1) That “most watched show in TV history” line isn’t even CLOSE to being right. Half a billion people watched the moon landing, let alone the four billion that watched the Beijing opening games, or the quarter billion that watched the World Cup final.

Last years superbowl was the most watched program in US history at 111 million. Relax.

Reasons for the drop:
1) New York Giants (’12) vs. Atlanta Falcons (’13). New York is the No. 1 TV market.
2) The late game in 2012 (Giants at 49ers) had drama and went to overtime, driving up ratings. The Patriots, amazingly, didn’t score in the 2nd half against the Ravens Sunday, and after Brady’s tipped-pass interception with about eight minutes left, the game appeared to be over.

2) That being said, the fact that that post is about ratings DROPPING just shows how great of a metric they are.

The Super Bowl is an event, and the combatants don’t really matter that much.

to an extent, but historically good and popular teams probably bring bigger ratings. for instance, I’d bet the Steelers/Pack got better ratings than Steelers/Cards and Steelers/Seahags
