Hedge fund manager Chris Hansen is leading a group that wants to build the $490 million arena near the existing Mariners and Seahawks stadiums with $200 million in public financing. The public investment would be paid back with rent money and admissions taxes from the arena, and if that money falls short, Hansen would be responsible for making up the rest.

Is it just me or does this sound like something the hedge fund manager’s group already has a planned out for. Like Section 6c Paragraph 4 article b sub-paragraph 3 states that if the average annual economic growth for all portions of the greater Seattle area does not average 87%, the public financing is forgiven.

You’re taking a team from another city with fans of their own. So while it’s not the exact same thing in specificity, it’s the same general principle.

We get how people could think there was some irony, but there really isn’t. Clay bought the team and swore he’d keep them in Seattle, even though their ownership group was trading emails laughing about how they were going to move the Sonics. The Sonics were in an arena that 14 years earlier was touted as state of the art by Stern. Stern fought Seattle, offered no support because he had lots of anal sex with Clay. So, really, not ironic, at all. But thanks for really looking into it.
