Notre Dame-Alabama TV Rating: 15.7 Overnight, Highest Number for Cable TV in Two Years
Alabama 42, Notre Dame 14, was a laugher, and as a result, it won’t come close to being the highest-rated BCS Championship game of all-time. ESPN announced the overnight rating was a 15.7, which was up 14 percent from last year’s Alabama-LSU snoozer.
That’s the largest cable TV rating in two years (the Auburn-Oregon 2011 BCS title game drew a 16.1). What stinks for ESPN (and football fans) is that the ND/Alabama rating peaked from 9-9:15 pm, according to a network spokesman, which makes you wonder what might have been if the referees had given Notre Dame that fumble on the punt return in the 1st quarter. The Tide were better from start to finish, but that blown call obviously hurt the Irish.
Not taken into account: The number of viewers who weren’t watching, but got text messages from friends about AJ McCarron’s girlfriend, and decided to tune in.

I know what would’ve happened if ND would’ve got that fumble. Bama would’ve won 42-17.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:09 AM
Hilarious. Totally makes me wonder how ND would have not scored with such great field position.

God I miss cable.

Seeing Winona in the previews for the new Kevin Bacon show on FOX was a nice reminder that she’s no longer around there
January 8th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
I’m intrigued by that show.

She never bothered me much. She was hardly ever in the show. I will agree that the story arc where she stole the money from the evidence room was the weakest thing about the series. It didn’t make any sense. But she is gone. Sadly, so are Dickie and Dewey.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:17 AM
You mean if they had made the wrong call? Or are you ignoring the rules? Or you are in the camp of saying it was the refs that caused the mollywhopping and not ND being overmatched?
January 8th, 2013 at 10:17 AM
I would say Longmire has done a good job copying kind of what Justified has, all though Longmire is far more procedural.
/still enjoy it though
January 8th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
Dickie is gone? That blows.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
They’re still alive, right? Just in jail? There’s always hope…and you should always say Dewey Crowe in full as Raylan would want you to
January 8th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
I started watching it a couple months ago, finally got caught up yesterday. Pretty damn good show although there is something about it that seems off about it. I think I will prefer watching it week-to-week.
I don’t mind her either but agree. That money storyline was terrible.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:20 AM
I turned it off after it was 14-0. I imagine a lot of folks did the same pretty soon after that.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:20 AM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA…..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH…HA..Ha…HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.
Alabama
“Yea, Alabama!”
Yea, Alabama! Drown ‘em Tide!
Every ‘Bama man’s behind you;
Hit your stride!
Go teach the Bulldogs to behave,
Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave!
And if a man starts to weaken,
That’s a shame!
For ‘Bama’s pluck and grit
Have writ her name in crimson flame!
Fight on, fight on, fight on, men!
Remember the Rose Bowl we’ll win then!
Go, roll to victory,
Hit your stride,
You’re Dixie’s football pride, Crimson Tide!
/Fuck off with this nonsense noise
//Actual drunk, shiftless, anemic Irishman could have played better
January 8th, 2013 at 10:21 AM
I kept watching because the beatdown was enjoyable to me, and twitter was hilarious.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:22 AM
The show needed Raylan to move on from Winona. You have her there for the first two seasons to show his backstory and move on to him banging strange on the reg. The show is at it’s best when it focuses on Raylan and Boyd’s relationship.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
I made it to 35-0 and then went to bed. Though I was basically watching Te’o the entire time laughing at the thought of him being a Heisman finalist. Him sucking was without a doubt the best part of last for me as I’ve felt he was so overrated his entire career. Watching Bama roll was what it was, though. Just sucks knowing how close my team was. I’m sure LSU fans feel the same.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
People who watched online via ESPN3 or other (illegal) streaming sites. You’ve never taken this into account. It’s lazy.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
The call was only correct in the sense that the refs missed the block in the back that caused the ND player to interfere. Had they properly called the block in the back, the kick catch interference wouldn’t be called and it would’ve been ND ball.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:26 AM
LOL. Digging in those heels, I see.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:26 AM
They’re still alive, right? Just in jail? There’s always hope…and you should always say Dewey Crowe in full as Raylan would want you to
The showrunner said they will be back in future seasons, but not this season. Of course, he also said this in an interview…
“As for some of the returning favorites, Yost pointed out that nothing had yet been written for either Dickie Bennett (Jeremy Davies) or Dewey Crowe (Damon Herriman), but he’d of course be thrilled to have them back.”
And Jeremy Davies still had that crazy hair at the Emmys of which everyone assumed he was shooting scenes.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:28 AM
Justified is a fun show. It’s impressive that they came back after the Margo Martindale season with equally intriguing storylines and villains.

how long have you been without. I’m ditching mine tomorrow. do you have any issues with watching live sports? I’m going with Roku, not real sure after that though. I don’t watch a ton of TV, so I’m not real concerned, but I think I will find stuff that I miss.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:29 AM
Milk, the interference wasn’t on the first guy that blocked into the returner’s area, it was because the second guy coming in hit the returner before the ball hit the ground. The returner has to have a chance to recover the bobble while it is in the air.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Before people used to finagle a free signal with their Rabbit ears to get television. Today the Rabbit Ears are fucking awesome, I will not be a consumer activist for their obsolete business model and internet ruining schemes those cunts.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:31 AM
By the way, the Justified/Archer mashup was one of the best things ever. Such a great episode.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:32 AM
Buy it off Amazon. $1.83 an episode
January 8th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
/Shouldn’t that go on your pinterest page brah?
//ms621 is waiting for you
January 8th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
I have a Watch ESPN password and an Apple TV, so that’s nice, but it’s hardly ideal. Over the air HD is great, though I miss the DVR the most. I forgot how rarely (if ever) I watched things when they aired.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
There are always torrents. God bless eztv.it!
January 8th, 2013 at 10:37 AM
but that blown call obviously hurt the Irish.
i think the irish being the irish and playing alabama hurt ND more.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:38 AM
Can’t believe I used to sit thru all those damn commercials before DVR came out. What a shitty way to watch tv. I rarely watch live tv anymore. Always come in 20 minutes after the recording has started so I can skip all the commercials.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:39 AM
Roku will severely limit what you can do in terms of live sports. All those plugins/entertainment boxes will. You are much better off getting a laptop (super cheap one with a cracked screen, who cares it’s permanently hooked up to your TV) and just watch everything using the Chrome Browser with a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Utter nonsense, $1.83 an episode and 90% goes to Apple. Fuck that.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:44 AM
Which makes you wonder who would have been playing Bama had the refs given Stanford that OT touchdown or not given Pitt that phantom INT call.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:45 AM
Oregon-Bama would have been wonderful.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:45 AM
I enjoyed looking at her. Eased the pain of the storyline. I just want Boyd to blow something up, is that too much to ask
January 8th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
Yes, how dare a cable channel charge for a show through a third party vendor. The nerve of them
January 8th, 2013 at 10:47 AM
The fiancee made me get the most basic, non-HD/non-ESPN cable package when we moved into the new place. That lasted exactly 1 month and $49.88. I refuse to pay for a bunch of horsesh*t just to catch something I actually enjoy. Jailbroken aTV and a laptop with bookmarked torrent sites FTW. You (likely) pay for an internet, use it.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:47 AM
agreed, fuck those guys
January 8th, 2013 at 10:48 AM
awesome news, Southland on TNT starts next month too I think
January 8th, 2013 at 10:48 AM
Just insisting themselves as an unnecessary middle man with an obtuse format. Buying from Apple does not support the creators in any real sense. I don’t begrudge them trying to charge, just stupid of people to buy.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:49 AM
How does this work, and what are the benefits of it?
January 8th, 2013 at 10:51 AM
One of these days Soused and I are going to turn on streams on VIPbox and it will be a camera feed into the other’s eyes and the world will implode upon itself.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:53 AM
sousedbergin, whatever you tell yourself to feel better. Bottom line is that people are putting their money and time to make a show and you are swooping in to steal it.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:53 AM
appreciate it Soused, I’ve got a laptop I plan on hooking up as well, mainly got the Roku so I didn’t have to move around the laptop, and hopefully not put as much wear and tear on the computer.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:53 AM
I thought we already did that? Wait, who the hell have I been beating off with?
January 8th, 2013 at 10:53 AM
Love my Roku. Have Watch ESPN for live sports that’s not too bad. Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu for anything current. If I really don’t want to pay for a show, I go here.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:54 AM
The National Officials Coordinator said on the air the punt interference was a good call; but what does he know?
January 8th, 2013 at 10:55 AM
But the way y’all act, you’d swear that half the country was going to watch this game just because Notre Dame was in it! And yet other games with teams that don’t have “national followings” beat them.
It’s the same with the NFC East mythology. One of their primetime games (like Eagles-Cowboys this year) gets shitty ratings and you make excuses for them.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:56 AM
I just got a terabyte external last night so my torrenting is about to go through the roof again. I’m now up to 3 TB storage total.

how long have you been without
forever
January 8th, 2013 at 10:59 AM
1. TV bought the show and paid for it, they try to earn money by selling ad space. Creators already got paid (make more in syndication blah blah).
2. Giving Apple 90% for a show that had nothing to do with does not make you morally superior, it makes you a cunt for supporting nonsense.
3. Lesson of Louis CK is that no one learned anything from him, content creators can go directly to market, option without middle men.
4. I will only watch Ads if you pay me.
5. SOPA and PIPA those companies can sincerely fuck off, they tried to destroy the industry I work in because they refuse to alter their business model. I should inconveniently buy their shitty products out of pity?
January 8th, 2013 at 11:01 AM
My favorite tweet from last night was:
Can you imagine if they cut to AJ’s girlfriend in the second half and Johnny Football was sitting with her?
January 8th, 2013 at 11:02 AM
LSU fans had to live 1/9 all over again last night, we’re not in a very coherent state.
January 8th, 2013 at 11:03 AM
But ya, fine line between BCS title game and losing the Heterosexual Chicken bowl to fucking Clemson.
January 8th, 2013 at 11:06 AM
Keep on fucking that chicken
January 8th, 2013 at 11:07 AM
1. TV bought the show and paid for it because they expect to make it back thru ad and dvd sales. Enough people illegally download these shows, they’ll stop buying them or buy them at cut-rate price. Hurting thousands of ancillary employees in the process.
2. Perhaps. But studios and Apple made a deal. If studio is okay with how much they are getting paid, who am I argue.
3. True. No doubt that industry needs to change to keep up with reality of internet. Still doesn’t give me the right to steal their product.
4. Fair enough.
5. No, you don’t have to buy anything. But just because you don’t agree with someone’s business practice, doesn’t mean you get to steal their product.
January 8th, 2013 at 11:09 AM
YOur name should be Bitternus
January 8th, 2013 at 11:15 AM
No one, no one wants DVDs. Fucking no one, thieves to do not want them.
If I have HD Rabbit Ears I get the show for free right? I will never purchase a show that I don’t watch, yes? The only way I can begin to be interested in purchasing any media is by experiencing it. Just as no one sits by the fucking radio all day to hear new songs I am not going to pay $100 monthly to watch 33% commercials confined to their time slot schedule. It’s a shitty, shitty serivce and proceeds from the sale of those services threatens my livelihood with shady legislation and monopolization. Since when is the consumer beholden to the obsolete product type? If someone started charging for air would you pay for that too? I pay for the internet and will use it as I see fit. Go churn butter you cunt.
January 8th, 2013 at 11:19 AM
LOL. Like I said, whatever you tell yourself to feel better as you steal stuff.
January 8th, 2013 at 11:31 AM
I was listening to a podcast the other day (I think it was Sepinwalls). They had seen the first two Justified episodes and said that while there’s no Big Bad, there’s an overarching mystery element involving Arlo that factors prominently into the mythology. So that’s pretty exciting.
Rewatching S2 the other day. Just so, so good.
