Manti Te’o Told Interviewer Lennay Kekua Wrote Him Letters Through Stanford Game, 31 Days After She Died [UPDATE: Claimed He Got One Before Wake Forest]
Manti Te’o discussed Lennay Kekua in an interview with Notre Dame Athletics on November 13. He told the interviewer he received the last letter from her before the Stanford game on Oct. 13. The game was 31 days after her supposed death on Sept. 12. If we can assume he didn’t forget Notre Dame’s schedule, it seems he believed (or pretended to believe) she wrote the letters ahead of time? This story just keeps getting weirder.

UPDATE: Pete Thamel references these letters in this article from Sports Illustrated. Te’o mentions a specific letter before the Michigan game to Thamel and claimed Kekua’s brother Kainoa read it to him. Thamel’s article references a letter received for the Senior Day game against Wake Forest. Thamel claims Te’o was read the letters by family members before being emailed them.
Te’o told the Notre Dame interviewer the last letter came before the Stanford game on Oct. 13 (interview more than four weeks after that game). Te’o then told Thamel he received another letter from her before the Wake Forest game on Nov. 17.

When I was in college I only checked my mail once or twice a month. That probably explains it.

if we assume that someone was indeed getting jollies hoaxing him, regardless of all the details and work, the could be innocent
i’d rather he be in on it, but there is still a shred of possibility that every time he went to meet the gf, the hoaxers sent someone as her
yes/no/maybe so?

Ty duffy you need to learn how to listen. Manti said she wrote a letter for each game….in advance…and that it was “kind of creepy” that she did that. And the last game she wrote a letter for was Stanford. In advance. I know youre trying to keep the story going, but this one is a swing and a miss

I don’t know. This kid might just be that naive and dumb as a bag of hammers.

I took him to mean that she wrote the letters for him in advance. I look forward to one of the nets hiring an expert to analyze his eye movements and body language to see if he’s lying.

I feel like I have probably missed some hilarious comments on this in the previous 10 posts, but I don’t wanna open a wormhole trying to read them all.
Maybe he had a magic mailbox like Sandra Bullock and Neo.

I’m failing to see why this is a big deal at all. So what if he lied. Are there any serious repercussions? Does anyone get fined, arrested, suspended, etc.? No, he just goes to the NFL draft, and he is a guy who made up a lie.

The media were duped. Therefore, someone must pay and his ability to succeed in the NFL must be questioned. Because it’s not like Kassandra Perkins or Jerry Brown are still dead or anything.

Why is Pat Forde and Dan Wetzel seemingly buying whatever ND is shoveling?
Deadspin/ThebigLead are the _ONLY_ folks asking questions instead of buying whatever ND is spinning on this.
