AFC Divisional Playoffs: Houston Texans at New England Patriots
The final divisional round game features the third regular season rematch of the round. The regular season winner has won one (San Francisco), and lost one (Denver). We just saw Denver lose a game against a team they dominated far more than the Patriots did to the Texans, regardless of what Dan Shaughnessy thinks.
We’ve seen New England lose at home to the Jets, and struggle to beat Baltimore with a last second missed field goal the last two years as large favorites of over a touchdown. Tom Brady and the Patriots’ offense rolled through the Texans in the last game. Two fumbles could have gone the other way, but otherwise the offense was largely flawless. New England contained J.J. Watt, and if Brady has time today, he will have a field day. Houston has to make him uncomfortable. A better performance by Watt, the return of Brooks Reed, and a healthier Johnathan Joseph may allow that.
On the other side of the ball, Houston actually moved the ball against the Patriots. They failed on key plays. Schaub threw a red zone interception, and they twice failed to convert fourth downs. If they want to win today, they need to win those key plays. New England has largely capitalized on other team’s mistakes and can give up yards. Houston has to turn them into points.
I picked Houston in the upset. I think that is a value play, even though the Patriots are the better team. We’ll soon see whether Houston, like Baltimore yesterday, can flip the script from the regular season matchup.

34-20 Pats
January 13th, 2013 at 4:33 PM
Taking the Texans at +3.5 parlayed with Wichita ML. Pays 4-1. Thinking the Texans play tough in this one compared to their last debacle in NE.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:36 PM
loaded up on the alternative line of Pats -14.5 at +195.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:36 PM
Don’t shit the bed Texans!!
January 13th, 2013 at 4:36 PM
? Pats led 42-7 v Hou
January 13th, 2013 at 4:38 PM
This is going to sting.
Pats 38 texans 10
January 13th, 2013 at 4:39 PM
This will be an ass raping
January 13th, 2013 at 4:39 PM
Houston chose to receive? ok. don’t the Pats prefer getting the ball to start the second half?
January 13th, 2013 at 4:40 PM
See the Texans are going with the all white Unis. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that from them before.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:40 PM
rooting for the Patriots -9.5.
there’s no way a 4th divisional game is really good, right? I’d be fine with 34-6.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:41 PM
oh for fuck’s sake.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:41 PM
Fuck!
January 13th, 2013 at 4:41 PM
Well then.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:41 PM
It is very warm in New England. Advantage Texans. Or they avoided the disadvantage of cold weather at least
January 13th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Nice catch shithead.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Fgs will kill us
January 13th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
I’ll take holding them to a fg. TD missed by Casey
January 13th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Fuck. Already settling for FGs. Fucking Casey.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Way to blow your momentum in 3 plays.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:45 PM
If you want to beat the Pats then field position like that needs to end with a touchdown.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:45 PM
gotta capitalize on those against Brady …
IMO, only way Texans win is if Brady gets knocked out.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:47 PM
Thats ridiculous Jmac. I dont see the Pats being as invincible as you are making them out to be.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:47 PM
Hou has the talent in the front seven to dominate the Pats line. I doubt it happens, but it’s possible
January 13th, 2013 at 4:48 PM
Monster punt
January 13th, 2013 at 4:49 PM
Lots of genius analysis with all these “you have to score a TD there” comments.
Really? No fucking shit.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:51 PM
I think the Texans have a better shot than most are giving them, especially if they take the run out of the pats game while getting an effective rush with 4-5 man schemes.
Offensively I think they can keep up.
January 13th, 2013 at 4:52 PM
Could see Hou winning kicking some fgs. Just need sustained drives and strong D. Really, I think the game has to be played to a low score for Hou to win
January 13th, 2013 at 4:52 PM
rooting for houston
just hope i don’t end up turning the tv off at halftime
January 13th, 2013 at 4:56 PM
FUCK!
January 13th, 2013 at 5:01 PM
So does not having Gronk make the Pats beatable?
January 13th, 2013 at 5:01 PM
Bad drop there. Seems to be an early theme in this game.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:02 PM
Welker adding to his reel of postseason drops. Gronk injury would be devastating. Should still win today, but brutal for SB chances
January 13th, 2013 at 5:03 PM
Knotty, no gronk didn’t stop the midnight rape last time.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:03 PM
They didn’t have him last time they played.
Adjustments can be made, mostly so they can account for the rush, which was more effective for Houston when gronk came out
January 13th, 2013 at 5:04 PM
Houston has never thrown that fade before.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:07 PM
Houston with the stone hands early
January 13th, 2013 at 5:08 PM
Both big Hou drops on left to right arrow routes
January 13th, 2013 at 5:09 PM
Pound the rock, pats. And hold on to it Ridley.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:11 PM
Pats playing uncharacteristically slow. Expect them to pick up pace between plays
January 13th, 2013 at 5:12 PM
Texans reluctantly dropping pants and bending over. Let’s just get this over with.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:13 PM
Had 50 on Aaron Hernandez scoring the first TD of the game at +700. Of course he gets stopped at the 1.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
January 13th, 2013 at 5:13 PM
Well that should be the end of Houston leading.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:15 PM
Faster without gronk
January 13th, 2013 at 5:15 PM
Gronk is as fragile as Pronk.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:16 PM
Leave Gronk out. Get him ready for Balt, when they’ll need him
January 13th, 2013 at 5:17 PM
Was reading an article in the paper about France going after Al-Qaida in Mali. I can’t stop laughing because apparently the residents of Mali only knew shit was about to go down when they saw “planes full of white people coming.” Guess they’ve never seen a whitey before.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:18 PM
Impressed with apple for editing out Serena’s weener in that commercial. Tough task.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:21 PM
Matt Schaub is worse than Joe Flacco.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:22 PM
Schaub impressing me. If only Hou could catch the ball
January 13th, 2013 at 5:22 PM
Though his receivers are definitely not helping right now.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:22 PM
Yes, he is. Not an insult though
January 13th, 2013 at 5:24 PM
Agreed but I thought being worse than Joe Flacco would be considered a huge insult around here.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:27 PM
If only Welker was 3″ taller
January 13th, 2013 at 5:30 PM
Ridiculous call. Fatfuck ref drops the easy toss, so he throws flag out of embarrassment
January 13th, 2013 at 5:30 PM
Bs call but if that ref was looking for the ball he’d have caught it
January 13th, 2013 at 5:31 PM
Patriots need to grab some of Ray Lewis’ killer instinct.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:32 PM
Donte Stallworth is on the roster
January 13th, 2013 at 5:37 PM
Was that Doug fluties daughter they showed when they showed the ne cheerleaders?
January 13th, 2013 at 5:38 PM
Take a shot downfield kubiak, you slut
January 13th, 2013 at 5:41 PM
His conservative play calling would drive me nuts if I was a Texans fan.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:42 PM
JJ Watt is something else.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:43 PM
Talib is doing a good job. Lb matchups on the slants can only be run so many times.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:43 PM
This is one of the more inaccurate Brady games
January 13th, 2013 at 5:44 PM
Damn what’s up with Brady’s passes today?
January 13th, 2013 at 5:44 PM
Houston is getting good pressure at times with 4-5 rushers, just missing by a hair. Good pockets from ne line
January 13th, 2013 at 5:46 PM
Ok nevermind.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:46 PM
Brady as good as there is at sliding. Only interior pressure really hampers him. Hou needs to collapse the pocket
January 13th, 2013 at 5:46 PM
Time to fire up the grill and do something else.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:46 PM
saw that wheel play coming when they lined up
January 13th, 2013 at 5:47 PM
With Atlanta winning today the Texans become the biggest frauds of the 2013 playoffs.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:47 PM
Nice PI welkahh.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:48 PM
I agree SCtrojans
They should put watt over the center, takes out the middle of the field for passing lanes. Brady doesn’t throw to his side much
January 13th, 2013 at 5:49 PM
Sctrojans are you a Pats fan?
January 13th, 2013 at 5:49 PM
I’ll go Packers. This could-be whoopin’ was widely expected
January 13th, 2013 at 5:50 PM
Yes, Pats and Redskins
I like that idea for Hou
January 13th, 2013 at 5:54 PM
Refs are in full on Patriots mode. Ignored 3 PI calls on Pats so far, that pass to Welker the latest.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:54 PM
Now, that’s just a dumb comment. The Broncos were the no. 1 seed, playing at home, with a 7 point lead with under a minute to go and choked. And the Ravens are still not a good team.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:54 PM
Denver?
January 13th, 2013 at 5:54 PM
Denver would like a word.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:55 PM
Pats should be taking timeout after that first down run
January 13th, 2013 at 5:55 PM
second down run***
January 13th, 2013 at 5:55 PM
Nah, Denver wasn’t a fraud, the media overhyped them by ignoring he facts they built their record on cellar dwellers
January 13th, 2013 at 5:56 PM
isn’t that the definition of a fraud?
January 13th, 2013 at 5:56 PM
Huge stretch
January 13th, 2013 at 5:56 PM
Pretty much the definition of a fraud.
January 13th, 2013 at 5:57 PM
GB was systematically annihilated. Den made a few bad plays
January 13th, 2013 at 5:59 PM
Whoah! That’s old fashioned monogamy.
/TBL in Ballin’
January 13th, 2013 at 5:59 PM
on the road, to a team that had already beaten them. Denver gagged away a home game against a team they had destroyed just a few weeks prior.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:01 PM
Balt got a lot of personnel back between Den meetings. GB had worst defensive playoff performance in recent memory
January 13th, 2013 at 6:03 PM
dAMN IT Keo!
January 13th, 2013 at 6:04 PM
Bullshit call there
January 13th, 2013 at 6:05 PM
I’m convinced Whereswallace and knifeyspoony is the same person with 2 computers next to each other logged in at the same time. at 5:54, you both said Denver, and at 5:56 you each said something about the definition of a fraud. I will now take off the tin foil hat, as this clearly is a coincidence, and not a conspiracy.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:05 PM
Gave Mesko nowhere to land. Should’ve been a penalty according to the spirit of the rule, which is to protect defenseless punters. Oh well
January 13th, 2013 at 6:05 PM
“Atlanta took the lead and then onside kicked it”- Jim Nantz.
What the hell is he talking about?
January 13th, 2013 at 6:07 PM
Hou should run the ball with :07 left, then attempt fg
January 13th, 2013 at 6:08 PM
Make up call for all the PI calls that should have been made on the Pats but weren’t
January 13th, 2013 at 6:09 PM
Time ran out, that’s bs.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:09 PM
Well that was stupid.
/John Fox
January 13th, 2013 at 6:10 PM
Yeah Denver duh! My irrational hatred of Houston blinds me.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:12 PM
They did.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:16 PM
You guys putting up a Kenny Britt post? That story is like a Law & Order episode.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:17 PM
texas not shitting the bed long enough to keep me watching
January 13th, 2013 at 6:18 PM
John Fox plays it so safe that he wears a condom when he masturbates
January 13th, 2013 at 6:19 PM
A bed shitting is coming though. I can feel it. Kubes basically owns that routine.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:20 PM
Titans, an organization that evaluates character. Pacman, VY, Britt, Haynesworth
January 13th, 2013 at 6:22 PM
Apparently being an asshole is part of their first rd grading
January 13th, 2013 at 6:25 PM
Big 3rd down here for Texans
January 13th, 2013 at 6:26 PM
How the fuk do you not cover guys as often as the Texans do?
January 13th, 2013 at 6:27 PM
Read somewhere that Britt’s bro was stabbed at a party in NJ. Britt dropped him off at a hospital, while neither will cooperate with police. A short time later, the house that had the party got shot up in a drive by, and there is speculation Britt could be involved in that.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:29 PM
Operation Bed Shitting is a go!
January 13th, 2013 at 6:30 PM
We just pissed the pats off. Like an annoying gnat buzzing around their buttocks.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:30 PM
Guess Houston momentum isn’t what simms and nantz thought it was.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:30 PM
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving owner in Bud Adams.
I hope Bud Adams dies in a fire.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:30 PM
Jeff Fisher loved his high character guys. Dont forget about that bitch CB they gad.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:31 PM
*had
January 13th, 2013 at 6:31 PM
here’s where houston battens down the hatches and goes 3 and out
January 13th, 2013 at 6:33 PM
That wasn’t an onside kick – it was just a shitty squib kick that the front line of SEA got in front of. I thought it was a heady play by the SEA guy.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:33 PM
His 8th encounter with the law?
January 13th, 2013 at 6:33 PM
Bed shitting in progress.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:33 PM
or worse
January 13th, 2013 at 6:33 PM
YESSSSHH!!1!!1
January 13th, 2013 at 6:33 PM
Pimpbot, you from Houston? Only a houstonian can hate butthole Adams like that.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
Operation Bed Shitting Phase II is…. nevermind.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
And I am no New England fan but these officials blow
January 13th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
That forward progress call is a crock of shit
January 13th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
That’s a shitty forward progress ruling – that fumble happened pretty much on initial contact.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:35 PM
That’s fucking horseshit. Forward progress my ads. Must be the same motherfucker from the nfc championship game last year
January 13th, 2013 at 6:35 PM
Yea I know. It was pretty bad though.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:35 PM
Rewound the dvr, forward progress was not called. No whistle
January 13th, 2013 at 6:35 PM
Guys, we are talking about Mike Smith. It was almost certainly an onside kick.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:36 PM
Nice hit on Welkah. Couldn’t tell who it was though.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:36 PM
Good job throwing that away Schaub, the closest upright Patriot was about 10 yards away from you. Rooting for him is maddening.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:37 PM
Big dinner box sounds like a nickname for a slut.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:37 PM
Pats got hosed on that call. Not like it matters. They’ll just score on this drive anyways.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:37 PM
For as much as the NFL talks about getting calls right the list of “unreviewable plays” is pretty lengthy and asinine.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:39 PM
The replay system is so bad only Roger Goodell could oversee it
January 13th, 2013 at 6:40 PM
Points taken away from Pats by that horrible call
January 13th, 2013 at 6:40 PM
The unreviewable calls are pretty bad. Forward progress and fumbles being the worst
January 13th, 2013 at 6:41 PM
The replay system is so bad only Roger Goodell could oversee it
Can’t be any worse than baseball wanting to keep “the human element” from getting taken out of the game. The whole point of replay is to correct the human
elementerror.January 13th, 2013 at 6:41 PM
That was seriously an absolute atrocious call on that forward progress.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:43 PM
Delay of game should be reviewable as well. But, if you make everything reviewable, football games will last longer than baseball games.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:43 PM
What’s worse? Baseball wanting to keep the human element in the game or the NFL having unreviewable plays in which replay is supposed to help in getting the right call made?
January 13th, 2013 at 6:44 PM
Vegas got to Shaub
January 13th, 2013 at 6:44 PM
Matt Schaub has to be the only quaterback in the NFL that instead of extending plays just gives up.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:44 PM
Kazzy just make it part of the coaches challenge like 12 men on the field.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:45 PM
maybe not
January 13th, 2013 at 6:45 PM
Schaub is alternating between making outstanding plays and completely idiotic plays
January 13th, 2013 at 6:46 PM
They have to score on this drive.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:47 PM
What would the ratings be for a Houston/Baltimore AFC Championship?!
January 13th, 2013 at 6:47 PM
I really don’t understand why delay of game is not reviewable. That would be so easy to overturn or not.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
whoever had 6:48 eastern in the bedshitting pool, come get your prize
January 13th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
and they were who we thought they were
January 13th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
How does he not see Nikovich? Wow.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
Schaub took the Pats -9.5
January 13th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
Fucking Schaub.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:50 PM
I assume Schaub thought Ninkovich would be in a trail technique, but Ninkovich peeled off. Definitely an ugly int
January 13th, 2013 at 6:50 PM
Delay of game would be a lot easier to call with a loud buzzer similar to a basketball shot clock.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:50 PM
Schaub and Kubiak. That’s quite the pair right there.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:51 PM
To think we could have at least courted Manning this past offseason.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:51 PM
Texans are woefully unequipped to cover Hernandez
January 13th, 2013 at 6:52 PM
Lloyd, get back to the fockin huddle
January 13th, 2013 at 6:52 PM
Woodhead and Gronk are both out?
January 13th, 2013 at 6:53 PM
Surprised ref didn’t call an unsportsmanlike for Lloyd running towards him too quickly.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:53 PM
Haven’t seen Woodhead in a while, now that you mention it rondo. Vereen and Ridley having a great day though
January 13th, 2013 at 6:54 PM
God, we suck.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:54 PM
And there won’t be no Seattle type comeback for Houston Im thinking.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:54 PM
‘click’, said my tv
go ravens
January 13th, 2013 at 6:55 PM
I really hate this team sometimes.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:55 PM
Hey, The Seahawks were down 20 with about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd. Texans are not of it!
/they’re out of it.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:56 PM
Texans are in a horrible rut – they win just enough that they can’t really do anything about Kubiak or Schaub.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:56 PM
Is Schaub the long term guy in Houston? What’s his contract status?
January 13th, 2013 at 6:57 PM
Texans in four down area once they cross their own 35 IMO
January 13th, 2013 at 6:57 PM
Favre has to have the most career playoff INTs, right? Delhomme might have it for that one game against ARZ though.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:57 PM
Sounds like Norv/Rivers or even Marvin Lewis.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:58 PM
I understand the case for replacing Kubiak much more than I do Schaub
January 13th, 2013 at 6:58 PM
Favre threw 6 picks against the Rams in the playoffs.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:59 PM
Scaub reupped in September on a deal that guarantees him $30 million.
January 13th, 2013 at 6:59 PM
Kubiak should have been out 3 years ago.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:00 PM
I would say he is not the guy, but he is still signed through 2016.
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/matt-schaub/
January 13th, 2013 at 7:02 PM
Schaub is 31 years old in his 6th year with the Texans. He is what he is at this point.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:02 PM
Wow, forgot about that Favre game. 3 of the 6 were for a TD too!
http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=220120014
January 13th, 2013 at 7:03 PM
Foster didn’t get it. He needed to attack the first down, instead he cut a yard or two short. Have some situational awareness
January 13th, 2013 at 7:03 PM
what a bunch of hack frauds
January 13th, 2013 at 7:04 PM
Only his second playoff game and it’d be tough to find anyone better
January 13th, 2013 at 7:06 PM
Yeah that Favre game was hilarious. 6 interceptions with 3 pick sixes!
January 13th, 2013 at 7:08 PM
Probably the most overrated player in NFL history.
“He’s tough and loves to play the game and he’s a gunslinger”
/media’d
January 13th, 2013 at 7:08 PM
Lets throw deep on 4th and short!!!
January 13th, 2013 at 7:08 PM
wtf? run the ball. I don’t know who is worse: shanahan or kubiak?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:08 PM
We talking about the packers rams game in 2001?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:08 PM
Why is this Texan offense not more explosive?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:09 PM
Pats sweep the leg
January 13th, 2013 at 7:09 PM
Love the reaction from belichick on that one
January 13th, 2013 at 7:09 PM
There’s the KO
January 13th, 2013 at 7:09 PM
And with that, all 4 games hit the OVER this weekend.
(All 4 hit the UNDER last weekend)
January 13th, 2013 at 7:09 PM
Really? I do. Kubiak
January 13th, 2013 at 7:09 PM
Brady is just awesome. There does not need to be any debate about him v Payton anymore.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:10 PM
What is scary is this is the Texans peak. They were better last year, but they lost Schaub. The D isn’t anywhere near as good as it was last year but without Schaub they had no chance.
Indy has Luck, the Texans don’t have a lot of room to maneuver IIRC, and basically this is it for them.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:10 PM
Vereen has had a great game. the Patriots seem to like him as some evolved version of Kevin Faulk.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:10 PM
Not enough concept variation in the offense IMO
January 13th, 2013 at 7:10 PM
Kaiser yes. January 2002 see Kazzys link.

January 13th, 2013 at 7:11 PM
Only bet I lost this weekend (assuming NE hangs onto the cover) was that I went with GB on the ML. Otherwise, hit BAL, NE and SEA ATS, hit a sidebet on BAL ML, and hit the over in SF/GB and SEA/ATL.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:11 PM
I think Simms and Nantz are heading down to the field after the game to cock gobble Brady & Bellicheck, they’ll flip a coin to see who gets who
January 13th, 2013 at 7:11 PM
They’ve had a strong personnel dept of late, so I don’t think they’re done
January 13th, 2013 at 7:12 PM
Good job Roeth, did you use your system? Sweet to hit all those bets
January 13th, 2013 at 7:12 PM
I think NE is going to have all they can handle with the Murda crew. They exploit narrow margins in the passing game vs. HOU. I am not sure if that’s all there vs BAL.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:12 PM
Ugh. This is just devastating. Cut Schaub, fire Pubiak. I’m done with these motherfuckers.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:12 PM
Two announcers one cup?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:12 PM
And this game actually goes exactly how everybody thought it would. Houston no score in this half after they got the quick 10 before halftime.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:13 PM
I demand the NE-SF SuperBowl.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:14 PM
Brady and NE have this year and maybe next year as a window before the Browns 2nd dynasty starts.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
Better than the D.E.N.N.I.S. System?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
I win my playoff pool if Pats win that game. (Guessed 28-27 for the score).
January 13th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
No – I typically don’t use it in the playoffs since bye weeks, the Week 17 half-efforts, etc. mess with it. Just went with gut/feel on the matchups
January 13th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
That’s a TD
January 13th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
I think last year they were forced to make a couple of big cuts for financial reasons, I think a much bigger makeover this offseason
January 13th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
Brady and NE have this year and maybe next year as a window before the Browns 2nd dynasty starts.
Didn’t know the Browns ever had a first.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:16 PM
NE will likely exploit Lewis in the middle in coverage, which other teams should have done. You’re going to see Hernandez/Welker and the RB’s running underneath him all game.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:16 PM
Scripty, I think Baltimore will give them more trouble defensively but the pats defense can handle an outside receiver now with talib.
Won’t. I think they can handle rice as well.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:16 PM
Interested to see where Vick and Alex Smith go. Flynn is probably in the mix too.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:17 PM
Does NE use Gronk as a decoy next week? He seemed to re-break his arm falling on it.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:18 PM
Need Gronk to stretch the seam
/sounds more sexual than it is
January 13th, 2013 at 7:18 PM
Wonder if Gronk and Woodhead are ok for next weekend.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:18 PM
If Kubiak had any balls he would onside this shit.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:19 PM
Gronk as a decoy didn’t work so good in the SB.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:19 PM
Way to pad your stats Shaub. Fucking degenerate
January 13th, 2013 at 7:20 PM
That’s what I was thinking, Rondo. Sucks for him that he has been hurt during the most important games the past 2 seasons.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:20 PM
Decoy works only for so long. I mean, it would be great to have him on the field, but if he rebroke his arm that’s risking long term for an offense that does just fine without him.
Get a running game going against the ravens and you’ll see Hernández and the Hawaiian te stretch he seam
January 13th, 2013 at 7:22 PM
Whether or not they can likely decides the game
January 13th, 2013 at 7:23 PM
Why wouldn’t the Pats at least run the ball here? They were averaging 5.0 YPC earlier in the game!
January 13th, 2013 at 7:24 PM
And Giselle misses Floyd deep n the middle
January 13th, 2013 at 7:25 PM
Exactly, I think they can use either screens or flat routes if the run isn’t here. Ravens are aggressive enough well executed screens with the hb will be effective
January 13th, 2013 at 7:25 PM
The Pats have Packers Syndrome. Pass pass pass even if the run is working.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:25 PM
SOP for Pats. Historically, they continue to throw the ball to close out games. It’s where the fraudulent “Patriots run up the score” storylines comes from
January 13th, 2013 at 7:25 PM
Zoltan Mesko. Legend.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:26 PM
Can’t run when they blitz 7
January 13th, 2013 at 7:26 PM
For as good a coach as Belickick is, it’s incredible how little he seems to understand clock management with a lead. Run the goddamn ball.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:27 PM
This Houston has hope thing is cute.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:27 PM
I’ve had Owen Daniels as a fantasy football tight end several of the last years. Watching today I now know why he’s always hurt. Fucking Schaub.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:27 PM
Best player to come out of Michigan since Woodson. May or may not be true, but making fun of Michigan is cheap fun
January 13th, 2013 at 7:28 PM
I typed that before Schaub’s last fratricide attempt.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:28 PM
Schaub is preparing another knee strip fumble of himself.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:29 PM
Wow schaub missing the 12 men on the field ever time the pats sub
January 13th, 2013 at 7:29 PM
One way to look at it. He doesn’t like to go one dimensional early. I can understand/accept both sides of the argument, especially considering the way the Pats are built personnel wise
January 13th, 2013 at 7:29 PM
Why are the Texans huddling up?;
January 13th, 2013 at 7:30 PM
They literally just ran the same play to Daniels twice in a row, and they needed to huddle up to call it. Schaub sucks.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:31 PM
They should immediately cut Schaub tomorrow morning. Following Kubiak’s firing.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:31 PM
FG here is unsavory, but I’d kick it if it comes to that. Keep yourself alive
January 13th, 2013 at 7:31 PM
Trojans: I’m talking late. He’s up four scores. The clock is the only enemy he has left at that point. The only way Houston can win is if you stop the clock with incompletions, and he keeps dialing up throws.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:31 PM
Schaub had a free play and tried to run???
January 13th, 2013 at 7:33 PM
I need a shirt with Kaepernick flexing. That will also be my new move when completing a spreadsheet at work.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:33 PM
Texans don’t know what no huddle is apparently.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:34 PM
PFT saying Gronk done for the year. Thats huge, without him that offense is far less lethal.
Good enough to beat Bal, but not SF.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:34 PM
Eh, they expect run, which is why they put extra men In thebox. The got a good rush on it, which hurried Brady, missing the easy passes.
The line needs to do a better job in those situations, calling run with an at times fumble prone back when 7 are blistering is equally risky
January 13th, 2013 at 7:34 PM
Black Douglas has Texan hate at a high level and it’s hilarious.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:34 PM
I’ve got the Pats -9.5 and a parlay Pats -9.5 and over 51. Won Atl-Sea over 46 and lost falcons -3. Fuck it don’t care, Falcons finally won a playoff game. NFC Champ in the dome next week. Already on Atl +3.5. Fuck it, gotta ride my team. Woooooo, yep I’m drunk.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:34 PM
hahahaha had to look up Schaub’s 40 time after that “rush attempt.”
> 5.0 seconds
January 13th, 2013 at 7:35 PM
Lol lets NOT throw in the endzone. Jesus. No fg???
January 13th, 2013 at 7:35 PM
Good for Foster. Somebody on this team deserves it.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:36 PM
Anyone else play NFL.com playoff fantasy? It’s kind of fun.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:36 PM
@liquor
If it wasn’t for a special teams blown coverage against the 9ers that offense without gronk probably beats San fran
January 13th, 2013 at 7:36 PM
And all the folks that had HOU are rejoicing.
/not me. I didn’t take anything
January 13th, 2013 at 7:37 PM
God dammit – now my cover is blown and I’m back to a push. NE better add a garbage FG/TD – hopefully they go offside to give them field position.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:37 PM
Andre Johnson and AJ Green deserve 75 cents of every dollar earned by Andy Dalton and Matt Schaub,
January 13th, 2013 at 7:37 PM
Already on Atl +3.5.
That’s throwing money down the drain.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:37 PM
Now this is an interesting decision. I think you can kickoff here.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:37 PM
/fan since their inception.
//it’s tough to watch this.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:37 PM
Can someone explain to be why you’d wait to go for two? Isn’t it better to know what you’re going to need sooner rather than later (such as if you went for two on your last TD and didn’t get it)?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:38 PM
Oh my. That’s a dagger.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:39 PM
Pats moved the ball plenty that game. Issues will be whether Pats can pass block SF and avoid being blown off LOS by SF oline. Needless to say, I’m rooting for ATL
January 13th, 2013 at 7:39 PM
Jim Nantz: Ninkovich was a tight end at Purdue! Does Jim know something?
Coop?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:39 PM
Meth you’re right. Pound 49ers!
January 13th, 2013 at 7:39 PM
I forget where the article is, but someone did the math on win % relative to this and there are slight advantages/disadvantages given how much time is left. Really – it was only a few percentage points either way – nothing significant if memory serves.
/I vote for not going for it until you absolutely need it.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:40 PM
And Justin Smith being out and for some reason going to zone let NE back in that game.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:41 PM
Can’t be a focking hold within 5 yds Fockin junk call he’s got 5 yds to chuck him
January 13th, 2013 at 7:41 PM
Valid point. The philosophy is keep yourself in it as long as possible, and that requiring two tds with so little time left essentially ends it. Not a hard and fast rule by any means though
January 13th, 2013 at 7:41 PM
Wow, I think that’s an iffy holding call. These refs have no sense of drama.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:42 PM
They do, they ignored the blatant holding by the Texans on that 2pt conversion
January 13th, 2013 at 7:43 PM
Anyways if they do both win next week it should be a good SB.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:44 PM
I agree, anything but a harbaugh bowl. Please, god.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:44 PM
Who would have thought this thread would approach 300 comments?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:45 PM
Shitty call
January 13th, 2013 at 7:45 PM
Gonna be a hell of a AFC title game.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:45 PM
Fucking Patriots. They better win the Super Bowl at least.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:46 PM
So is it NE @ home next week? -4.5?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
Really exciting 3rd down call and possible FG coming up.
/gambling
January 13th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
Ravens be careful what you wish for. You could be embarrassed with the way this NE offense plays. Any offering a line on that game? NE -7.5?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
Already on Atl +3.5.
That’s throwing money down the drain.
I know. But fuck it, the Falcons can win. Seattle was way better according to the the stats guys. Another west coast team playing an relatively early game…Let me dream. I’m a UGA, Falcons and Arsenal fan. Always good but never good enough.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
Best playoff rivalry this side of Pats-Colts. On the other hand, ATL front seven better come to play, or that’s going to be an ugly game
January 13th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
Why the hell was Gronk playing if there was a chance he could rebreak it just by falling on it?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
Who would have thought this thread would approach 300 comments?
Anyone that sees all the other playoff posts get to almost 300.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:49 PM
Is Gronk already up in da club? He’d better learn that alcohol and porn stars are bad for healing.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:49 PM
Without Gronk I’m thinking -5
January 13th, 2013 at 7:49 PM
Oh I guess I dont pay much attention Meth.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:50 PM
It’s at 7.5 right now at plus money. I think that’s crazy. Baltimore plays NE well. Maybe there’s some Ray Lewis mojo working. I’ve already taken Baltimore catching the points. I’m on Atlanta +3.5 too. That’s probably a fools errand, but a home dog of more than 3?
January 13th, 2013 at 7:50 PM
What is the 49ers odds right now to win the SB.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:51 PM
Found one of the articles relative to this, but I’m not going to link it because there’s obvious errors in it. Regardless, it looks like for most scenarios the Win % going for 2 after the first TD (like HOU did) is about 54%. So, technically they played the math correctly.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:51 PM
Very excited for that garbage FG.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:51 PM
That should come down. I forgot to factor that Pats are probably the most public team in the league now
January 13th, 2013 at 7:51 PM
Meant a home dog of more than 3 for a conference championship game is too enticing. Wonder how many times that’s ever happened.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:52 PM
I was pulling for the fake FG there.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:53 PM
Titties alert at the gold globes!
January 13th, 2013 at 7:53 PM
Come on Pats D. Hang on for the cover.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:54 PM
Texans should be spiking that
January 13th, 2013 at 7:54 PM
If scab PUss up a garbage td right now I Ann going to b slightly upset
January 13th, 2013 at 7:54 PM
Just realized that every team this weekend scored at least 28 points. Lots of scoring, the way the NFL likes it.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:55 PM
Ha ha Phil Seeeeeems didn’t know the score. Idiot.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:55 PM
Stfu Phil, math major
January 13th, 2013 at 7:55 PM
Congrats Roeth
January 13th, 2013 at 7:55 PM
The Texans and Phil Simms are looking forward to the 5th quarter.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:55 PM
Typical Schaub pass.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:57 PM
desperation time, and Schaub goes for the staff stuffer as opposed to the hail mary.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:57 PM
Not out yet. Maybe 3/2. Pats at a probable -150 or something. Guessing Patriots would be a slight fav over SF in a possible SB. Ravens and Atlanta around 4 or 5 to 1. Those are all guesses.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:57 PM
Phil is looking forward to the losers bracket games next week…
January 13th, 2013 at 7:57 PM
AFC title game >>>>>>>>>> NFC title game
These incarnations of Niners and Falcons have no mutual history
January 13th, 2013 at 7:58 PM
Boy NEB doesn’t score a lot of points, but they sure put up a hell of a fight I’m B1G games
/betting info
January 13th, 2013 at 7:58 PM
I think it’s going to get up to 8, 8.5. All Public money coming in on the Pats right now.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:59 PM
Last week not a single team scored more than 24 points. This week not a single team was held under 28.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:59 PM
Assuming no more injuries, I’d go Niners -1.5. Much more complete team, but Pat spreads are always inflated so you may be right.
January 13th, 2013 at 7:59 PM
Caribou, total aberration they are f’ing terrible
January 13th, 2013 at 8:00 PM
Oh that lines going up no doubt. Lot of NE fans out there, they’ll pound that number. May even settle at 8.5-9. What was it last year between these two teams? I believe BAL was a big dog too, covered and almost had a chance to win outright.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:00 PM
Does anyone throw short on third downs more than Schaub? He really does suck.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:01 PM
Tahmy is all class haters…
January 13th, 2013 at 8:01 PM
Sharps are going to pound Balt relentless IMO
January 13th, 2013 at 8:02 PM

Webb, but they’re 3-1 ATS in B1G play. I know they’re junk, but Vegas will adjust to this soon, as well as the unders in these games
January 13th, 2013 at 8:03 PM
Late money will get +9.5 – 10
January 13th, 2013 at 8:06 PM
Caribou, agreed but I don’t think it’s a trend to count on, more of a triple reverse psychological monkey fuck
January 13th, 2013 at 8:06 PM
Apparently everyone has more confidence in Pats than I do
January 13th, 2013 at 8:09 PM
I must be blinded by my Kaepernickism. I see SF as clearly the best team out there.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:09 PM
Waltz.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:10 PM
I give them a slight edge over the Pats. Game in Foxboro was even aside from 349 Pat fumbles. Loss of Gronk is big
January 13th, 2013 at 8:11 PM
Connie Britton. Smoke show.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:11 PM
Pats front 7 matches up best with SF’s ridiculous destruction crew of an oline IMO
January 13th, 2013 at 8:12 PM
It’s their dreamy Michigan Man at QB.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:13 PM
Forgot Brady was younger than Woodson. Excuse my prior comment. Mesko is the best Mich product since Brady
January 13th, 2013 at 8:27 PM
Or no confidence in Atl, lots of worries about a fraudulent Bal team, and a QB in SF that wont play that well again.
Most known of the flawed teams left.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:28 PM
Jake Long and LaMarr Woodley would like a word.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:32 PM
oh my.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:32 PM
Paul Rudd has considerable self control.
January 13th, 2013 at 8:32 PM
I know, I was bustin’ balls when somebody praised Mesko
January 13th, 2013 at 8:34 PM
LaMarr Woodley of 2 years ago, or the one of the past 2 years that can’t stay healthy?
