Brian Kelly Watch: Second Interview With Eagles, College Football World Awaits His Decision
If Brian Kelly is fishing for a contract extension, he has some stones. The Notre Dame coach interviewed with the Eagles the day after the BCS Title Game. He has a second interview scheduled this weekend. He has also reportedly been contacting NFL people to ask them about the differences between college and the NFL. That said, he’s not the only candidate the Eagles will be interviewing.
Should Kelly leave, is there any better offseason college football story than a ridiculous, panicked mid-January coaching search in South Bend? Bob Stoops does not sound too content at Oklahoma. Charlie Strong had a long chat with Tennessee before staying at Louisville. Would the former Notre Dame assistant reconsider for the Irish? Mike Gundy? Some fools would start Urban Meyer and Pat Fitzgerald rumors. One more job for Chris Petersen to turn down? Could get crazy.

Description of link.
Title from the link.

Why not read the quotes from the story before being that guy and shitting on it?
January 12th, 2013 at 11:46 AM
I read the column, and I really tried to get the context of the link. I understand where you get the “not happy” from, but it sounds much more “not happy because I want to win” than “not happy because fans expect more than conference title”.
I don’t know Bob Stoops, but I think the article could be interpreted either way. In the end, I give the benefit of the doubt to the writer who chose a title which (should) reflect his interpretation of Stoops’ feelings.
I don’t think it’s a completely unreasonable conclusion by you, which is why I presented it without any insult or commentary. I’m just pointing out that the author (and presumably Stoops) may have had a different conclusion than you.

Why? I would just say he’s being proactive and and trying to cash in while his stock is high and he holds all the cards.

Wwos did jump the gun but the quotes dont make stoops sound unhappy just realistic and resigned to fans’ demands. He knows it would be the same everywhere he’d go

ask them about the differences between college and the NFL.
Oh, boy. If that isn’t a red flag.
Mike Gundy?
Gundy could be a God for life at Okie State, but he continues to act like a petulant little bitch. You are an employee, sir. Win a National Title and then maybe you could be entitled to act like you are a Top 5 coach.

What was Duffy wearing when you wrote this?

Which makes going to Notre Dame a no-brainer.
/Not really
How the hell is everyone doing? I’ve been mostly out all week. Damn work making me work. Did I miss anything?

Not sure how panicked it would be. Alford or Diaco may get promoted. Outside that, Strong would probably be the most realistic candidate. Sumlin would be contacted, but it seems very unlikely he would have much interest.

That’s what stuck out to me kc. Seems a bit late to be asking that
Maybe he meant rules….hey Brian you can get 70 yard PI calls in the show!

Wwos, mostly writers don’t write their own headlines copy editors do

For starters, Brian, the games are played primarily on Sundays. And there’s just one bowl game. Also, many of the teams have different names, though they do have Cardinals, just like Louisville. Hope this helps.

FWIW I have heard that Stoops isn’t especially happy in Norman right now. He put some feelers out through his agent back around November or so, and given what he is making (already a lot!) plus the fact he’s had no recent noteworthy success inclines me into thinking he’d listen if called.
January 12th, 2013 at 12:14 PM
I re-wrote that 3 times to make sure it was presented for factual comparison, without comment. Whatever, vez.
January 12th, 2013 at 12:17 PM
If Stoops goes to the NFL, he should be forced to have Sam Bradford as his QB.
/or Jason White
//fuck Jason White

My bad for whatever i got wrong wwos
January 12th, 2013 at 12:31 PM
Totally agreed Vlad. What are they going to do? Fire him? The whiny ND fans already seem to dislike Kelly or be indifferent to him at best.
Yup. Stoops has been mediocre by OU standards for a decade now. Could be time to take his mediocrity elsewhere, where it’ll be appreciated for a few years before he starts doing Bob Stoops things, i.e. losing every big game

Well its harder to cover up the rapes, but easier to kill people.

When Strong passed on Tennessee, my guy in the UofL athletic department, told me he now thought there were only 3 jobs Strong would ever leave for — Florida, South Carolina…and Notre Dame.
I’m not sure if the timing would be right for the move to South Bend, but I’m pretty sure he would talk to them about it (if they were interested too, of course.)
January 12th, 2013 at 12:46 PM
Hell, just give your interns chronic sub-concussive head trauma for 10 years, and they’ll kill themselves.
January 12th, 2013 at 12:46 PM
Good job, Ty
January 12th, 2013 at 12:53 PM
Just happy you guys let me hang out here as i strive to raise my game to flawless
January 12th, 2013 at 12:53 PM
You’re all missing the most obvious choice: Kevin Sumlin.
He played at Purdue (so he has ties to Indiana – sounds like something TBL would throw out there).
But seriously, is there a hotter coach right now? God, I hope this happens. I think the only thing more funny than a South Bend meltdown over a sudden need for a coaching search would be if the Aggies were put in that position.
January 12th, 2013 at 12:56 PM
Indiana just played the best half of basketball I’ve seen anyone play so far this season. Just absolutely dominated Minnesota.
January 12th, 2013 at 1:42 PM
Clearly ND is a stepping stone job at this point.
