Manti Te’o Scored a 1540 on His SATs
How smart is Manti Te’o? In one form or another, that is a question that everyone has asked in the last week. What’s the best way to determine how intelligent someone is? No, not by seeing if he or she will enter into a year-long relationship and fall in love with a man pretending to be a woman over the Internet! The best way to determine someone’s intelligence is standardized testing. With a college kid we must look no further than the SATs.
According to a Scout.com/True Blue Sports article from 2008, Te’o scored a 1540 on his SATs. Under the old, 1600 SATs, 1540 would be pretty damn impressive. Unfortunately, Te’o would have taken the SATs after the newer 2400-point test was put into effect in 2005. This chart on the Internet tells us that a 1540 on the new 2400-based SATs is equal to around 1050 on the old 1600 SATs. If you look at the Notre Dame admissions page, you will note that 1050 is below the average SAT score of Notre Dame students.
Looking back at this article from USA Today, the average SAT scores in 2008 were just above 1500. That means that Te’o is of average intelligence when compared to high school kids who were planning on attending college. There you have it. How smart is Manti Te’o?
Manti Te’o is not as smart as the average Notre Dame student, but he is as smart as an average college student. Unless you believe in stuff like racial bias in the SATs. Or would like a common sense component brought into the conversation. How smart is Manti Te’o? I don’t know.

Agree that Notre Dame doesn’t hold football players to the same admissions standards as other students.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:10 PM
I can guess ballpark what my SAT score was and have no idea what my ACT score was.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:10 PM
I always heard the ACT was for mouth-breathers… it all adds up now.

Looking back we should probably cut Slater some slack for his score, kid was in the early stages of CTE which was accelerated by playing every sport Bayside offered
January 24th, 2013 at 4:11 PM
What did Morris get on his SATs YYSA?
January 24th, 2013 at 4:11 PM
The old SAT scores could be submitted for admittance to MENSA. But not the new version.

1300 SAT score here with an average in the mid-low 90′s, played 3 sports, student gov’t president, all that nonsense and still didn’t get into ND or wait listed.
Not complaining, just giving reference to what the non-athlete needs to get into the school.

January 24th, 2013 at 4:17 PM
It’s a regional thing. At least during my college application days, the schools I was applying to (primarily in the midwest) were looking for ACT not SAT.
not bad.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:17 PM
Maybe you didn’t get into ND because you don’t put your statements in proper context from the get-go. Dipshit.

Nope. Kinda like Harvard – it’s all about getting in. Getting out is easy.

Was in top 20%. Wasn’t surprised I didn’t get in, but shows that you have to be top echelon to get in there.

folks aren’t really pissed are they? it was in context of the discussion. someone asked about what to do with a gifted kid and he was helping with an example from his life.
no problem with bragging if it’s true
January 24th, 2013 at 4:23 PM
Yeah I remember that. I knew it was the the midwest or south that wanted the ACT, hence the mouth-breather comment.
Thanks. I took at pretty much my peak IQ.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:24 PM
I took the ACT but don’t remember why. Might have gotten extra credit in a class for taking it or something, I know I didn’t have to report it on any college applications.

I took the PSAT in 7th Grade for some Duke Talent Search something or another. I didn’t do very well on it but was immediately accepted into Ole Miss and LSU as a result.

I thought ole piss was kind of hard to get into because all the snooty, pretentious fucks there think it is some prestigious school. either that, or they just have real small admissions classes to keep it small and make it seem like it is worth a shit. I honestly don’t remember.

I’m a terrible parent.
I won’t allow my kids to participate in AP classes. My two oldest – my response was “If regular classes are that easy, then go get a job bagging groceries in your spare time. It’ll make you a more well-rounded person.”

January 24th, 2013 at 4:46 PM
I’m pretty sure people still discuss their SAT scores in the old format. What I mean is…the new test just added a section. When you ask a current highschooler how they did, they’ll usually just tell you their score from the math and verbal- which is comparable to the old format.
Maybe I’m out of the loop on this one though. Somebody with kids should clear this up.
So- without the article being more clear, I’m not sure what 1540 means.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:46 PM
Damn, we have some LSAT ballers in this thing.
I took that test at some weird college I’d never heard of. Their freshmen were having orientation and were let out for the day right when the proctor said to begin the test. I remember trying to do a puzzle while Burbans and Lacs bumped in the parking lot.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:46 PM
Nope, that’s reserved for team owner Tom Benson.
The cheerleaders should be the PeliCans.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:47 PM
IB classes are a lot harder than AP and – unless they’ve changed it – they require you to complete several hundred hours of community service to get your diploma, theory is the well rounded stuff. Without a doubt the last two years of high school were harder than anything I did in college.
January 24th, 2013 at 4:48 PM

Google takes your SAT score seriously as well as GPA when hiring. Or at least used to when Larry / Sergey were approving every single hire. Worked fairly well in their case.
