Tajh Boyd is Staying at Clemson for His Senior Season, Tigers Potentially Loaded for BCS Run
Tajh Boyd, in a bit of a surprise, has decided to stay at Clemson for his senior season.
Boyd, who capped a strong junior year by passing for 346 yards, accounting for three TDs, and leading the game-winning scoring drive against mighty LSU in a New Year’s Eve bowl game, could have been an early-round draft pick.

In a down year for QBs – Matt Barkley’s been hurt, Geno Smith struggled in the second half of the season; nobody else has stood out – Boyd (6-foot-1, 220) could have snuck into the first round. He might remind some of Russell Wilson, who is tearing it up in Seattle.
[Previously: 2013 College Football Top 20: Clemson 18.]
In three categories, Boyd’s stats were up significantly this year – completion percentage, yards-per-attempt and QB rating – and he was throwing to two future NFL receivers in DeAndre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins (the latter of whom definitely returns next year).
Boyd has four offensive lineman returning, and if Hopkins stays for his senior year, this could be one of the best offenses in the country. Chad Morris is a brilliant offensive mind, and with the right season, probably positions himself for head coaching opportunities in 2014.

Clemson will go Clemson as usual.
January 9th, 2013 at 1:59 PM
Probably, Vlad.
I do love Chad Morris. Guy has some of the most creative plays in football.

Sonics post?

he has had a quick rise. not too long ago, he was putting together an unstoppable offense at Lake Travis High.

Clemson just needs to add J.R. Smith
January 9th, 2013 at 2:08 PM
They’re coming back?
January 9th, 2013 at 2:09 PM
Will be fun to send Tajh Boyd off with an 0-4 record vs the Gamecocks.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:10 PM
I tend to think he’s coming back because, no, he could not have snuck in the first round…and he was very aware of that fact.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:11 PM
does boyd play defense?
January 9th, 2013 at 2:11 PM
Lot of reports saying the Maloofs have agreed to sell to the Seattle buyer group.

Is this the Curling’s Continental Cup preview post?

I have been led to believe he would have been the #1 QB coming out this year, was that incorrect?

Good bye to the Kings and welcome back Sonics? That would be quite awesome
January 9th, 2013 at 2:16 PM
I haven’t seen a single mock other than J-Mac’s that suggested Boyd was a 1st rounder…and even then, he had him as the 3rd QB.

Another Jimmer dancing post!!!

As Mel Kiper said today…”Tajh Boyd made a very smart decision.”

Another Jimmer dancing post!!!
When you put it that way I lose all of my enthusiasm.

What happened to Virginia Beach? Do the Maloofs even have anymore money?

@JayV…just messing around, I think it was a commenter that said that.

Don’t think the financing on that deal was ever legit/secure.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:19 PM
Hopkins is gone. Clemson will be great on offense in 11/12 games (SoCar will once again own them) but I suspect they’ll lose 3ish like usual).
January 9th, 2013 at 2:19 PM
Lewan announcing tonight.
//No way in hell he comes back.

Though this should hammer home College Gameday being in Clemson for the UGA game. I mean, they’ll end up going to the Ga Dome to see Bama whip Va Tech, but they SHOULD be in Clemson. Luckily for UGA that game will be a day game I would think. TCU-LSU and Bama-VT will be at night.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:22 PM
It’s alright. Kyle Kalis will fill in and continue his predicted dominance of OSU.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:22 PM
In terms of his demographic and expected earnings at that age this is categorically false.

still will never bet on clemclem.
learned this the hard way

Black QBs who will be drafted in the NFL?
January 9th, 2013 at 2:25 PM
You’re pretty excited by Game Day aren’t you?
January 9th, 2013 at 2:25 PM
So happy UGA has 4 months to prepare for this game. They literally have zero excuses not to be prepared for the pace at which Clemson will play.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:25 PM
I rarely watch it, but it’s undeniable that it helps programs recruit.

The chance to meet Will and Ravi? Who WOULDN’T be?

Bray, Patterson, Hunter and some dude named Darrington Sentimore (DL) announce they’re gone.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:30 PM
Where does Tyler Bray rank with other QB’s coming out?
January 9th, 2013 at 2:31 PM
About zero people that age will have a job offer starting at $300,000 plus three years into college.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:31 PM
NFL guys will love his size and arm, but he has a 10 cent brain with his $100 body, and if you can’t win in college with his OL and WRs, I’m not sure if I would want anything to do with you in the NFL.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:34 PM
So….Raiders?
Want the Panthers or Racists to get [Stupid Name] Patterson, if he can work on consistency catching the ball he will be fantastic.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:36 PM
He’s a stud. Still pisses me off that Dooley got him away from Richt.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:38 PM
Pretty sure it’s deniable.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:40 PM
Sure, I guess. Much in the same way gravity is deniable. You can deny anything and be wrong I suppose.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:44 PM
speaking of recruits did y’all see saban talk about where he puts his NC title baubles?
idk, he said, probably just leave em out for recruits to see
January 9th, 2013 at 2:46 PM
I have yet to see a kid at a press conference with five hats in front of him, pick one up, place it on his head, and say “I’m going to “X” State because Lee Corso once put on a mascot head in their parking lot.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:48 PM
Seriously? That’s what you think I meant? If your school is getting 2 games or so as the Gameday game that means you’re getting an insane amount of free advertising for your school the week leading up to the game and on game day. Coaches sell that to kids. They talk about being on TV in the marquee spots. So does it help? Of course it does. Saying otherwise if fucking retarded.
January 9th, 2013 at 2:59 PM
These prized recruits have been exposed beyond belief to these programs since their early high school years. They constantly have coaches calling them, attend many on campus camps in the Summer, and are treated like their $10,000,000 year donors. I highly doubt that because some drunk college kids and dopey middle aged guys are standing around holding up signs it’s somehow going to influence their decision on where to go.
January 9th, 2013 at 3:01 PM
Agree to disagree about Gameday being a good thing for recruiting purposes.
January 9th, 2013 at 3:04 PM
Fair enough.
