Junior Seau’s Brain Has Been Diagnosed With CTE
Junior Seau had Chronic Traumatic Encephelopathy (CTE), the results of studies on his brain by the National Institutes of Health have revealed. Last year, the 43 year old Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest, just like Dave Duerson had done. Just like Duerson, the results of the brain autopsy revealed that he was suffering from the same brain condition as Duerson and several other deceased former NFL players who have had their brains studied.
His death less than a year ago sent shockwaves around the country and through the football community. Few players played in more games or embodied the ethos of the football player. We will never know exactly what causes any individual to commit suicide, and we won’t know in Junior’s case. The news that his brain was damaged, though, will continue to drive the debate and discussion about how the game needs to, and whether it really can, change.

Wow…seeing this story again brings back the sad feeling I had when I first read it in May of last year. Wasn’t a Charger fan or a Seau fan for that matter, but this story sucks. Just goes to show you that someone can appear happy on the surface but are troubled deep down. RIP sir

Truly sad stuff, never heard a bad word about Junior but his last few years after retiring was def very rocky for him.

Who’s got the brain of Junior Seau?
What’s it mean to us now. Yeah.
Pause, it sounds distrust.
But I can tell you this is no lie. Yeah.
The whole world will be different soon.
The whole world will be relieved.
The whole world will be different soon.
The whole world will be relieved.
Yeah, trust.
You? You’ve been taught, whipped into shape, now they got you in line. Yeah.
Stand behind the stripes. There will be order, so give it a good mind there.
The whole world will be different soon.
The whole world will be relieved.
The whole world will be different soon.
The whole world will be relieved. Woh.
And by name, the name they gave me, the name I’m letting go. Ahh.
The whole world will be different soon.
The whole world will be relieved.
The whole world will be different soon.
The whole world will be relieved.
The whole world will be different soon.
The whole world will be relieved.
The whole world will be different soon.

I am very much on board with that opinion.

You could have done “Where is my mind?” by the Pixies and changed even less of the lyrics.

Often times when free agents sign with the Lions, I can also predict the deaths of their careers.

Ha! You must be more careful with your powers Mr. Fontes Safari.

Proposed edit to title of post: “Man who chose to dedicate his entire life to a violent sport that exposed him to unpredictable collisions at high speeds with some of the heaviest and strongest men in the world on a (near) daily basis for 20 years is linked to a condition that is caused by repeated trauma to the head.”

I’d say about half of the people I know say Yield is #1 or #2. Given to Fly and In Hiding are both in my top five of theirs. The instrumental they built Given to Fly from on the PJ 20 release is cool.

I didn’t mean to suggest this isn’t tragic. And very very sad. It clearly is. I meant only that it is not unexpected, and, thus, it strikes me as a bit false to be morally outraged by it after the fact. Especially when we all enable it by demanding more and more of it (with our checkbooks).
