I don’t really like Lavarnway, never have. He’s made his rep largely on a couple good months. I really don’t know what Salty’s value is. To me, I’d think as a decent hitter with power, with pretty good defense at times, it should be high enough to get a return. I’d be fine with them keeping him and trading Lavarnway, or other way around, really, but I think Lavarnway’s ceiling is Salty’s present, with just a little worse defense and better plate discipline.

Either way, I think it’s Ross that is going nowhere.

Yep. Also, Chris Carpenter clearing waivers helped if he ever gets it going. I don’t think Stolmy or Fields or the hitters (Lin, Sands, DeJesus) have any chance to haunt them.

Stolmy is in his last option year, and had barely made it past high A. Enjoy that, Pirates. He’s the throwing version of Oscar Tejeda.

Sounds reasonable Mantis, though I don’t know the prospects. Seems fair considering CarGo is good, but has some severe road-home splits (.735 vs 1.003 OPS)

That’s their strength in the farm. The team needs to be rebuilt in a bad way.

You trade for young controlled guys that provide value like Mike Trout making the minimum this year. If Tulo is accurately/overpaid, or Gonzalez, even on a decent contract… that’s tough to trade your 2nd best guy for a couple of iffy prospects.

I like CarGo, and his contract. But who would trade what for him? Find me a trade that is worth it to the Rockies.

I don’t think the blockbuster it would take to make them so much better is out there. Who is giving up a sure future ace for Gonzalez?

The Rockies farm system has little to no upside pitching prospects of any kind (I’ve read the entire BA Top 30 for them), they have some OFs and a SS that could replace Tulo in a few years. That’s their strength in the farm. The team needs to be rebuilt in a bad way.

Farrell was brought in basically to fix Lester (Buch will be ok if he’s healthy, IMO). It will largely come down to pitching. They should be 85 win team I’d think, and it’d take a lot of bad luck to end up below 80 the next two years. They need front-line pitching, and it’s just not available
