Charissa Thompson is Dating ESPN College Basketball Analyst Jay Williams

Jay Williams and Charissa Thompson – the ESPN basketball analyst and the Sportsnation host – are the Worldwide Leader’s newest romance. The photo on the far right was tweeted by Thompson over the weekend from a Justin Timberlake performance in New Orleans, and a reader tweeted this to me Tuesday:

Charissa Thompson is dating Jay Williams. Holding hands on bourbon st., etc. Might want more before a post but it’s true.

Though nobody at ESPN would confirm whether or not these two were dating – the network wouldn’t when Michelle Beadle was dating then-hockey analyst Matthew Barnaby in 2011, either – two media sources who were at the Super Bowl confirmed Thompson and Williams have been together for several months.

Given how the network is positioning Thompson as the next Erin Andrews, and how Williams (the former Duke point guard and No. 1 draft pick) is only 31 and one of the ESPN’s top young college basketball analysts, that’s quite a power couple.

I have always thought that Thompson was a much better on-air talent than Erin Andrews. Maybe Big Ten bias. She was a star on the early days of that channel.

There’s still something offputting about someone seeing a celebrity couple out and about and thinking it was their duty to let a blog know about it

I wouldn’t have recognized them if they knocked me over. I only knew it was Cutler/Cavallari at dinner this weekend because someone told me.
She’s a nice looking lady as well, though.

Charissa is far better in a hosting role than EA (of whom I remain a great fan). SportsNation survived the loss of Beadle but – and this may be heresy among the blogger world – the show has gone downhill after the departure of Cowherd. Charissa looks very great, dresses hip and brings (sometimes too much) energy but the show lacks something. Beadle and Cowherd had great rapport and he and CT developed some as well. The show was regaining its footing. But now in LA, it’s all just too noisy with not enough substance.
