yeah, I know nothing about it so maybe it was recently. it didn’t used to be on there though.

the guy I work with told me a story about the membership there. apparently Stephens is in charge of the membership dues, and who gets in and who doesn’t, there are no set fees, just whatever he wants to charge. so one of the new members asks an existing member what he paid to get in, and the new member found out it was less than what he was paying, so he went to Stephens to say something about it. Stephens cut him a check for what he paid and told him to leave, that he wasn’t welcome anymore.

I say it isn’t on google earth and then I go and look and sure enough it is.

Yeah he’s an longtime ANGC member too. Yeah he developed a relationsip with Jackson and had him run the caddie program. Jackson is an educated person though and a business professional in his own right.

You guys hear of the Alotian in Arkansas? A few of my friends got to go up there and play it recently. Google it.

a guy I work with’s brother is a caddy there. it’s exclusive as shit, started by a guy out of Little Rock named Warren Stephens, who is CEO of a giant investment bank. you can try to google it, but I would guess there isn’t much about there about it, that is how Stephens wants it. I’m not sure how they do it, but it isn’t even available on google earth. It’s listed in the Top 10 or 15 of golf digests top courses. I think they are playing the Western Amateur there this year, which would be the first time it’s open to the public.

Alotian is pretty awesome from what I’ve heard – is that public or private? IIRC Carl Jackson, the caddie for Ben Crenshaw at the Masters, started the caddie program there. I think a member of Augusta had that built?

It’s private. I think a former member of August wanted to build his own dream course that he could do whatever he wanted to, or something like that, and that’s how the course came about.

In the late 70′s, Oakmount’s membership was seeing it’s old guard retire and they had to decide how to treat the course. They didn’t want to start making it easy. So they decided to go out and tell their members they’d be hiring some young college guys at their day jobs. They then went and recruited good young college golfers graduating, and that kept their membership capable with these new junior members.

They have a cigar box where members put $5 each round and if they can par their 4 really tough par 4′s, you get what’s in the box. Payout is routinely $600-$2000. They get off on being really tough.

It’s mainly how there’s hard Allegheny clay righr below the turf that keeps the grens hard all the time. The grens were built early 20th century and have a 9 strain hybrid that somehow lets it be cut low and doesnt die in the summer heat. They haven’t been able to replicate it elsewhere, yet.

Stayed in a house on 18 last year before our round (which was fucking ridiculous) and the member who set up the outing up pretty much verified all of this.

On another note, one guy in our group was stupid enough to take his cell phone out in the clubhouse to check texts. Our group was given one warning that any more cell phone use would result in them taking our phones until our round was complete and we were ready to leave. The place is fucking hardcore.

Harris English is on the leaderboard again. He’s sounds and looks first team all Silver Spoon but I really like his game. Presently he’s like a young American Lee Westwood.

I watched him play my course when he tied for second at our Nationwide/Web.com event two years ago. Dude hits it a freaking ton. That was also right after he talked about how low the Nationwide guys go on a weekly basis and that there were a handful of them that could fill up the PGA leaderboards. He caught hell for it but he wasn’t far off.

Didn’t know that. In fact, it sounds so ridiculous that I’m skeptical. If true, what kind of masochist jackass would want that as their home course? I’m all for tough, but 110 on the regular is no fun

obviously, im skeptical too, but USGA guys say they dont have to do too many tweaks to make it US Open worthy…that alone says a TON.

also, obviously dont know much about the membership, but ive heard there’s quite a bit of legit players there. if you’re a legit scratch or better golfer, im sure being an oakmont member is as close as it gets to heaven.
