First Grader Hits Free Throw to Cancel School on Super Bowl Monday
All, High School Sports, Video February 7th. 2013, 1:38pm
Blake Harper is a first grader at Mater Dei School in Maryland. In this video he is shooting a free throw that will earn the entire school a day off on the Monday after the Super Bowl. A 7th and 8th grader have each missed a 3-pointer that would have done the same. All the pressure in the world was on Blake and he hit nothing but the bottom of the net. Then he gets mobbed by the other students. Pretty cool. [Bob's Blitz]

Kid’s going to suffocate under that dogpile
February 7th, 2013 at 1:48 PM
And we wonder why we’re 19th or whatever in education. What’s this–taking time out from school to hold an assembly to determine whether there will be less school?
February 7th, 2013 at 1:50 PM
The school should have immediately tested that kid for PEDs.
February 7th, 2013 at 1:50 PM
What a great idea. I bet the kids love the principle whom I’m guessing came up with the idea.
Are all my fellow New Englanders ready for this blizzard tomorrow?

Breesus = killjoy

At mai skul we werent loud 2 hve semblys. On count ov tha violance. (kiks rok)
February 7th, 2013 at 1:54 PM
That is pretty cool, but surely they were going to cancel school anyway right? Or just keep having people shoot until someone made it? It would be really shitty of them to have three people shoot and if they all missed say, oh well see you Monday.
Christ man

Based on the basic spelling and grammar skills demonstrated here, I’d bet you were educated in Louisiana public schools.
February 7th, 2013 at 1:54 PM
This still doesn’t explain who the fuck Nate is.
February 7th, 2013 at 1:55 PM
Oh, you get to stay at home with your hungover father? That’s great honey.

That would teach the kids a valuable lesson about ostracization.

fuck
sprints. he hammed it up and bobbled it a few times while we watched
February 7th, 2013 at 1:58 PM
I once won a game of horse at a basketball camp while all the other kids looked on. At that point, I knew I was clutch

SPeaking of schools … saw that Ray Lewis’s kid signed to play college ball. Wouldn’t it be ironic if Ray III majored in criminal justice?

// Where the fuck has Soused been lately?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:03 PM
Just another example of why our school systems are failing our kids. Oh, your team won a big game? WGAF? Now read this book and tell me about it.

has anyone with an iPhone 4 had problem with the phone connecting to a WiFi network? If so how did you fix it?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:05 PM
Buy a 5.

I’m retroactively upset about having to go to school the day after both Super Bowls XXXI and XXXII (needed the day off more after the second, spent that one in a mild fog, fuck John Elway)
February 7th, 2013 at 2:08 PM
If it was up to me, I’d move the Super Bowl to Saturday, pronto. I could give a fuck about tradition when I’m hungover at work Monday morning.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:08 PM
I was going to but now I’m going to hold out until the next one comes out in the fall
February 7th, 2013 at 2:09 PM
Private sector. Public schools couldn’t have done this without adding a day on the back-end.

On a newsworthy scale, I’d file this under “Dog bites man.”
February 7th, 2013 at 2:10 PM
Smart man.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:15 PM
Ive never had problems with the 4 but now it has trouble connecting to wifi and other random issues. It’s like Apple is trying to force me to upgrade
February 7th, 2013 at 2:20 PM
That sounds exactly like something they’d do.

Awesome.
Next question: Android or iPhone. I’m due.

my droid’s browser has begun to not work. did it once after a year of ownership, then it started up a couple weeks later. now it’s down again, for a week or so. twitter and facebook still work
just head to the store and upgrade or is there a fix i can do?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:25 PM
mmonsat what iOS version are you on?

There must be 10 or more different browsers you could load on that thing.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:27 PM
I’m an iPhone whore. Not MikeNYC about it, but I do love them.

Are you using the Chrome browser?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:31 PM
I’m not an apple whore either. My wife and kid each have a Mac and an iPhone. I’m a Windows user b/c I pretty much have to be. I have a pos android tablet for fun and reading so I’ll probably go Android.
Gonna get a roku this weekend. Bought a Mohu antenna – thinking about ditching DirectTV (at least until football starts again). I’m tired of paying a ton for shit I don’t use/watch.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:37 PM
I’m on 6.0

There’s this whole thing about DMSO as an ointment etc… but this is why reporters should consult someone before writing stupid shit. DMSO is an organic solvent. Basically like putting rubbing alcohol on yourself. I’m pretty sure it’s not FDA approved, but would hardly consider it as a PED or consider banning it.
The alleged use of deer-antler spray by professional athletes was the hot topic of Super Bowl week, but former defensive lineman Tony Casillas said it doesn’t compare to what players used during his playing career.
For one… DMSO is in no way “stronger” than IGF.
Also this:
All I heard was that a GM said he denied it, and then Lewis said he wasn’t going to talk about it, and he didn’t fail a test (that doesn’t look for IGF). Pretty sure that’s a tacit admission of guilt before it’s a strong denial.
Not to be that guy, but ESPN is fucking terrible, and these byline-less columns are the worst.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:42 PM
Upgrade to 6.1
February 7th, 2013 at 2:46 PM
That was a fairly common problem I think, 6.0 was full of bugs.
There was also a big issue with Motorola Atrix modems and the iPhone (so if you have Comcast or a few other internet providers, you’d be having an issue). Way to be Apple, design an operating system that doesn’t work with certain modems. It just works!
February 7th, 2013 at 2:52 PM
Re: DirectTV see if you can just suspend it until you need it again. That way when football season starts up you can just re-activate it and that way not have to sign up for the 2yr contract again.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:57 PM
Are you using the Chrome browser?
not sure. i myself did not switch whatever the search engine was that came with it
February 7th, 2013 at 2:59 PM
I was thinking it could be a software thing but it hasn’t been an issue until today. I will upgrade tonight though

thanks squawk. just downloaded bing and bam, i’m back on the web

I’ve had a iPhone for years, including the 5. Started playing with a Samsung Note 2 and sold that 5 in a week. I still like the style and design of the 5 but the hardware on the Note is pretty sweet.
