Valid question. I don’t know the answer. I think saying he wants attention is too simplistic. Maybe it’s more psychological and he’s still hurting on that loss. Or maybe he knows something about Callahan and that game that he hasn’t shared yet. The point is without anything to support his statement it is completely unsupported.

He didn’t have much to gain by changing up a game plan either. What also doesn’t make sense is that with the concern of having to replace Robbins in place, you would stick with the running game for the new starter rather than the more complicated pass calls.

That game was three years earlier, in 1999. A lot can change in 3 years. Napoleon Kaufman was no longer on the team and Wheatley aged about 10 yrs in runningback years. Crockett was never anything more than a goal-line back. If that’s your plan when you have the top pass offense in the league and MVP Rich Gannon throwing to Jerry Rice and Tim Brown…good luck.

He says Callahan changed the plays because Robbins disappeared, while Brown says Robbins disappearing was caused by Callahan changing the gameplan the day before the Super Bowl.
