I think the general feeling among fans is that because the interview was scheduled before the National Championship game, Kelly was somehow distracted from preparing for the game. Lots of college coaches flirt with the NFL every offseason, that’s not the issue. It’s the timing of it that just seems really bad. I think the idea that as he was getting ready to coach in the biggest game of his life, he was also setting up a meeting to talk about coaching elsewhere, it just seems like a betrayal to fans. I think the epic beatdown the Irish suffered is also causing some of the indifference.

Yeah. Definitely what I said.

They’ve improved a lot since Weis left. Has a much different feel. That defense was so, so, so, so bad when Weis was there.

Oh…they’re much better now. No doubt about that. Kelly has recruited defense very well since he’s been there. But does it really seem that he doesn’t want to be there? Have there been other moments where he flirted with other jobs? I mean, the NFL is calling for an interview. That’s the height of his profession. I’ll never fault a coach for taking that call.
