NFC Divisional Playoff: Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers
From 1995 to 2001, the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers met five times in the playoffs, with Green Bay winning four of them. Aaron Rodgers was a young San Francisco fan at the time. In 2005, when he looked to be a candidate for the first overall pick, his boyhood team had the pick. They selected Alex Smith instead. Here’s video of a local TV interview with a station in San Francisco at the time of the draft.
Aaron Rodgers holds grudges. He uses them to motivate. Earlier this year, he talked about a Cal professor that doubted he would make it in the NFL. He gave a Shhhh! to critics after the demolishment of the Texans. There is no question that this game means a little more team as he gets ready to play a playoff game against the team he grew up rooting for.
This is quintessential playoff slugfest. Both of these teams have looked like the best team in the league when they are playing at their best. San Francisco dominated Chicago, destroyed the Jets and Bills, and went on the road at New England and took it to the Patriots for the first half. They also went into Lambeau to open this year and won. Green Bay went into a primetime matchup and showed why they won a Super Bowl two years ago, and 15 games last season. Let’s sit back and enjoy, because this is going to be a good one.

So pumped for this one. Go Pack! Took the Pack ML, tease and for 7.5 Super Bowl. Thinking this one will be the toughest game if they are going to win the Super Bowl.
January 12th, 2013 at 8:07 PM
Hmmm, in pregame they seem very concerned about the condition of field. To my knowledge, RGIII and His Intractable Knee are not playing today.
January 12th, 2013 at 8:10 PM

January 12th, 2013 at 8:45 PM
Wow why did the Ravens just run it down to 1 second??? Settle for a 50 yarder in the cold?
January 12th, 2013 at 8:46 PM
Nevermind never knew what happened for the start of the 2nd ot
January 12th, 2013 at 8:49 PM
Nevermind never knew what happened for the start of the 2nd ot
Same here but I assumed they got the ball back since they didn’t go for a long shot.
January 12th, 2013 at 8:54 PM

January 12th, 2013 at 9:17 PM
Drinking much tonight Joe?
January 12th, 2013 at 9:17 PM
By tonight, vlad means EVERY night
January 12th, 2013 at 9:20 PM
Tonight its peyote
January 12th, 2013 at 9:20 PM
Incorrect. But I wanna give a healthy fuck you to the NFL for that long ass game that delayed my drinking.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:21 PM
How was taken2? Anyone here see it?
January 12th, 2013 at 9:22 PM
I honestly didn’t think the first Taken was good enough to warrant a 2nd.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:22 PM
/begins to drink
//recommends Adam Carolla’s Mangria to the alcoholics out there. Tastes good and is 20%
January 12th, 2013 at 9:23 PM
Harbaugh doesn’t enjoy a nice headset?
January 12th, 2013 at 9:24 PM
Shockingly bad throw from Rodgers
January 12th, 2013 at 9:25 PM
Shove it. Taken was awesome.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:26 PM
Im sensing a rout. Packers offense no have way
January 12th, 2013 at 9:28 PM
Shove it. Taken was awesome.
I liked the movie. But a second? No thanks.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:29 PM
SF oline is dominating. Not good
January 12th, 2013 at 9:31 PM
Taunting for Kaep. That’s the maturity you look for in a qb. I knew those tats were telling
January 12th, 2013 at 9:31 PM
What was he doing SC?
January 12th, 2013 at 9:32 PM
Ran for a first, got tackled, then spun the ball in the defenders face and yelled at him. 15 yards. Threw a td right after though
January 12th, 2013 at 9:32 PM
I guess he does enjoy the feel of a headset
Crabtree becoming top tier and what a toss
January 12th, 2013 at 9:33 PM
I guess he does enjoy the feel of a headset
January 12th, 2013 at 9:35 PM
Brady Hoke only enjoys the warm feel of a bucket of chicken.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:38 PM
amazing what can happen when you replace a game manager who avoids certain throws like the plague.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:38 PM
Brady Hoke only enjoys the warm feel of a bucket of chicken.
That’s racist. Oh wait…nevermind.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:39 PM
What a dangerous stupid play
January 12th, 2013 at 9:41 PM
Masturbated to the quarterback?
January 12th, 2013 at 9:41 PM
Rodgers. Rolling
January 12th, 2013 at 9:41 PM
Speaking of top tier, James Jones is lighting it up this year
January 12th, 2013 at 9:42 PM
Now THIS may be a classic. I know there’s been two key mistakes but the good has been awesome
January 12th, 2013 at 9:43 PM
These games making up for punishing us with Dalton and Webb last week.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:44 PM
*and Flacco
January 12th, 2013 at 9:45 PM
Hold on Ted Ginn on that scramble…how is that missed?
January 12th, 2013 at 9:46 PM
And schaub
January 12th, 2013 at 9:46 PM
is there anyone happier about Kaepernick replacing Smith than Crabtree? seems like he’s a much bigger part of the offense now.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:48 PM
is there anyone happier about Kaepernick replacing Smith than Crabtree?
Kaepernick is probably happier.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:51 PM
well, right. aside from him though.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:53 PM
lol meth
January 12th, 2013 at 9:53 PM
GB doing a poor job with rush lane discipline
January 12th, 2013 at 9:55 PM
Kaepernick running is killing you GB. If only he played on the East Coast we’d be sick of hearing about him.
January 12th, 2013 at 9:58 PM
Interesting run call on 3rd and 10. Why not throw? Kaep has shown he can avoid the sack. Can’t kill protecting the points, but a surprising call
January 12th, 2013 at 10:00 PM
It’s going to suck when the pats run us out of the building.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:09 PM
And the warm embrace of a 4 or 5 star o-lineman who will one day pave the way to greatness.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:10 PM
Have a little faith. I think it will be a close game. Stop having such a Lion fan attitude.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:12 PM
I’d make a “how does it feel to see the desired Michigan coach dominate the NFL” joke, but the Seahawks are still alive
January 12th, 2013 at 10:13 PM
Until they face the OSU defense. Get real. I understand your upbeat optimism about your highly rated offensive line recruits. OSU is building a defense that won’t care, It’s gonna be an SEC caliber front 7 that will manhandle those fellas.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:13 PM
It’s hard to have faith when you suck. Plus, the big dog already won, won’t happen twice.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:17 PM
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz………………
January 12th, 2013 at 10:21 PM
Denial. Michigan better not lose to OSU tomorrow.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:22 PM
Cobb in at pr now. If they’re willing to use him there, they should’ve started the game with him there.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:36 PM
that was nice. fooled everybody
January 12th, 2013 at 10:36 PM
Is Kaepernick the fastest QB the NFL has ever seen? Faster than a young Michael Vick, even?
January 12th, 2013 at 10:37 PM
Walden way to stay home.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:39 PM
Dom Capers having an ugly day. The size, speed, arm combo from Kaep is quite impressive. Cunningham the closest comp?
January 12th, 2013 at 10:44 PM
run it for 93!
January 12th, 2013 at 10:52 PM
Beat em down!
January 12th, 2013 at 10:53 PM
You give up nearly 500 yds total offense in three quarters, ain’t no mo’ excuses. You deserve to lose.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:57 PM
All of this.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:57 PM
if the Packers score a touchdown here they pretty much have to try an onside kick, right?
January 12th, 2013 at 10:57 PM
I was under the impression that the return of some key personnel would improve the Packer defense. Yet the only time I’ve heard Clay Matthews name tonight was in the highlight showing how well Joe Staley is blocking.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:03 PM
shit I don’t even know if i agree with that punt.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:03 PM
So why did they just punt it again? Oh because the Defense will give them a 3 and out… what the fuck McCarthy.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:06 PM
I really enjoy all the times the camera shows Rodgers unsnap his helmet in frustration rather than doing his stupid fucking belt dance.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:08 PM
Niners reminding me of the Gibbs ‘Skins with the dominant offensive line. Just plug in the rest of the offense from there
January 12th, 2013 at 11:08 PM
50/50. They’re a solid Final Four team, but the B1G is tough. Michigan’s going to lose a few before the regular season is done.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:09 PM
God, kap is unreal. Zone reading like a mofo. Bob griff needs to take notes when he comes back in 2029.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:09 PM
I really enjoy all the times the camera shows Rodgers unsnap his helmet in frustration rather than doing his stupid fucking belt dance.
Looks he’ll be getting to “produce music” a little sooner than he thought he would.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:11 PM
Kaep’s footwork is poor in the pass game, won’t matter much until his legs go though. The coaching mismatch in this game is pronounced
January 12th, 2013 at 11:13 PM
Jesus, why did he punt and basically give any chance of winning away. Your defense gave up 500 yards in 3 quarters, and now expects them to make a key stop… what a putz.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:14 PM
Michigan is really good. It’s amusing to hear Michigan fans saying that their now a better program than MSU. Michigan hasn’t been to a sweet 16 in like 20 years. If they don’t make it to the Final Four it will be a big fail.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:15 PM
Ass whoopin
January 12th, 2013 at 11:15 PM
If I was Alex Smith, I’d be softly humming “Start spreading the news/I’m leaving today…it’s up to you, New York, New York…”
January 12th, 2013 at 11:16 PM
he had to have been the only guy in the entire stadium who expected it to go any differently.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:17 PM
Do they play the 1-3-1? Don’t follow college hoops aside from Uconn. Hate zone defense and remember Beilein using that garbage in the Big East
January 12th, 2013 at 11:17 PM
I hate that bitch on the KFC commercial.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:18 PM
is it that surprising that the defense that gave up almost 500 yards to Adrian Peterson in 3 games can’t handle a really good running QB?
January 12th, 2013 at 11:20 PM
“Game Day bucket go boom!” I’ma use that next week in Wal-Mart, if I can.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:20 PM
gave up almost 500 yards to Adrian Peterson in 3 games
I know it happened. That just doesn’t sound right. 500 yds in 3 games.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:20 PM
If I’m Smith, I look to go anywhere other than the Jets. Buff, KC, Jacksonville, anywhere. Every offense Rex touches turns to stone, qbs especially
January 12th, 2013 at 11:21 PM
the “bucket go boom” one? she has a Kristen bell thing going on. i’d give her the boom.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:21 PM
SROD, careful where you say boom in public, or the only boom boom you’ll be experiencing is from Bubba is Cell Block 6.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:23 PM
Medusa or ELO?
Seriously, if Smith had any hope of ever leading this team again, it’s gone for good. Polish up that resume, dude. KC could be a good landing spot for him.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:24 PM
I don’t even want to know where the Alex Smith tattoo would go.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:24 PM
My brother, who isnt very reliable mentioned that the Cardinals were interested in him for a 1st round pick. That is insane if that happens. The GM in AZ should be shot.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:25 PM
Meth!
I’ve learned my lesson here. I don’t say anything loud in public. All I need is some silly soccer mom to falsely accuse me of menacing, and it’s off to “stir” for me.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:25 PM
Agreed. Andy Reid’s west coast offense would fit Smith’s skills well
Well said
January 12th, 2013 at 11:28 PM
Aaron Rodgers got outplayed by Dobie Gillis tonight. That has to hurt.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:29 PM
wtf is “the croods” and why is it on after the game?
sounds like a dissection of the green bay defensive scheme if you ask me.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:29 PM
Looked like that PI shoulda been against Nelson. As if it mattered now.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:30 PM
The house in Scarface gets me every time. As much as I’d like to knock the movie or mock Pacino’s performance, it’s so ridiculously entertaining. For almost a three hour movie, there are probably only 30 minutes worth of scenes I’ll change the channel for (sister/family), as opposed to an hour that I have no chance of resisting
January 12th, 2013 at 11:31 PM
Yeah kaiser, her. I hope she shits her pants due to KFC eating.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:32 PM
Nice pull. I have a Syrian friend who is a dead ringer for Kaep
January 12th, 2013 at 11:35 PM
at this point we all have to root for anything but the “harbaugh bowl” come super bowl sunday.
for the sake of all mankind, whoever comes out of NE and Atlanta tomorrow better beat the Harbaugh’s next weekend.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:37 PM
Yes, the Manning-Manning SB would be the only worse scenario in terms of media obsession
January 12th, 2013 at 11:42 PM
Giants vs. Jets Super Bowl next year in guess where.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:43 PM
It’s amusing to hear Michigan fans saying that their now a better program than MSU.
Not sure who’s saying that. Izzo still rules the state. Unfortunately for him, the talent level in Michigan was down a bit. It’s turning around and he’ll be kicking ass as usual. He just may not have it as easy around here as usual.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:45 PM
that’s pretty funny, first team in the history of the NFL to make to the super bowl without a starting QB.
that reminds me, I should try to use some of my marketing funds for the NJ super bowl next year.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:49 PM
NYC SB should be a smash hit. Can’t believe it took so long to happen.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:51 PM
I do look forward to the annual freak NJ snowstorm at the start of February that causes mass gridlock and the shittiest SB on record.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:53 PM
Couldn’t be any worse than Dallas acting like snow had just been introduced to the atmosphere
January 12th, 2013 at 11:54 PM
If the SB can survive Detroit and Minny So Tah, it’ll survive that.
January 12th, 2013 at 11:58 PM
The Detroit SB was a success. They should have another SB there before a warm weather climate one.
January 13th, 2013 at 12:03 AM
you’d be surprised how quickly the highways lock up in NJ at the slightest hint of precipitation. no one wants their lexus/bmw/Mercedes c-class to get dinged up.
January 13th, 2013 at 12:06 AM
To be fair, when it is anything but sunny in Dallas, we freak out and turn into tards.
January 13th, 2013 at 12:14 AM
Held a SB, World Series, Stanly Cup Final, and NBA Championship in the same decade.
//Also hosted a Final Four and Ryder Cup
January 13th, 2013 at 12:14 AM
Eh, I went to that one. Not much to do there
Everyone will stay in Manhattan and the amount of plows, etc. will be ungodly. The efforts to make sure it runs smoothly will border on overkill. They know SB in NY will be the standard by which other cold cities (Chi in particular) will be judged.
Sounds like LA. To be fair, wtf are the chances of snow/ice in Dallas, but have to be prepared.
January 13th, 2013 at 12:16 AM
We can’t be prepared for that.
January 13th, 2013 at 12:26 AM
Pretty sure that’s applicable to 75% of the Super Bowls.
January 13th, 2013 at 12:32 AM
Agreed. Which is why the “build a stadium, get a SB” model is trash. I’m for a limited, permanent SB rotation of good cities, a la the BCS. It’ll never happen, but it’d be an improvement.
