Urban Meyer Has Been Hounding Oregon Commits Since Chip Kelly Left
Urban Meyer is no gentleman, especially when he smells blood. Last year, the Ohio State coach raided Penn State’s class amidst catastrophe. This year, he’s gunning for Oregon in the wake of Chip Kelly’s departure. As soon as the news was announced, Meyer had minions in California unsettling Oregon commits.
Dontre Wilson, a 5-foot-10, 174-pound running back from Texas, committed to Oregon last spring. He now plans to visit Columbus this weekend. Meanwhile, Ohio State celebrated Kelly’s NFL announcement by rushing Buckeyes offensive coordinator Tom Herman to San Diego to visit four-star wide receiver Darren Carrington Jr., another UO recruit. Also in San Diego, Ohio State offered two more critical Oregon commitments, twin basketball/football stars Tyree and Tyrell Robinson, scholarships after the Eagles-Kelly business went public.
For those keeping score, that is every single four-star Oregon commit from outside the state of Oregon. Mark Helfrich’s staff, in response, is reportedly traveling as a seven-man unit termed “the Magnificent Seven” to shore up commitments and land recruits before Signing Day.

must be a three star if his Mackness hasn’t locked him up.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
Urbz doin’ work. He may get the kid from Texas, but the California twins are staying in Cali.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
STOP THE PRESSES!!!! Urban Meyer is doing the same thing every other college coach does.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
So…is this practice kosher or not?
As for Dontre Wilson, I heard on a Longhorn podcast this morning that OSU was looking to offer him as a slot receiver, since they’ve already promised their RB recruit that he’d be the only one in the class.
Texas would love Wilson, but apparently he has no interest.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
Is Ohio State the only one going after those recruits?
I doubt it.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good, good.
/rubs hands together
January 25th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
If this douche ever wins the National Championship at Ohio State there is no justice in the universe.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
Also, I really wish college football had an early signing period.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
Why the hell would anyone give up Oregon, Nike money, and the drugs, for a city who’s highlight is a zoo? Idiots.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
All’s fair until they sign their name on the LOI.
Elliot (from Missorah) is now taking an official visit to Mizzou. Urbz should be able to keep him, tho.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
whose*
January 25th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
Not criticizing. Just have to sit back and admire what a calculating bastard he is.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
“The game is the game.”
– Urban Meyer
January 25th, 2013 at 10:17 AM
Agree, but I’m inferring that Duffy may not think so.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:17 AM
considering the moral cesspool college football is, wouldnt it be pretty much the most just ending you can get? it’s not like nick saban is exactly a bastion of sportsmanship.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
i figure this one tops 100 comments, easy.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
Urban Meyer. Flexer. Wheelbarrow thief. American.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
I’m guessing he told these recruits that Jesus told him they should be playing in Ohio?
January 25th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
I see nothing wrong with this. Go get the best talent available and if you screw over a potential competitor, even better.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
Yeah but Nick Saban is a single-minded asshole. You ever see him reading letters from his family in a press conference?
Urban Meyer is the worst because he’s an asshole that is so self-important he thinks people care about his acid reflux.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
it’s been kinda creepy seeing the kids leaving OSU recently…not surprising that two meh LB and OLman “left” considering urban’s got those positions on his radar.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:20 AM
Oregon should just be happy they have recruits worth stealing.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:22 AM
The final tally is very Husker-dependent.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
He’s generally good for at least 20%

Nada will come in and throw 10 unfunny comments at the end. So really its a fight to 90.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
Or a golf angle.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
I figure he has to pour KFC gravy on everything
January 25th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
Those Oregon kids would be pissed (and rightfully so) if they’d have signed early, then have Kelly leave.
/Sure NCAA, kids sign to the school, not the coach
January 25th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
Speaking of recruiting though, I am really interested to see where Reuben Foster and his giant Auburn tattoo end up.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
disagree that urban meyer is the worst.
/points at his resume
January 25th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
Everyone back to the roundup.

only if every comment is as insightful as this one.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:28 AM
Uh-oh, Duffy is already preparing his end of college football tradition posts in preparation.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:29 AM
speaking of…the michigan helmet thing was COMPLETELY overblown. could anyone even tell a difference on TV?
January 25th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Breaking!
January 25th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
It is, when OSU was going through its post-tressel fall, out Michigan was able to steal a 5* OL recruit and tried to get a 5* RB recruit
January 25th, 2013 at 10:31 AM
That gatorade looks very yellow. I believe its piss.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:31 AM
speaking of…the michigan helmet thing was COMPLETELY overblown. could anyone even tell a difference on TV?
there were actually 2 changes to the helmets. Metallic Maize and Matte Navy. but the metallic matte has been used all year.
/the more ya know
January 25th, 2013 at 10:31 AM
Or a golf angle.
Tiger 68 on the South Course. Could be a great tourney this weekend.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:32 AM
please, how many times has Michigan fucked with their uniforms since the Hokester has been in charge
January 25th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
Kyle Kalis won’t win one game against OSU.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
Out of that moral cesspool there is a beacon of light that shines in the form of Gary Andersen. An American hero if there ever was one.
/my kingdom for a victory against Ohio State in 2013.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
Yup. And he blew it down the stretch. Couple of missed par putts and a par on the par-5 18th after he had a short wedge that he nuked into the back bunker. The swing looked fantastic, though.
Also, made this point on twitter: Is there anything worse as far as fan behavior goes, than golf fans who talk to player’s balls?
January 25th, 2013 at 10:35 AM
Michigan is putting together a pretty awesome oline class, while OSU is doing the same on the dline. The trench battles over the next few years should be pretty great.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:37 AM
Only if College Gameday shows up 2 or 3 times.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:38 AM
Has Husker been back since the Falcons choked away the NFC Championship?
/just curious
//concerned
January 25th, 2013 at 10:38 AM
Was hard to tell since the uniforms were so blinding.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:38 AM
racist soccer fan behavior in europe. that dude who killed yall’s trees.
so…yes. much worse.

The shouters, the cigar smokers, the people cheering when guys miss putts at Ryder Cups
January 25th, 2013 at 10:40 AM
i liked em.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:42 AM
oh fuck that…that’s completely fine. i just wish ian poulter would actually miss a putt in the ryder cup so i could cheer the shit out of him.

TylerDuffy.com
I like the new branding focus with the gravator update et al. Changing the name here too?
January 25th, 2013 at 10:43 AM
Being a Tennessee guy, I am no fan of Saban. He at least though doesnt pretend to be something he is not. “I want to spend time with my family…” Blah, Blah, Blah.
He is not even that good of a coach. Struck gold with Tebow and then Saban ran his out right out of the league once Meyer couldnt win without him.
He’s lucky and he’s garbage. Fuck him.
/Its only 9:42 AM here, swear I havent been drinking yet.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:43 AM
Wait, when I go to the page it says TyDuffy though as does the email still? Some other asshole squatting on tyduffy.com?
January 25th, 2013 at 10:43 AM
Vincent Smith is still looking for his Michigan helmet.
/Clowney’d
January 25th, 2013 at 10:44 AM
Michigan blew it when they put that stupid maize piping on the away jersey.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:45 AM
I’d say Tommy Aaron said it best in Who’s Your Caddy, “Keep your mouth off my ball”
January 25th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
Well, yeah. I guess I should’ve said more annoying? Like the racists and the Updykes are just flat out awful. But on the annoying scale, I cannot stand it when Tiger hits a fade and everyone behind him starts shouting at the ball to fade. I’d rather have someone puff cigar smoke in my face and shout “mashed potatoes.”
The other guy at the golf tourney that annoys me is the one that talks about what he’d hit, then practices his swing while watching the pro line up his shot. But you never see or hear that guy on the TV.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
In no way is that on Hoke. It’s the former pizza salesman that’s now the AD.
//Absolutely dreading the day we have a Wolverine mascot running around on the sidelines.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
This theory only pans out if you ignore his success at Bowling Green and Utah.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:47 AM
Exactly.
January 25th, 2013 at 10:50 AM
The man used to coach under Urb, hopefully some of that dirty pool made an imprint on him
January 25th, 2013 at 10:52 AM
was he not the AD When Lloyd was there?
January 25th, 2013 at 10:54 AM
He is not even that good of a coach

January 25th, 2013 at 10:59 AM
He’s new-ish. Came in, had RichRod for a year, fired him and hired Hoke.
January 25th, 2013 at 11:05 AM
wow, forgot all about the RR era
January 25th, 2013 at 11:06 AM
I wish I could….
January 25th, 2013 at 11:09 AM
Bowling Green and Utah? Hmmm. Yeah, I am going to choose to ignore that. As should you.
January 25th, 2013 at 11:53 AM
It’s the first Friday after a holiday. No one is working anyway.
January 25th, 2013 at 11:55 AM
There’s a pretty good chance that Saban’s family doesn’t speak to him, let alone write him a letter.
/waits for Duffy to come up with another post that criticizes Urban and OSU for doing exactly what every other big time program does.
//won’t have to wait long
January 25th, 2013 at 12:02 PM
Queefer?
January 25th, 2013 at 12:06 PM
There’s a great story about Saban when he was home in W.Va. for Christmas while head coach at Michigan State. He found out the grandma of a player he was recruiting lived nearby. Dude essentially abandoned his family on Christmas Eve, went to grandma’s house and sat up all night with her drinking Old Crow or something. Supposedly his wife was beyond furious.
January 25th, 2013 at 12:09 PM
That’s the Plaxico story.
January 25th, 2013 at 12:11 PM
Would have struck gold again if Cammy Cam wasn’t a theif. And a dumb one at that.
January 25th, 2013 at 12:22 PM
Don’t play into his hands Nada, well done
I support it. Escape those annoying dullards for some drinking, had to spend the next day with them anyway
Also “struck gold” with many quality NFL players

Hell, Phil Fulmer could have won a Natty with those Florida teams with Tebow.
Actually, that isnt true. Phil would have moved Tebow to Strong Safety. At least then Tebow would maybe have a chance to be on a roster somewhere next year.
January 25th, 2013 at 1:56 PM
Goddamnit Queefer, show yourself.
