First of all, Ed Lee is a corporatist and is despised by most proper San Francisco residents. He is bought and paid for by the tech companies that are literally killing this city. You probably think I’m exaggerating, but there are private buses that shuttle these automatons to the Valley everyday. It’s like something out of a sci-fi novel. NyMag actually did a piece on this. Check it out.

So why are people rioting? Putting aside the drunks and anarchists, people are rioting because technology has allowed the capitalists to eliminate jobs that used to be occupied by people who didn’t graduate from high school. The price that these people pay for their mansions and Ferraris is that increasingly they will have to deal with a large population of young, relatively uneducated males (thanks to bleeding our education system dry), that have nothing to do. A football game? Good excuse to riot.
