This isn’t 1965, knee surgery isn’t an automatic death sentence, and he doesn’t have an offseason job to get in his way. He can rehab himself back to pre injury levels.

I’m a Bronco and Bailey fan that just watched him get torched by Tori Smith for two TDs.

Champ Bailey is 34 years old!! Charles Woodson is 36, of course they aren’t what they are. But they played alot of prime level football between the age of 28, which is what Revis will be at the start of next season and now. It’s foolish to be talking about a 28 year old cornerback being on the downside of his career.

I know in the Giants game at the end of the season, he almost single handedly kept the Jets in the game with his play. He shut down whatever and whoever came to his side of the field. In regards to this premature talk about age and downside of the career when talking about a player still in his 20′s, Charles Woodson won DPOY at the age of 32. Deion was still highly productive as well as Champ Bailey. There is nothing to indicate that he would be at the downside of his career anytime soon.

Plus Revis was never speed guy or the raw athlete that Champ and Deion were. He has always been a 4.5-4.6/40 type that was physical and had great instincts. Woodson’s recent success has been as a safety and hybrid Va-Tech style rover. He is no longer locking down the oppositions #1.

Maybe Revis can become the next Charles (or Rod for that matter) Woodson or maybe he becomes a corner that needs help over the top because his speed is further limited by an ACL tear. Either way it’s a poor investment. You don’t pay $12mm or more to a safety period or to a corner that doesn’t have makeup speed and can’t jam at the line because every time a WR makes a move off the snap his surgically repaired knee buckles.

How about Alex Smith and a 3rd and 4th round pick?

Only if you include Jim Harbaugh in the trade, because without him, Smith is the same Alex Smith pre 2011.
