Steelers Cut Running Back Hours After He Was Arrested for Slapping Girlfriend
Chris Rainey, who just completed his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was arrested this morning in Gainesville, Florida. From the police report:
Witnesses told officers that Rainey and the victim got into an argument over Rainey’s cellphone. The female victim entered the vehicle of Rainey’s roommate, and Rainey confronted her on the passenger side of the vehicle, and began pulling her out of the vehicle. Witnesses then observed Rainey slap the victim across the face with an open hand. Both Rainey and the female victim then fell to the ground. The victim was able to run away, but Rainey chased after her because his cellphone was in a bag the victim was carrying. Rainey grabbed the bag again, and they both fell to the ground again. Neither party suffered visible injuries from the encounter. Multiple witnesses confirmed the incident.
The Steelers wasted no time in cutting Rainey following the arrest. Pittsburgh knew drafting Rainey would be a risky proposition – as fast as he was, the guy also came with a checkered past. Once, at Florida, he was arrested after texting his girlfriend, “Time to die.”

If he wanted to be rooted for, he should have committed a murder…but he was never in it for the glory.

I think it would be great if the Steelers were actually non-hypocritical about this crap. Should have cut Harrison when it happened with him too, but Rainey’s not coming off a POY caliber guy I guess.

His “NFL Think Pink” shirt is still available for sale from the NFL shop
Score a socially conscious and fashionable look you can rock year-round with this Chris Rainey #22 Women’s T-Shirt, appropriate for when it’s time to die and other events.

How did they tell him he was cut? “Chris it’s time to di…-vest yourself of your playbook. You’re cut.”

If the same situation happened to a POY caliber guy to another team in the league, you think they get cut? Fuck. No.

Friends showed up at Neyland few years ago with a sign for him that said Chris Be Stalking. Sadly (not PSU donor sad), CBS chose not to show it on air

Not since Myra Kraft died.

Nope but it’s bullshit to try to act like your a wholesome program if you’re not going to do the same for everyone. I’m a Steelers fan. I’d rather them keep him and put him anger management.

Bitch slap right? Pimp slap is with the back of the hand, right?

I know AP it is a shock. Don’t worry, he’ll be stockpiling those types of players at O-H-I-O State University. You thought the tattoos for autographs/memorabilia was a big news? That’s nothing.

I agree Horse. They don’t show equal treatment for everyone. You would hope that a organization like PIT, that has its shit together on most things, would try to get the young man help and possibly steer him away from something bigger and more potentially dangerous down the road.

It’s more likely this guy is a fucking psycho and this is the first thing that made it to press. In my experience, more often than not, for every thing that gets in the papers there’s usually a few equally rotten things that didn’t.
Also, he sucks balls. He couldnt beat out Dwyer, Redman and BinLadenHall.

Has no business as anything other than a returner. One of the smallest dudes I’ve seen in the league

Dude’s got some dead eyes. No remorse, no contrition.

Studio running back. Actual criminal.

What I don’t get is that you have a backup NT who goes on a drunken rampage on the South Side mid-season racking up felony after felony (including attempting to run over multiple police officers) and he was just suspended for two weeks. Rainey’s idiocy results in a flat out release.
Someone explain this to me.

Enough said.

Hampton is getting old and maybe they hope Alameda Ta’amu’s nasty streak can be channeled. Plus with Polamalu spending more and more time in the training room, they need a name that announcers will stumble over a la Chris Fuamatu Ma’afala.
As for Rainey, they have a stable of equally unimpressive RB’s that can gain 3 yards without getting arrested.

This is the real world son. Guess what, your boss gets away with more than you can get away with too.
