Randy Moss Says He is the Greatest Receiver of All-Time, and He is Right
Randy Moss said he was the greatest receiver of all-time today at Super Bowl Media Day, which will be no worse than the 123rd most ridiculous thing to come out of Media Day. I know, I know, it sounds ridiculous. I did declare Jerry Rice the greatest receiver of all-time, but that was said in the heat of the moment, not after the time for proper measured reflection that is Super Bowl week.
So let’s make the case for Randy over Jerry.
We’ll start here, as Randy Moss has led his team, the San Francisco 49ers, to a Super Bowl at age 35 despite being saddled with a quarterback covered in tattoos. Did Jerry Rice ever do that at age 35? No.
Randy Moss at age 35: 28 catches, 434 yards, 3 touchdowns
Jerry Rice at age 35: 7 catches, 78 yards, 1 touchdown
That’s what I call domination. I’ll just stop there before I have to think of something else, like percentage of Super Bowls reached as a 49er, or times not winning Dancing With the Stars, and just declare this case closed.

Lisk writes when he wants to write.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Lisk doing his best JMac impression
January 29th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Ballz would like to know what kind of pizza you want, he’s on the way to your house.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:44 PM
In 2 games?
January 29th, 2013 at 4:45 PM
There was a 4-5 year period where no other opposing player scared me as much as Randy Moss. Those one handed catches were insane.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:45 PM
Just waiting for some random people to sign up to yell at Lisk without comprehending what Lisk was doing here.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:46 PM
Handled with the proper level of dismissiveness. Well done
January 29th, 2013 at 4:47 PM
Lol.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:48 PM
Did Rice ever play with a tatto’d QB?
January 29th, 2013 at 4:48 PM
jck, do you still owe watsonian 650 bucks? Couldn’t you send him some new sweet sweaters?

Can you imagine in what high regard Moss and Owens would be held if they weren’t huge assholes? What kind of numbers would Moss have put up if he tried half the time?
January 29th, 2013 at 4:50 PM
Check got lost in the mail I think. He’s demanding another.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:50 PM
Moss also has the better catch phrase and end zone dance.

Baller. And, shot-caller.

Speaking of ridonkulous things said during Super Bowl week …
Randy Moss “led” the Niners to this Super Bowl the same way Troy Brown “led” the Pats to the 2008 Super Bowl — that is, they actually followed.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:52 PM
If he tried all the time, his statement would likely be true.

January 29th, 2013 at 4:53 PM
Moss deserves points for making half the league waste draft picks on big slow cornerbacks for several years
January 29th, 2013 at 4:53 PM
AP – how good is that Jarius Byrd guy? How’d the Bills let that guy become a Free Agent? Is he a UFA?
January 29th, 2013 at 4:54 PM
Take his career numbers, apply the Randy Ratio and proceed from there.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:55 PM
I already have quite a few nice sweaters. But thanks for your concern.
January 29th, 2013 at 4:56 PM
Antuan Edwards, we hardly knew yee
Maybe it’s just because I hate that fumbling fuck Jerry Rice but I don’t think it’s ridiculous to suggest Moss being the best ever if you’re looking just at peak value
January 29th, 2013 at 4:58 PM
Scripty, Jairus Byrd is very very good. Bills should really re-sign him but not sure they’ll be able to afford him. He’s a quality safety who is a definite ballhawk. He’ll be snatched up quickly
January 29th, 2013 at 4:58 PM
maybe Steve Young had a tramp stamp, or Hasslebeck
January 29th, 2013 at 4:59 PM
Moss is the most talented receiver of all time.
Rice just outworked him. By a lot.
January 29th, 2013 at 5:01 PM
Well done, Lisk. Well done.
January 29th, 2013 at 5:01 PM
I disagree…you should compare their Oakland Raider stats (the team for which both will be remembered):
Rice: 243/3286/18
Moss: 102/1558/11
Rice >> Moss
January 29th, 2013 at 5:01 PM
someone gets it.
January 29th, 2013 at 5:03 PM
I already have quite a few nice sweaters. But thanks for your concern.
the “sweater” he sent was a merkin for your wife. Which is not cool.
January 29th, 2013 at 5:03 PM
Calvin Johnson? Not sure, but they’re close
January 29th, 2013 at 5:12 PM
While we are at it, Ochocinco > Rice
January 29th, 2013 at 5:15 PM
Moss may have been a bit faster in his prime. But that’s about it.
January 29th, 2013 at 5:24 PM
A merkin for the muff.
Muffley Merkin was the president in Dr. Strangelove.
What a pussy.
January 29th, 2013 at 5:26 PM
A bit? And few that I’ve seen were able to adjust to the ball and make difficult catches look like nothing quite like Moss…Calvin’s good, but come on now
January 29th, 2013 at 5:30 PM
Muffley Merkin was the president in Dr. Strangelove.
I think it was Merkin Muffley. But otherwise dead on. Peter Sellers was also set to play Major Kong. But, depending on who you ask, he either had too much trouble mastering the southern accent or he hurt his arm in rehearsal and so Kubrick decided to take a little off of Sellers’ workload.
January 29th, 2013 at 5:57 PM
Dude, Lisk, Moss only played 2 games in 1997 (when he was 35) due to injury.
Come on man, get your shit together. I think Randy is probably the most dominant receiver of all time, but there is a reason he doesn’t have the stats. He’s not a true winner and professional.
He did get screwed with some of his QBs he’s had but the number discrepancy is all due to that.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:09 PM
Randy Moss was also pretty good at pickup b-ball.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:18 PM
Nicely done, Lisk.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:21 PM
How many people completely missed the point. put tarheel down for 1.
Sorry Lisk, I don’t think the internet ‘gets’ you. The “Moss led the 49ers” to me was the point you realize it’s obviously a joke.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:24 PM
This
Followed by this
Was awesome. Especially because I’m having a hard time imagining how Moss was 35 in 1997 and managed to make an NFL roster in 2012/2013
January 29th, 2013 at 6:25 PM
Jerry Rice led the league in TDs for 5 of 6 years early in his career, 15, 22, (9), 17, 13, 14.
What happened in the middle? Was there a steroid shortage in 1988?
January 29th, 2013 at 6:27 PM
Because, as is the entire point of Lisk’s article, he’s the greatest receiver of all time, dumbass.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:27 PM
I think this is Jmac writing as Lisk to keep the hounds at bay.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:33 PM
i think Lisk was trolling Ballz, but Ballz read this and had an aneurysm
January 29th, 2013 at 6:36 PM
Don’t worry Joe, I don’t think it’ll be any of your concern.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:38 PM
Moss v TO is a closer argument than Moss v Rice
January 29th, 2013 at 6:40 PM
Moss vs. TO needs to take into account basketball skills.
Larry >>>> either.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:42 PM
Lisk just fishing for pageviews. I’ll bite. Dumbest comparison ever.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:44 PM
Me, just now:
“Damn, who had more than Rice’s 122 receptions in ’95? *Click* Herman Moore?
January 29th, 2013 at 6:47 PM
Damn, though. Rice had 6,869 yards and
January 29th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
Moss also complained about being used as a decoy (responding to a question). For all the talk of how smart a player he is, he should understand he would get the ball if he got open
January 29th, 2013 at 6:53 PM
*Screwup*
Damn, though. Rice had 6,869 yards and 45 TD’s after his ’97 missed season. That’s better than the career numbers of Ahmad Rashad, Dwight Clark, and Cris Collinsworth. Just those numbers would put Rice at #123 overall in career receiving yards.
January 29th, 2013 at 6:55 PM
Okay, we’ll mark you down under “missed the point”
Herman Moore was a beast. He and Sterling Sharpe dominated that division, and both ended had their careers early due to injury. He, Perriman and Morton were some good weapons, and got Barry a lot of yardage (or vice versa, depending on your viewpoint).
January 29th, 2013 at 6:56 PM
I agree, remove Lynn Swann from the Hall of Fame.
January 29th, 2013 at 7:05 PM
Lisk writes when he wants to write.
Lisk’s joke wasn’t the only one missed in this post. Solid work, weeze. Straight pageviews, homey
January 29th, 2013 at 8:02 PM
Moss going for his Gary Payton Ring.
January 29th, 2013 at 8:08 PM
And its not even close. Calvin is great to watch, but against a Prime Moss? C’mon.
January 29th, 2013 at 8:31 PM
Calvin is good, but not great. Moss was great. Calvin could still get there though.
Randy was great from day one.
/Nobody even compares to Rice.
//enjoys a trolling Lisk.
January 29th, 2013 at 8:43 PM
Moss is the greatest deep threat the league has ever seen, but his lack of physicality puts him on par with Johnson overall
Apparently you haven’t watched football the last two seasons
January 29th, 2013 at 11:51 PM
Sorry I missed this post. I was on the road. It would have been fun. The worst thing about Moss taking out of his ass like this is now a lot of smart people are saying Moss was “more talented” than Jerry Rice. Which, of course, is idiotic.
