I think recent history has showed that now it seems that going on the road isnt that big of a deal in the playoffs or being the number one seed and having a bye week.

According to the book “Scorecasting”, home field advantage is derived almost exclusively from referees being influenced by the fans. I don’t completely buy this, but they had all sorts of studies supporting their contention. I suppose that one could say that in the postseason, better officials are used, and that they are less influenced by the crowds.

I think recent history has showed that now it seems that going on the road isnt that big of a deal in the playoffs or being the number one seed and having a bye week.

It’s just been weird in that the better teams have dropped an extra game or two costing them the top seeds…going off of stuff like DVOA and SRS runs like the 2010 Packers or 2005 Steelers had aren’t so amazing in retrospect, they probably should have won those games due to being better (and the same would apply to Seattle this year)

So is “rub some dirt on it”. Because of that I too would welcome Lisk doing some sort of analysis of the relative success of defensive minded teams.

I was hoping for a Lisk-like study somewhere. It’s an interesting theory that has some logic behind it, but those don’t always pan out statistically.

It’s an old saying in football. Surprised you haven’t heard it. It could be outdated and Lisk could do some numbers crunching on it I suppose.
