That is a stupid comparison. Gender issues is a broader subject than sexual orientation. Equal pay is a gender issue. Sexual relations is what we’re talking about. A man being uncomfortable disrobing in front of an openly gay man or a woman being uncomfortable disrobing in front of a lesbian isn’t about being anti gay, it is about sexual relations, how we all relate sexually.

In a world that has bastardized Dr. King’s and the rest of the civil right’s movement down to one small portion of his I Have A Dream speech, I’d expect that kind of comparison. There is a difference than the two.

I apologize for offending your paper thin multicultural sensibilities. But I deal in the real world, and in the real world homosexuals aren’t any different (other than the obvious preferences) than heterosexuals as it pertains to sexual desires and attitudes. Just as there are varying degrees of desires and attitudes from heteros, the same is true for homos. These attitudes and judgements are why most men and women would prefer to be seperate, not some sense of potential victimization. Acknowledging this about gays isn’t close minded. Ignoring this for the sake of some misguided sense of acceptance is.

It’s easy to say there is nothing to worry or be concerned about when it isn’t your ass (not literally) on the line. The idea that homosexuals are any different than heterosexuals in their ability to objectify those of the opposite, or in their case, same sex is naive.

No. You’re missing the difference, homophobia is – by definition – irrational in most cases. Unless this guy was gang raped by a bunch of flaming queens in a locker room, there is nothing for him to worry about. Being uncomfortable around people of a different sexual orientation only because of their sexual orientation is the definition of homophobia. It’s not necessarily a negative term though usually it is used as one, it just is what the person has. I’m afraid of spiders though there’s virtually no chance one will actually kill me. Women have very real reason to be uncomfortable disrobing in front of men, what with the thousands of years of social and legal domination.

If it’s ok for a woman to be uncomfortable undressing in front of a man, if it’s ok for men and women who happen to be on the same team, or members of the same gym to have seperate lockerooms, why would it be considered being a homophobe for a man to not want to be in the same lockerroom as a gay teammate?
