268-Seconds of a Baby Hitting Golf Balls [Video]
This 17-month old baby has incredible hand-eye coordination. Unless all little kids do this? Sure, Tiger Woods was sinking putts on the Mike Douglas show when he was two, but this little kid has at least 7-months to catch up. Come on, Jimmy Fallon/Conan/Jimmy Kimmel, let this kid smash his fake plastic golf balls at your audience. It would be awesome.

My, now 5 year old son, used to hit like this. Then his attention span un-developed. Now he wont go to the range without being bored after 5 minutes. Still hits like a boss tho.

Not shocking (well, the margin is). Without Kelly it’s a horrible matchup. Miami has so much more size.

Speaking of Arizona, Bruce Arians brought on the defensive coordinator from Delaware to be the secondary coach. Smallie would find that interesting, or discouraging.

Started watching Homeland now that I’m caught up on Justified. Winters’s wife can fucking get it.
January 23rd, 2013 at 8:33 PM
I remember seeing Homeland advertised before it came out but never caught it. Any good?
January 23rd, 2013 at 8:35 PM
Everyone loved it, I guess the first season and two thirds are great then it kind of fell apart at the end of the second season is what the general wisdom seems to be.
I’m enjoying it so far.
January 23rd, 2013 at 8:38 PM
I actually just pulled it up. It being on showtime is why I never ended up catching it. I had HBO and Max when they had a promotion going on, but I’m too cheap to get those channels when there isn’t a discount going on.
January 23rd, 2013 at 8:40 PM
When it premiered I was living with an old roommate that had Showtime and I think they did a thing where the whole season was available on demand before it aired. Something like that. Guess it helped its popularity.
January 23rd, 2013 at 8:43 PM
That reminds me when Showtime aired the first few episodes of that Sparticus show trying to get people to subscribe. Think that’s what it was called anyways. Looked sort of like 300 so I was thinking it’d probably be pretty bad ass. Checked it out and it was nothing but dudes walking around with their fucking dongs hanging out. Never watched another episode.
January 23rd, 2013 at 8:46 PM
The one on Starz? That had epic deaths.
January 23rd, 2013 at 8:48 PM
Yep. Mixed up my movie channels. I do remember it having some amazing looking fight scenes from the previews but I just couldn’t get into it.

“Hey you know how kids who are pushed by their parents to put all their energy into one sport always burn out and struggle later in life? And you know how child actors always end up crazy? What do you think about combining the two… the effects will cancel out and we’ll have a well-adjusted child with mature stable relationships”

I do remember the first big win for Pitt in my time there. Beat Syracuse in 2001 (maybe Jan 2002) at the old Fieldhouse, and it vaulted them from crappiness to now 10 straight years of high rankings and early Tourney exits.

Same. Would love to see the ACC hoops schools cut bait on football and create some sort of East Coast basketball superconference. But of course, they’ll cling to football dreams until they’re cut out of the 64 team loop.

Don’t feel bad. I asked everyone if they read the story about the guy that outsourced his own job. Was informed it had been in the Roundup from about a week prior. At least you only missed by 12 or so hours.

This game is hilarious. Miami getting any basket they want. Blocking duke shots left and right. Brutal beatdown
January 23rd, 2013 at 9:01 PM
That could go really well, or be really expensive and short-lived. There’s a decent chance none of them hits .270 next year, if Justin slumps at all.

My dad is from Rhode Island, was at UConn for the Tom Penders years with my mom, and I grew up a UConn fan (because of them) and a St. Johns (and Mets) fan because 660 WFAN was the only station I got. Then I went to Pitt for school. So yeah the Big East is in my blood.

I thought that was a joke. Those are two numbers which make the 23 point spread seem even higher. Wow. Miami is really celebrating their get-out-of-jail-free card. Someone better tell them, that much like Omar’s deal from the ADA, it only covers petty NCAA crimes, and no accessories to murder.

I actually liked Syracuse as a very young kid, but when I was old enough I realized the 2-3 is an embarrassment to basketball and Calhoun was building his program the absolute right way (cue anti-Calhoun jokes, but I mean from a basketball perspective)
January 23rd, 2013 at 9:08 PM

Blunt, but good guy. Attacked only when provoked. The “not a dime” and Ryan Gomes’ rants are legendary.
January 23rd, 2013 at 9:21 PM
I think we can all agree that Calhoun was a better dude than Auriemma. And Belichick is a total prick but in private is a funny decent guy sometimes, so maybe I gotta open the chance Calhoun is.
That said, set an over-under on number of players Auriemma banged at UConn?

Very proud in NH of the highest recorded wind speed on earth. Have a feeling that the lack of observatories on Denali and Everest have something to do with it though. Still, it’s pretty crazy the weather they get. A winter ascent of Washington is on my to-do list, mostly because I’m not crazy enough to try a real (read: tall) mountain.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:27 PM
I have to take a business calc. class to finish of my Econ. degree, haven’t taken a math class besides stats and econometrics in about 20 years, sounded like you had a better grasp on it than my instructors…i’ll figure it out but anything could help.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:33 PM
I look up a lot of random shit to pass the time at work. Valdez, Alaska has a mean annual temperature of 11 degrees. Over 27 feet of snow on average a year, had 37 last year. Coldest actual temperature in North America ever recorded was -81 on some government airstrip/weather station in Canada. Though the last time the temperature was recorded was in the 60′s or 70′s because surprise surprise. The government abandoned it. I’ll bet 81 degrees below 0 played a role in that decision.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:36 PM
Ty – you are always welcome to email me with any questions (my name at gmail), though I’m not 100% sure I am much better than your instructors.
All I will say is to understand the big picture. The entire point of calculus is to replace sums with a single equation.
If you want to figure out the area under a curve y = f(x), you can estimate the area by drawing it into rectangles, estimating the area of each and adding them up. The smaller the rectangles, the better they fit under the curve and the more accurate your estimate will be. So instead of rectangles every 10 units, you could draw one every 5, every 1 unit, and each estimate would be more accurate, until you get infinitely small (a width of dx), and end up with the true area under the curve. That’s the entire purpose of integration. That’s it.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:42 PM
Very proud in NH of the 2nd highest recorded wind speed on earth.
Australia beat that in 2010.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:42 PM
thanx WWoS, sorry to talk “shop” so to speak but I appreciate your insight…
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:42 PM
The other important thing is to realize what integration means, especially for practical applications.
I like the driving a car analogy. If x = time (t), and y = velocity, you get a curve f(x) that represents the speed you were going at each time t.
So if you look at the slope of the line at any one point, you are seeing how steeply the velocity changes (delta-V/delta-t = dV/dt) which = acceleration. So if your velocity is y = x2, the derivative equation (y = 2x) = velocity.
When you integrate, you are basically looking at velocity per time, which is how many miles per hour you went, times the number of hours. So the entire area under the curve is the total distance traveled. So if you went 60 mph (y=60) for 1 hour, you went 60 miles (obviously), but you can draw a rectangle which represents that. If your speed changes according to f(x), you can integrate that equation, to figure out how far you’ve gone overall.
Another good application is throwing a baseball, because you have velocity/distance/acceleration etc.
For you, I’m sure you’ll have rate of sales, and integrate to find total sales, or derivate (?) to find change in rate of sales, or something like that.
/hope that helps
//hope that’s not wrong
