Big 12 and ACC Might Become “Friends with Benefits”

The Big 12 could decapitate the ACC in realignment. Instead, the conferences may try symbiosis, forming a relationship Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby termed “friends with benefits.”

It’s not clear what this relationship will involve. A football scheduling relationship with 10 vs. 14 (possibly 15 if ND steps in) would be wonky. It also would not help the Big 12′s strength of schedule. A joint network might not be feasible. Even if it was, what would the point be? A gentlemen’s agreement not to poach provides little security. The primary danger for the ACC comes from Big Ten and ACC expansion, not from the Big 12. Unless the “benefits” help make up the gross TV revenue disparity, that’s still a problem.

Nothing may come of this, though it is encouraging to see conferences finally, sort of… recognize they are in business with one another.

The ACC already had a “friends with benefits” agreement with Notre Dame, but it turned out to be a hoax.

Confused.
If Maryland wins their case re: the buyout fee, it’s going to be the Big 12 that kills the ACC because FSU and Clemson will be first gone.

It was more that the players thought they could show up go and just go throw the motions and get a blow out win. Didn’t know App State would punch them in the mouth. embarrassing loss and even more of an embarrassment that Michigan will play them again.

They would have literally had to smoke before running out onto the field pre-kickoff for it to last past the third quarter. Now, were they all high the night before? That’s definitely a possibility.

No it can’t. Nobody wants to go play in that backwoods conference. If their members want to keep sucking Texas off by letting them keep the monetarily unfair Longhorn Network that’s certainly their prerogative but I don’t think any new members are going to want to.
