Ballin’: Better Dunk – Kevin Durant vs. the Clippers or Nick Young on Larry Sanders?
Oklahoma City 109, LA Clippers 97: Kevin Durant dropped a 32-7-7 plus that dunk; Westbrook added 26, and as usual, Nick Collison was solid in reserve (8 points, 7 rebounds, stellar defense in 40 minutes). The Clippers didn’t have Chris Paul, so save your “Thunder are the best in the West” comments for their next meeting. Blake Griffin got his (31 points, 11 rebounds), but Bledsoe/Crawford combined to shoot 11-for-34.
Cleveland 95, Boston 90: Kyrie Irving scored 40 points (15 in the 4th), and Boston is under .500 at the halfway point (20-21). That’s a scary proposition for the Celtics, who are currently 8th in the East. Could they go 30-11 the rest of the way? Maybe, but that’s unlikely. When do we fire up some wild Dwight Howard trade rumors that involve the Celtics? Also, it looks like age is catching up with 35-year-old Paul Pierce. Sure, he’s still money in the clutch, but he’s only shooting 42 percent this year (49 percent two years ago), which is the worst season he’s had since 2003-2004.
Milwaukee 110, Philadelphia 102: Jrue Holiday struggled (3-of-12, eight turnovers), and the 76ers freefall continues – they’ve lost 15 of 21. Andrew Bynum can’t get here soon enough. Ersan Ilyasova had a career night for the Bucks: 27 points, 16 rebounds. Nick Young served up a facial on Larry Sanders.
Detroit 105, Orlando 90: When are the Magic going to trade JJ Redick? He scored 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting, and he’s never shot this well before in his career (46 percent from the field). He’s also playing more minutes (31) and taking more shots (11) than ever. Who needs Dwight Howard? Andre Drummond watch, because I’m enamored with this rookie from UConn: 11 points, 11 rebounds in 23 minutes. Next year, if he’s playing 35 minutes a night, is he a 20-15 guy?

So glad that so many teams passed on him. Fools. The Candy Man can.

Why? They are.

Serge Ibaka set a career high with three assists, way to go Serge!

“Next year, if he’s playing 35 minutes a night, is he a 20-15 guy?”
No. 14 and 11 maybe, but he’s still raw and may never consistently score 20 a night. Not many guys can.

Dwight Howard would crumble in Boston. He can’t take the pressure and criticism
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:02 AM
OKC would beat the Clips 4-1. Durant could average 35 a night.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:03 AM
No shit. You dropped Carey Price. Way to ruin the league Joe.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:05 AM
Agreed.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:05 AM
I will not. They’re definitely better than those lottery-bound Mavs.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:07 AM
and i picked him up in a trade.
Remember last year how I cut Rick Nash when he was on columbus and SouvenirCity got all pissy? Now that he’s on the Rangers, I’m not dumping him whatsoever
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:07 AM
Celtics so, so pathetic. Ugh
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:09 AM
Rondo seems like he’s not trying most nights
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:10 AM
i figured he plays for canadiens and nabokov plays for the wild, so, wins.
vladdy e-mail me. i’m just talking about simple setting the lineup every day. ap, you can too, just didn;t want to bug you again. there’s no help at the site for noobs

Drummond should be playing 35 min by now. Are they trying to develop Jason Maxiell? They might’ve won a few more games, be close to the 8 seed if he was playing more.

eh, I think I’ll feel safe in jumping the gun on this one. OKC is the best in the west.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:13 AM
Durant-Westbrook-Ibaka better than the top 3 for the clippers.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:19 AM
While Boston doesn’t look very good right now, I don’t think Miami really wants to see them in the opening round.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:23 AM
Boston can summon up enough energy to be very good for a game or 2, but they can’t sustain high level play for an extended period of time.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:23 AM
15 rebounds a game is a lot. Kevin Love is the only one to do it in the last decade.
I think you’re looking at more of a 15-18ppg and 11 or 12 rpg.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:23 AM
boston has had very bad moments the past few years but they still end up deep in the playoffs. I won’t be surprised if Doc and ownership force Ainge’s hand and trades are made.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:31 AM
Not to mention, you can’t extrapolate minutes. Output is difficult to sustain over increased minutes. That’s just not how it works.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:32 AM
What the hell?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:32 AM
I’m ok with Drummond’s limited mins. Pistons aren’t doing anything this year, so ease him in. The more mins he gets, the sooner he hits the wall.
I do believe he’s the league’s most talented center already. He has more offensive ability than Dwight Howard could dream of.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:33 AM
It’s ridiculous. At the deadline they need to deal Maxiell and Prince for a young player or a couple picks.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:34 AM
Why not just sit in the 8th seed if you’re Boston. If you beat Miami (which you would have had to anyway, you have the #1 seed’s path to the finals. (Assuming they don’t re-seed, which I’m pretty sure they don’t).
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:35 AM
I’m pretty sure that there have been a lot of analysis that players play better the more that they play. Logically, it makes sense.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:36 AM
That Cavs-Grizzle trade was odd. Marcus Speights and Ellington? Please tell me Ellington’s lady friend is still with him…
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:41 AM
Drummond should be playing 35 min by now.
Geez I wouldnt play any young center more than 28-30 a night. Those feet will be destroyed by the time his skills match up.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:42 AM
They certainly have a frontcourt you can build around, but you basically have to start over at the guard and wing positions. You need to hope for a favorable draft position.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:45 AM
Every game they win I squirm just a bit more.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:46 AM
I’m assuming that’s a joke I just don’t find particularly funny.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:52 AM
Read a story this morning about Kevin Johnson warning Seattle not to get excited just yet about a Kings move and claiming he has lined up 20 investors pledging $1 million each to keep the team in Sacramento.
That really made me laugh. I know the Kings suck, but I’m pretty sure the team is worth more than $20 million.

Not a dunk
January 23rd, 2013 at 12:07 PM
More impressive than Durant’s dunk were his back to back threes in the 4th to shut the game down.
January 23rd, 2013 at 12:15 PM
they are better than a lot of what is on that roster right now
