Justin Upton Traded to Braves, Joins Brother B.J. in Atlanta
Justin Upton has been traded to the Atlanta Braves along with third baseman Chris Johnson in exchange for Martin Prado, pitcher Randall Delgado, and minor leaguers Nick Ahmed and Zeke Spruill. The only formality left in completing the deal was Upton passing a physical, but according to Jon Heyman it is now official. Completing such a deal means Justin will be patrolling the outfield alongside his brother B.J., forming a modern day version of storied bros, Jose and Ozzie Canseco, though that’s not very fair to B.J., who’s a damn good player in his own right. Here’s Upton’s reaction to the trade:
“Bittersweet day for me. So happy to get the chance to play with my brother in Atlanta but will miss the city and fans here in Phoenix.”
He’s still just 25-years-old, but last season Upton’s home run total was basically cut in half and his OPS dipped from .898 in 2011 to .785 in 2012. One member of the Braves has already been quoted as saying that losing Prado is “a bad move.” Then again, Jason Heyward’s reaction was “Christmas in January.” Everyone’s happy, everyone’s sad. Though having said that, as of right now this trade is officially, or perhaps unofficially, impossible to assess.

Upton’s draft had some insane talent at the top.
And some shitty kid the Pirates drafted that they never should have traded Rising Young Star Nate McLouth to open up centerfield for.

He’s popping bottles of Cristal on the private plane to Atlanta glad to be out of that hell hole. Hopefully Frediot doesn’t piss him off more.

Can we call the 2013 Braves season the UpBowl?

Isn’t the new guy Bashuk (?) a Braves fan? Shouldn’t he be writing all Braves posts?!

This has a lot more spectacular failure potential than people think. Could be great, but the three did have .298/.355/.335 OBPs last year. A couple of down years could give away as many outs as they save.

They are the Upteam

3 Jeff Clement
4 Ryan Zimmerman
5 Ryan Braun
6 Ricky Romero
7 Troy Tulowitzki
a classic Seattle Mariners move.

It could also go awesome, and both Uptons get rejuvenated, and Heyward thrives with protection etc, but there won’t be very many 4 pitch ABs

Just because he’s pissed at the front office doesn’t mean he is not going to miss the city and the fans.
If by fans he meant Arizona State coeds and Scottsdale groupies. Who wouldn’t miss them?

BJ had to get the hell out of Tampa.

Plus defenders all around the outfield should be good for the flyball pitchers on the ATL staff.

a buddy of mine likes to use “to make a long story short” and then proceed to tell a long, boring story you already know the ending to.

Trevor fucking Crowe…

Helped coach a college team few summers ago. Literally everyday someone told a story about “a buddy”. Got so annoying it became a meme. Having said that, hearing or seeing buddy makes me laugh everytime.

Wow. That draft was awesome.

Fuck off. Enjoy Winning it all for the memory of Mike Illitch. It worked out well for the Patriots.

Indian Fever seems like it would be a great nickname for smallpox.

If the Braves complete the triumvirate and add Kate Upton to the outfield, we fans are guaranteed a Braves post every day this season.

I’m gonna mis Nitram Odarp. His teammate handshakes were legendary.

Yes, I am a Braves fan. I am excited about this move. Losing Prado hurts, but he was going to walk after this year – doesn’t sound like Braves would pay him 12+ million a year after this year. The Braves have an exciting outfield locked up for 3 years, and the lineup looks solid. The only issue is the gaping hole at third base.
I don’t mind commenting on baseball, but I think I’ll probably stick to writing posts about basketball.

Anyway, good to have another Braves fan on the site. We still far outnumber the Nats fans, though (one and counting: SROD).
January 24th, 2013 at 5:44 PM
Bad move for the Braves. Prado was their team leader – played hard all the time. They probably got Justin in hopes he will keep BJ happy. I see major problems ahead for Freddi Gonzalez. This could blow up.
January 24th, 2013 at 9:52 PM
Y’all know I love the Nats. I don’t mind being the last man standing…
