Soccer Sunday: Manchester United vs. Liverpool, Arsenal vs. Manchester City
Liverpool at Manchester United: Two bitter rivals. Two of English football’s most fabled clubs. Man U sit seven points clear at the top of the EPL. Liverpool, fighting to get back to the Champions League windfall, are nine points behind Tottenham with a game in hand. This match features the league’s two top scorers: Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez. The former is thriving, playing for a relevant team. The latter has been a lightning rod for controversy. It will be interesting to see whether and how Liverpool works in new signing Daniel Sturridge. Rumors Howard Webb has already awarded a penalty to Man United are unconfirmed.
Manchester City at Arsenal: Both in the top four mix. Both moderate disappointments. Man City, coming off a dramatic EPL title win in 2012, were expected to exert control on the league this year. Instead, they are seven points off the pace. Arsenal sold their best player in the summer, again, and should face a fight not to lose out on Champions League play (and cash) for the first time under Arsene Wenger. This may be a “must win” for both teams. Mario Balotelli’s future remains up in the air, after this fiasco. Wenger defended charging exorbitant prices for tickets, when the club has won nothing since 2005.

Hey, thanks for the post.
Most important thing from these games is Piers Morgan kills himself.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:38 AM
Fucking Downing is a black hole. There’s more than a few guys I’d have picked over him for this game.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:39 AM
Downing has actually played very well the past six weeks and he’s solid at tracking back.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:40 AM
I’ve just hated him since he came to Anfield, and he brings nothing to the attack
January 13th, 2013 at 8:40 AM
This pitch is fucking embarrassing.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:42 AM
Kagawa is such a piece of shit.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
I love RVP’s game, it is just too bad he plays for that team.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
I’m not shocked Downing is starting. With Johnson having to play left back Wisdom will need help on the right and he offers the best cover of any of the attackers. The safe move, really.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
Downing ruins another possession the second he touches the ball
January 13th, 2013 at 8:49 AM
Yeah it is safe, but Man U will get their goals today, regardless. RVP is so good.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:49 AM
Allllllllllll the space in the world from Wisdom.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:50 AM
Liverpool couldn’t keep a clean sheet against fuckig Mansfield
January 13th, 2013 at 8:51 AM
Wisdom getting sucked inside way too much, giving Evra that much time is suicide.
Thanks Fenway Sports group for leaving us with zero fullbacks depth you fucking cocks.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:51 AM
When does Sturridge make an appearance?
January 13th, 2013 at 8:54 AM
Fuck this could get ugly. Not even a half chance for the Reds yet.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:55 AM
But Arsenal got great value for him! Look at the profit margin!
January 13th, 2013 at 8:57 AM
Pipe down, word on the street is your squad is complete as complete can be.
I so wanted this deal to work out like Torres, and of course he’s now indestructible after years of being Robin Van Porcelain.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:00 AM
That’s what you get, Ashley Young, you fuck. And naturally no booking.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:02 AM
Hard to tell when Young is truly injured when he falls down so sporadically.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:04 AM
Arsenal are a dumpster fire.
They have to make Champions League to fund a 4th place squad while charging the highest ticket price in the Prem – to continue placing 4th.
I hope they don’t qualify just to see what happens. 6th 8th 4th who gives a fuck.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
Wenger will boast about his BPL participation ribbon to the media if Arsenal finishes 5th or worst.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
He should have been booked for going in on Agger like that, sits for two minutes and rolls around to avoid booking, and is perfectly fine.
But yeah Suarez is the cheat.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:13 AM
Man U can do no wrong in the eyes of Mr. Webb.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:15 AM
Outside of Young this has been a very well officiate match all things considered, so I expect a sending off soon.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:15 AM
Wow if RVP finishes that shit….
January 13th, 2013 at 9:16 AM
Good thing Rodgers didn’t get the midfield horribly wrong so we have to burn a sub on the keeper here.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:17 AM
No shit. Allen looks lost out there.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:20 AM
Reina looked concussed as a mother fucker.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:21 AM
Put in Shelvey and Sturridge for Downing and Allen at half.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:22 AM
Right back is suspect and Sterling is weak for me. Garrard needs to conjure some days of yore to get Liverpool back in this.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:23 AM
Sturridge for Downing and Henderson for Allen.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Hopefully Borini can get in the game. If it’s still a one goal game in the last fifteen his positional awareness could open up space.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Wenger had no choice but to sell RvP to Manchester United. RvP refused to go abroad and Arsenal can’t afford to have their top earner rotting in the reserves.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
*flash forward to 4-0 at seventy minutes*
January 13th, 2013 at 9:35 AM
They ended up breaking their wage behavior with Walcott, should have sucked up and paid RVP. Could have paid him and not signed Giroud and they break even.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
Ugh Downing and Allen both still on. Valencia is going to cause maaaaad issues for them at the back
January 13th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
BALLSY SUB! Holy shit. Taking off Lucas there, damn. Made easier by the booking but he’s been the only midfielder to show up.
Means Suarez as the #10 hopefully, this could work.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
Nearly fucked them already with Allen’s clumsy tackle outside the box there
January 13th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
Henderson definitely has to come on for Allen soon though. If you’re playing a two man midfield you need your fastest midfielder out there, Shelvey’s lack of pace would be bad.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
Oh wow Wisdom, that was embarrassing.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:45 AM
Very good decision, Reina was out and would have claimed the ball anyway.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
And game. Thank god I’m already fucked up.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:47 AM
Stay goal side of your fucking man Johnson! Damn this team
January 13th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
1:1 PLAYER HE IS
January 13th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
That was all Stevie G
January 13th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
Arsenal offered RvP 150,000 a week plus a 5 million pound signing bonus, a deal in line with what Henry earned years ago.
Wenger wanted to sell the fucking cunt to Juventus but he only wanted to go to United, despite having a better offer from Citeh.
Wenger really was damned if he did and damned if he didn’t on this one, but ultimately it’s his fault because he failed to surround RvP with enough quality players to entice him to stay. There was a rumor van Persie had second thoughts after we signed Cazorla, I tend not to believe them.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
Wow what a dive.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:55 AM
Jesus, what a save.
January 13th, 2013 at 9:56 AM
That collision is highly gifable.
January 13th, 2013 at 10:04 AM
January 13th, 2013 at 10:06 AM
Balotelli is the prime suspect
/”Why always me?”
January 13th, 2013 at 10:27 AM
Oh well. Great second half, the subs absolutely worked. More excited by seeing that Suarez and Sturridge can work together perfectly than I am upset about the result.
