But you seem to take that as some sort of indication that it was a well thrown pass where it actually only indicates that it was an underthrown pass that was defended poorly. If the safety takes a better route to the area that pass is either batted away or intercepted and Manning is going back to the AFC title game.

Underthrew it? It went 60 yards in the air. Moore misplayed that pass precisely becauase it went farther than he thought it would.

I’m not so sure about Germany, but I know that Japan’s strategy was to basically take as much territory and cause as much destruction in 6 months in order to try to force the Americans to accept the situation and sign a peace treaty. Yamamoto had studied in the U.S. when he was younger and was familiar with the country’s industrial capacity and potential to expand it. Days before the the attack on Pearl Harbor, which Yamamoto was deeply ambivalent about, he related to the Emperor that he while he would run wild with victories for 6 months, he ultimately had no confidence in a Japanese victory if the war persisted beyond that point. His words were prophetic almost to the day: the turning point of the war when Japan could no longer take the offensive with overwhelming firepower, was the Battle of Midway, June 6, 1842. Nearly 6 months to the day after Pearl Harbor.

Manning was very unlucky, with the D choking it away and the PI turned pick six, but he had the chance to win the game in overtime and came up short
