and to the professionals do their job.
I haven’t liked Rosenthal ever since. Smug bastard.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
True, true.
I miss living there so much. Getting craft beer in PA is prohibitively expensive.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
i lolled.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
Really? What’d you do to piss him off?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
I’d buy it all day long….but not at that price. Westvleteren 12 is an amazing beer; truly one of the best i’ve ever had. You can get it for around 3 bucks a bottle if you visit the abbey. Other than that, you gotta trade for it in the states.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
Sounds right. I could never pay that much for beer but certainly wouldn’t mind cracking a bottle just to see if it’s actually worth a crap.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
Deitsch blocked me for mocking him for his jihad against First Take. What’s weird is he reads TBL and saw a comment I made saying that him talking about the show is exactly what the show wants, and he found me on twitter thanking me for spelling his name correctly…and then he blocked me. Weird.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
The word “craft” isnt necessary. All beer is expensive as shit here.

How often do you think a kid who could develop into an NFL-caliber QB gets to a school expecting to start in year 2, loses a competition, and loses so much developmental time he never makes it.
The two examples are, what if Joe Flacco stayed at Pitt? Once he lost that job to Palko, he probably was a backup for life, and never sniffs the NFL without transferring, because he’d be too far behind on experience to make up for it.
The other is Matt Cassell (assuming you call him NFL-caliber), who never played, backed up two 1st rounders, but likely could have been a starter at many other schools, and still got an NFL shot eventually.
Is it a couple guys this happens to, or is it like 10 a year? Many college coaches are looking for the now and aren’t choosing the guys with the NFL future. And not all recruits are able to avoid a school with QB competition.

February 7th, 2013 at 9:40 AM
From my understanding though, Barrett is unlikely to ever be the starter(although it’s certainly possible) and the next class should bring in Braxton’s successor. That’s assuming(which I do) that Braxton stays all four years.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:41 AM

At least I have the word of someone that tried it. Probably the closest I’ll ever get.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
I’ve heard conflicting reports whether the formula has changed… is the beer still good? There’s an Old Chicago here now, so it matters.
Had a Lucky Bucket Certified Evil (a belgian dark beer) there, and it was very good.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
That’s an amazing deal. Love me some Hop Stoopid. I think bombers of it are $3.99 at my store. Pretty good bargain. I do my grocery shopping Sundays and every now and then will pick up one for some afternoon drinking.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:43 AM
Local brewer Untappd one. Said it was good, but for all the hype, you’d like that Christ Himself brewed it.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:43 AM

February 7th, 2013 at 9:43 AM
Ha! No fucking way that dude is leaving early. He has no NFL future at QB. Great (great) college player, but his accuracy is pure trash. He’s perfect for Herban’s system, though.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
KBS = the shittttttttttttttt
Worth noting is these bombers I am buying are usually in the 12-18% abv; so it’s a misleading price. Also, they taste amazing, and I’ll pony up to buy them over my session beers when they are released because of that (and the fact that they cellar well, so I don’t have to drink them quickly and I can also trade them)
Yea; thats a crazy price for hop stoopid. I usually get it for 4-5 bucks, and I LOVE that beer. Hop extract never tasted so good!
February 7th, 2013 at 9:44 AM

Damn, I think that’s what happened to me too. I called him out here for keeping quiet about Jen Chang. And then I sent him the tweet too. Next thing I realize, I’m blocked. At least you got a breakup note. He left me without even saying goodbye.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:45 AM
Interesting. There were a lot of Texas fans who wanted us to make a bigger run at him instead of Swoopes. If history is any indication….yikes.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
Supposedly formula hasn’t changed. Location where they brew it sure has hell has. And I’m really not a fan of supporting InBev.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
tom brady/drew henson comes to mind…
agreed…he’s not an NFL QB. his motion and release is way better than tebow’s but they’re about as accurate as each other (not good). but urban’s system gives him wide open WR’s and he’s a run-threat primarily…like you said, fits perfect for that.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:46 AM

February 7th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
Is Swoopes gonna be the real deal (finally) for Texas?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
at least you have the option of getting craft beer. in Arkansas the craft beer selection consist of Shiner and Carona.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:47 AM
The Philly metro area is a goldmine for local breweries (Victory, Yards, Riverhorse, Flying Fish).
And I agree with Mole – hate Corbett, hope that he finally privatizes the LCB & allows more accessable beer sales.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:47 AM
Troegs is fantastic, without question. But it costs me $40 for a case of Troegs and its brewed 10 minutes from my house. Its cheaper to buy Mad Elf in Maryland than at my local beer distributor.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:48 AM
Philly, I bought the Yards variety pack the other day. Pretty impressed with those selections.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:48 AM
InBev owns Kona? Noooooo.
Also, no mention of the Kona Coconut Brown? Fuck that.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:48 AM
There’s a rticle somewhere about what INBEV has done to it barands in Europe. Basically Beck’s, among others, is made with cheaper ingredients. IBEV has also stopped buying the hallertau (?) hops for Budweiser. They say it’s because they have a surplus, but if the past is any indication, Bud’s going to be cheapened, too.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
USA scheduled the Costa Rica game in Denver. In March. Can’t knock the hustle. You do whatever you have to do to qualify.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
His high school senior season was absolutely horrific. I AM wildly optimistic about next year’s qb recruit (Jerod Heard), though. His team just won the state 4A title.
Everyone is raving about the Katy running back (Adam Taylor) that Nebraska got. Could be a great one.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
So long as the barrel beer program at Goose Island doesn’t change, they can have my monies in some capacity. Granted, there are plenty of other offerings, but the Bourbon County Brand Stout stuff is the bees knees.
It’s really awesome. If I get some more in a trade one day I’ll hook you up. In the meantime, if you ever want to buy them you can check here periodically:

February 7th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
Yeah, when you start seeing what were once regional beers (at best) come across the country, good bet INBEV or MC bought a piece of them. Lienenkugel, for example from MC.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
Will anyone notice a difference? It’s not like Bud is exactly quality as it is now.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
LOL Jhonny Peralta. Those dirty Latino baseball players.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
I wasn’t implying that I thought it would be a good move for him to leave but these guys don’t always make the best decisions, especially when people are waving hypothetical money in front of them.
I wouldn’t completely give up on him as an NFL prospect though as he is still only entering his junior season and it seemed like he wasn’t coached at all his freshman year. At the very least, he is big enough to play QB, so if he can gain better accuracy, he could be a decent back-up in the league; especially as the league looks closer to moving towards read-option and spread type offenses.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
Russian River is one of my all time favorite breweries. You guys in Philly need to buy as many of them as you can reasonably afford. Also, you need to keep tabs on the Pliny the Younger release up there; it’s one of the best beers in the world. No joke.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
$3.99! It is $5.99 everywhere in my area. That is why $2.99 was such a steal.

It’ll probably be 70 degrees. Denver is not a cold weather city.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
I can’t wait for him. I was in Austin for the International Bowl this week and saw Newby play. He’s the highest rated NEB recruit (70th overall per Rivals) and the dude did not disappoint. He was super fast and will be perfect in NEB’s spread system.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:53 AM
As long as InBev stays the fuck away from all the Western NC beers. If they move the production for those the beers will be ruined.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:53 AM
Don’t even bother trying to get Deitsch to criticize someone who is with or ever worked for SI. It’s beyond ridiculous how biased he is when it comes to SI. Would be interesting to see what would happen if he ever left though.

Granted, San Jose is 4000ft so I seriously doubt it will have any impact on the Costa Ricans. If anything it would probably impact us more.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:54 AM
Yep, there’s a lot of remediation to be done on the site in the River Arts district as well as figuring out a traffic plan for the trucks that will contribute to a congested exit from downtown already.
On a related note, I have noticed “new” Sierra Nevada mustards being stocked in the grocery stores. Pale ale, etc. Not sure if they are new to the rest of US but new here.

KC Res, what is your opinion of Boulevard? they do offer a ton of it down here, I’ve just never thought it was all that great, but I haven’t tried a ton of their offerings. some of the stores I go to have 8-10 different varieties of it now.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:57 AM
InBev owns 32.5% of craft brewer’s alliance (Kona, Red Hook, Widemer, Goose Island). I’m not sure if they have the control to move/change the beers as much as they would with other brands.
However, if that part ownership doesn’t change the beer, but is what allows for distribution, it’s not totally a bad thing.

Would presume he’s referring to the elevation.
Granted, San Jose is 4000ft so I seriously doubt it will have any impact on the Costa Ricans. If anything it would probably impact us more.
The elevation thing for Denver is completely overrated. And you are right, the difference between 4000 and 5280 is minimal.
People associate Denver with skiing for good reason, but the mountain towns where people stay to ski are so much higher than Denver. And they are all more than a hour away from Denver. Some fun driving in a blizzard.

February 7th, 2013 at 9:59 AM

February 7th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Incredibly brewery. That’s actually Eastern NC though.
Western NC has one of the most unique hop growing climates in the country though.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Who is opening up first in Western NC, New Belgium or Sierra?
February 7th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Loved the city. Would live their in a heartbeat. I hit up Swifts Attic (good burger) Iron Workd BBQ (average, as Clown said, was the word I’d use). Lamberts was good and a cool spot. The Austin sports commission guys (who were hilarious) took us to a houston-based place called Loupe Tortilla that was actually pretty good. I was nervous as it was chainy as hell, but the fajitas were great. We wanted to hit up Salt Lick but didn’t have time. Same for Franklins. I’ll definitely be back, though.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
I thought it was a partial ownership for Kona, ETC. I’m pretty sure they bought Goose Island outright.

February 7th, 2013 at 10:02 AM
I read a quote from Tim Beck that said other than 3, 8 and 80 he’s going to let the defense tee off on players in spring ball. My first thought was that No. 8 needs to learn how to get hit and hold on to the ball.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:02 AM
Some really great beers there, but most are of the belgian style so think sours/wilds/and some stouts. I really like 3 Fonteiren, Cantillon, Fantome, De Struise, and a few others. You’d need to maximize the shipping box to make it worth your while, so be prepared to buy 150-200 bucks worth of stuff to make it worthwhile.
Duck Rabbit is eastern NC; small town near East Carolina University.
Lastly, I could drink nothing but Foothills, Olde Hickory, Duck Rabbit, and Natty Greens the rest of my life and be perfectly satisfied.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:02 AM
Would imagine Sierra, New Belgium isn’t starting construction until fall of this year, Sierra is supposed to be up and running early 2014.

February 7th, 2013 at 10:02 AM
His First Take jihad got extremely old and tiresome. Yea dude we get it, the show is a complete joke and mockery, but they rake in a ton of viewers and will never change unless you’re a ‘journalist’ on the lower end of the spectrum and call the most popular rookie qb in years a cornball brother.
Yea he blocked me when I tweeted to Stewart Mandel that Mandel and his crew are all a bunch of flunkies for their defense of Thamel and hipocrisy of chasing down the Honey Badger at all costs.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:03 AM

Denver is such a kickass town. The weather is great and the location is even better.
I asked this last week but can’t find the thread where it was answered. If I have one day to ski in Salt Lake City/Park City, which slope should I hit up?

Oh, you know. Hometown brewery. Got to support it. I’ve drank so much Pale Ale and Unfiltered Wheat that there is magical about it. There specialty beers are really good. The 80 Acre beer is good and will be a fantastic summer beer. Tank 7, Doublewide, it is all beer. I support Boulevard, but there are so many craft breweries now and so many options that everyone can find something to be happy with.
I remember back in the early to mid 90s when we’d go skiing in Colorado and come back with tons of craft beers because none were available in Kansas. And now there is a brewery in Hays, Kansas. God bless craft beer.

Sierra Nevada is still targeting late 2013. They have poured and started building. New Belgium is looking at 2015. Oscar Blues is already brewing in nearby Brevard.

I asked this last week but can’t find the thread where it was answered. If I have one day to ski in Salt Lake City/Park City
Ski at Park City. Awesome mountain.
I just got back from Breckenridge. That was fun. I pussed out on going up the Imperial lift.

Denver is such a kickass town. The weather is great and the location is even better.
I asked this last week but can’t find the thread where it was answered. If I have one day to ski in Salt Lake City/Park City, which slope should I hit up?
Denver is awesome. I will never understand why people think it is some frigid shithole. During the winter, it is quite often warmer than Kansas City.
I’ve only been to Deer Valley. If you only had one day to ski, I’d just ski at Park City so you don’t waste time commuting to the other places.

I love Breckenridge. Such a cool town.

From Thomsen at SI’s last email mailbag:

Breckenridge Vanilla Porter is hands down the worst beer I’ve ever had.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
The guy setting up the gig is trying to get Park City to put us up. If they don’t, the Salt Lake CVB will do it and we’ll have to commute from there. Either way I get a 100% free day of skiing, so I’m fucking pumped.

Yeah, my uncle lives in Denver and always tells me how great the weather is. It’s considered a sub-tropical climate I believe.
I’ve been trying to illuminate this for those East of the Mississippi that comment here for years. It will be almost 60 in Denver tomorrow.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
So fucking sweet.

Sounds great. Do the Walgreens in the loop sell beer? Would like to pick some up before getting on train.

Yesterday SVP and Russillo asked an ESPN recruiting guy who he thought was the best high school football player ever saw in person. He said Iverson.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
I interviewed a Denver CVB guy recently and he was laughing at how people view the city in the Northeast. They were aghast that he wanted to leave NYC and move to “some hick mountain town,” as they called it. If they only knew…

He was also a kickass soccer player I believe. Dude was just an all around freak talent.

I love Breckenridge. Such a cool town.
We always stay in Breck and hit Breck, A-Basin, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek. Keystone is a crowded shithole. Breck is awesome.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
I hit up beaver creek in the summer once. Had a blast hiking cool places (and I’m not a hiker) and playing disc golf down the mountain. We also saw a bear in downtown BC, so that was awesome.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
I always shop at Beaver Liquors when in town.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:22 AM
Besides shitty home brew, Sam Adams Imperial White for me.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
I have a shirt from that place.

Strong choice. Their White Christmas is also revolting. Hey let’s make a wheat beer but flavor it with nutmeg and cinnamon.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
doesn’t Denver have the most days of sunshine of any metro area in the US? yeah, sounds awful.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
eyeball falls out, causes mistrial
spent almost a year in england when i was 7/8 years old and went to school there. one teacher had a glass eye, and to prove a point about throwing shit in the coat area, he pops out the eye, saying he lost the eye because of some coatroom horseplay
February 7th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
That Goddamned holiday pack. I’ll always buy it, and then promptly bitch about two of the selections in it.

February 7th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
I truly believe the hardest decision I ever made was whether to move away from Denver ten years ago. still regret it sometimes.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Vez I saw your comment about Costa Rica. Wife won a trip for the two of us to stay in Playa Conchal for a week. Going in April. I have never heard a bad thing about vacationing there.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:34 AM
smallie, if you can take a couple days off the beach, head up to the mountains. only an hour drive at most
February 7th, 2013 at 10:43 AM
I actually really liked that beer.
