Caleb Moore in Critical Condition Following X Games Crash: “It’s almost certain he’s not going to make it.” [UPDATE: Moore has died.]
[UPDATE: Less than 24 hours after this post, Caleb Moore died.]
Caleb Moore remains in serious condition at a Colorado hospital. Moore crashed his snowmobile at the Winter X Games Friday night. He walked away from the crash, but later had emergency heart surgery when doctors found internal bleeding. Now, they are fearing for his life. From the Denver Post:
“Caleb is not doing good at all,” Caleb’s grandfather Charles Moore told The Denver Post Monday afternoon. “The prognosis is not good at all. It’s almost certain he’s not going to make it.”
“Caleb is in critical condition and is being closely monitored,” family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson said Monday evening. “The Moores want to express their gratitude to all of Caleb’s fans, friends and family for their strong support and ask for continued prayers in the coming days. The family will not be making any other public statements for the time being. Thank you for respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
There are also complications with Moore’s brain. This weekend Moore’s mother said that he suffered his 11th concussion in the accident.

Holy shit.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:48 PM
So we should ban snowmobiles, right?
January 30th, 2013 at 1:50 PM
Right. Dude is flipping snowmobiles for pennies, but we’re going to quit playing football because its too dangerous.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:50 PM
So we should ban snowmobiles, right?
You could certainly make a case for banning the competition that uses snowmobiles to launch someone 150 in the air.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:51 PM
Not a lot of margin for error in extreme sports. Having said that, I’m surprised more people haven’t died.

No, they’ll quit playing football when it gets too expensive for high schools to insure players
January 30th, 2013 at 1:51 PM
I know that comment was made to be snarky, but after watching this guy kill himself, and the other snowmobile that broke loose and headed into the crowd, the X Games might do well to review the inclusion of the snowmobiling events as part of their lineup.
If you want to ride a snowmobile, go find a nice trail somewhere and enjoy the scenery.

Nah. King Obama has more important things in his sights.
BTW–helluva sport, those XGames.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:53 PM
Not nearly as dangerous as some forms of racing. Ban those too?

11 fucking best drama nominations. All in a row. Only won once…but 11!! nominations.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:12 PM
I thought about going that route since trivia sometimes goes there, but the show ran for like 18 years. They must have snuck in some nominations.

Dick Wolf knows drama.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:14 PM
The question was which of the following shows has the most best drama nominations:
West Wing
The Sopranos
Law and Order
NYPD Blue
ER

free country so let people do what they want. However, ESPN should be liable for promoting this sport and encouraging kids to kill themselves just as Philip Morris is responsible for marketing cigarettes, right? You can choose to smoke, but gov. told big tobacco to stop telling people it was sexy. ESPN is selling the same way PM did. Sue those MFers.

law and order: buffalo bills
January 30th, 2013 at 2:17 PM
I went with The West Wing because I knew it racked them up. They were tied for 2nd with ER at 7. Sopranos and NYPD Blue had 6.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:18 PM
Is someone talking shit about Law & Order? Jack McCoy don’t stand for that shit.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:19 PM
No one’s banning football…they’re just eventually going to go after the NFL/NCAA for sitting on the concussion data for 20 years.
Also, there’s a bit of a difference between individual sports and sanctioned team sports…plus the whole # of people participating (don’t know of many snowmobilers).
Another thing…how the hell did that snowmobile get its throttle stuck? Don’t they have deadman switches on those things to prevent that fuck up from happening? If not…that’s a major fuck up on the part of the X Games not to mandate it.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:19 PM
I would have gone with The West Wing as well. That show won Best Drama 4-5 years in a row I believe.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:20 PM
I bet it was Fake Watts Dantzler.

January 30th, 2013 at 2:20 PM
I would have gone with The West Wing as well. That show won Best Drama 4-5 years in a row I believe.
And then Aaron Sorkin left and it immediately wasn’t as good anymore.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:21 PM
Maybe these guys keep doing this because they are getting paid millions of dollars. I doubt it though. I’m sure Tony Hawk and Shaun White are making lot of money. But I’m guessing there’s not much money for other middle of the road athletes.

Agreed. The first few seasons were excellent. They start to fall off a little after Angie Harmon left in the late 90s.

Is that what happened? The first 4 seasons were great, 5th was pretty good, but I quit into the 6th. It won best drama it’s first 4 years on the air, just as Mad Men did.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:30 PM
I still thoroughly enjoyed the Law and Orders with Jeremy Sisto and Anthony Anderson. Why NBC decided to cancel the original series and start up that LA Law and Order is beyond me.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:31 PM
no way. I’m a big fan of all the seasons. there was no fall off for me.

Yep. Sorkin left the show entirely after season 3 or 4. Can’t recall why. Perhaps he’s as an insufferable dickbag in real life as he is a good writer….from what I’ve heard.

no way. I’m a big fan of all the seasons. there was no fall off for me.
It never got bad, but after Stephen Hill left and Dianne Westin and then Fred Thompson became the DA every episode felt like it was trying to say something profound and every case was this landmark case. I liked the earlier seasons when it was usually just someone got murdered and they eventually found out that it was his wife. No profundity, just Sam Waterston, Stephen Hill, and Jill Hennessy sitting in an office drinking whiskey and congratulating themselves at the end of the episode.

I read somewhere that he took full credit for the Christmas episode in season 1 (the homeless Korean war vet dies of exposure near the mall) even though the show credits list him and another writer. The other writer called bullshit and said that the story was based on his father who was, for a time, a homeless Korean war vet. Sorkin then backtracked by claiming that the whole thing was a joke.
That’s pretty dickbaggish.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:41 PM
Once the old dude died. Ormman? Law and Order is some good tv overall though. It has fallen off a bit as they do some headline-grab themed shows which are turrible.

No you don’t have to be. Anytime they raise a political issue the show’s writers, especially in the early seasons, did a pretty decent job of explaining both sides of the issue, before of course picking the side that Hollywood liberals would typically espouse.

I got called out by Rondoman for saying a killswitch wouldn’t do much good if you’re not on the bike. You can’t have an 8 foot cord (which was suggested) running from your wrist or vest when you are either flipping with the snowmobile in the air or flipping off of the snowmobile in the air. Another suggestion brought up, having the engine shut off if weight isn’t being pushed down on the handlebars, wouldn’t work because if you’re in the air and doing flips weight is not going to be pushed on the bike.
