Lakers Routed by Grizzlies 106-93, Dwight Howard Injured, Let the Fun Begin!
The Lakers just dropped their 4th game in a row, 106-93, this one in Memphis, to a Grizzlies team that is vastly superior to LA. It was another soul-withering defeat for Kobe (29 points on 23 shots), who will no doubt seek out a hotel bar and angrily play some Beethoven on the piano later this evening.
Dwight Howard appeared to re-injure his shoulder in the first half, and begged out of the game in the 2nd quarter. He had another uninspiring stat line that will only continue to sink his trade value: 14 minutes, 0-for-4, two points, two rebounds, two fouls. Who is going to want to trade for a malcontent that will frustrate a fanbase for the next few years? Anyone want to coach this guy?
For the Lakers, Steve Nash had as many shot attempts (6) as turnovers. It’s all been downhill for him since that fan handed him a beer on the highway last summer.
Earl Clark took the 2nd most shots on the team (13), and LA had as many turnovers (15) as assists. At 17-25, LA is still four games back of Houston for the 8th and final spot in the West.
Solutions? Well, Thursday should be fun.

The Weather Channel has a phrase, “mountain snow/valley rain”. I once tried to write a country song using that phrase. Crux of the song was “it depends on where you’re standing”.
For a Memphis team re-tooling its’ roster while trying to keep up with the top three in the West, they needed a convincing win regardless of opponent.

Only he never made it to the stage to claim his trophy, because he didn’t hear his name called.

Would love to be in LA for this Laker meltdown. Curious whether the reaction is panic or apathy.

Hopefully Dr. Buss concentrates his efforts on finding/buying a new SC coach now that he’s handed the Laker reins to Woody Johnson West

Manti Te’o's girlfriend plays better defense than Steve Nash.

I would describe it as despair. It’s awesome to have it happening while the Clippers are actually good. If Chris Paul leaves after this year, 2013-14 is going to be rough out here

To think…Stern’s vetoing of the Paul deal has really done the most harm to the Lakers. They didn’t get the PG they wanted. They had to keep Pau — who at $19 mil per year is nearly untradeable. They had to let Lamar Odom go for peanuts. And they put all their eggs in the Dwight Howard crazy basket.

And it let Houston acquire Harden later on down the road.

“Have you ever watched an All-Star Game? It’s God-awful because everybody gets the ball, they go 1-on-1 and then they play no defense.”
