ESPN Issues Apology For Brent Musburger Going “Too Far” About A.J. McCarron’s Girlfriend Katherine Webb
Katherine Webb nearly broke the Internet last night when ESPN’s Brent Musburger introduced A.J. McCarron’s girlfriend to America during the National Championship Game. Today, ESPN is apologizing for the extra attention Brent paid to the former Miss Alabama. From ESPN’s Mike Soltys:
Have been asked on focus on @_KatherineWebb in BCS: We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.
I guess that’s the professional thing for ESPN to do. They can act like a news organization and present the viewers with the facts about who the players are dating, but should probably leave the commentary to the Internet.
Edit: In my rush to get this post done, I neglected to point out how ESPN put Musburger in the position to be commenting on McCarron’s mother and girlfriend. The graphics were made by the production team and the cameras were obviously told to focus on Webb. Oh well. ESPN doing ESPN things.
As a reminder, it ABC and Brent Musburger that discovered Jenn Sterger. Why get mad at Musburger for saying what ever red-blooded American male is thinking?

Yeah I’m sure a former beauty queen absolutely hated the attention she got.
January 8th, 2013 at 3:58 PM
I really didn’t think he was out of line whatsoever. A little much, but a big deal over nothing.
January 8th, 2013 at 3:59 PM
Brent’s only crime here is that he didn’t have a clever one liner queued up like he did for the Sterger clip.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:00 PM
Someone reported during the game that her twitter follower total had like sextupled. I’m sure she’s unhappy about that.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:00 PM
Besides I’d consider McCarron’s girlfriend a good erection builder but not a great looking girl.

January 8th, 2013 at 4:00 PM
Put her on camera extensively for what reason?
“OK everyone for the next 30 seconds you will be watching AJ McCarron’s significant other, who is interesting.”
January 8th, 2013 at 4:00 PM
I bet that girl’s agent made an offer to help pay off Brent’s gambling debt before the game.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:02 PM
No problem with what old Brent said. He and Herbie were funning and no more.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:03 PM
She had quite the derpy look on her face every time they showed her.
Yes, she’s hot, I’m just saying. I want to hear the conversations between her and Mr. “brought 30 pairs of shoes to Miami” McCarron.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:04 PM
Because she’s exceedingly hot. What more reason is needed?
January 8th, 2013 at 4:05 PM
Meh, let me know when they apologize for Stuart Scott, Playmakers, Stump the Schwab, and Tom Mees’s lack of buoyancy.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:07 PM
Bring back Stump the Schwab.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:07 PM
Ridiculous. This was the only story line that was interesting last night.
Wayne – Stump the Schwab was awesome! Just seeing which obscure throwback he was going to wear was worth tuning in.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:07 PM
Bring back Stump the Schwab.
And make Kenny Mayne the host.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:08 PM
All it needed was a better host and it would have been the best game show this side of Jeopardy (all apologies to the $100,000 Pyramid)
January 8th, 2013 at 4:08 PM
/Has seen the Schwab at a University of Hartford basketball game
//No, really

January 8th, 2013 at 4:09 PM

January 8th, 2013 at 4:09 PM
what ever happened to the Schwab? heart disease?
January 8th, 2013 at 4:09 PM
Poor Uncle Brent bet on ND. His bookie was jamming to this all night.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:09 PM
Tough talk from a company that has a link about her on their front page.

I really miss the days when ESPN was about sports and sports center actually showed highlights. ESPN used to be the Wall St Journal of sports now its US Weekly.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:11 PM
Exactly.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:11 PM
He would always gleefully talk about the horrible foods he was eating. Always appeared to have food stuck in that goatee.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:12 PM
What’s really sad is Brent didn’t even mention the size of DeeDees rack.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:12 PM
All those bags of chips on First Take did him in.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:13 PM
i like his mom more.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:13 PM
I remember that, but cannot place the name.
I used to watch “2 minute drill” from around the same time period.

He had a pretty bad temper when he lost too. I can’t imagine his blood pressure was very good.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:13 PM
I blame the director and producers more than Brent. Fuck ESPN.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:15 PM
Are they going to apologize for showing them hugging on camera?
/hope not, cause that was awesome
//dear penthouse…
January 8th, 2013 at 4:16 PM
I’m just hoping Brent hangs around long enough to go on the sexual equivalent of Jimmy the Greek’s speech
January 8th, 2013 at 4:16 PM
They should apologize for Chris Berman’s entire career.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:17 PM
Gawker commentors dissecting Webb is making my head spin
January 8th, 2013 at 4:18 PM
ugh, really?
January 8th, 2013 at 4:21 PM
i like his mom more.
This is almost as creepy as Musberger’s remarks last night.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:29 PM
That is a stunningly beautiful women, though.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:30 PM
just asked the wife: “Inappropriate.”
January 8th, 2013 at 4:31 PM
So you’ve been able to keep what you do for a living a secret?
January 8th, 2013 at 4:31 PM
Ooooooooh soory, the correct answer is Rock and Roll Jeopardy. What is, Rock and Roll Jeopardy.
/would’ve won a million damn dollars on that show

There was absolutely NOTHING inappropriate about what Brent said. There is much worse crap out there than that. I didn’t even think it was creepy.

you on the shit again?
January 8th, 2013 at 4:38 PM
Yeah, Musburger was pretty pervy with his comments…I was afraid he was gonna go Strom Thurmond on her and start offering her candy…
January 8th, 2013 at 4:40 PM
*looks at sidebar full of posts about McCarron’s mom and girlfriend*
Nah, nah.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:40 PM
It seemed extra long because he commented about her then the second comment was for Herbie …all you QBs get… I didn’t seem bad to me when I listened again
January 8th, 2013 at 4:42 PM
I also asked my wife, who just so happened to be by my side watching the game last night. Her response: “Are you sure that happened last night? I think that was a few weeks earlier.”

January 8th, 2013 at 4:43 PM
Musburger came off like a dirty old man. Shut the fuck up already. I thought he was about to bust off on national tv. It was stalkerish.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:46 PM
Like what someone said earlier, what the fuck is he supposed to say when they keep putting her on camera? They did it because she’s hot, and they got what they were looking for. ESPN can fuck off already.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:46 PM
They should apologize for the “body issue” every year then
January 8th, 2013 at 4:49 PM
Jeebus, nothing even remotely off about what he said. He fucking commented is all, while trying to be a little entertaining at the same time. Lighten up Francis.
January 8th, 2013 at 4:56 PM
How exactly did he go too far? He didn’t exactly say he would drink her bath water.
January 8th, 2013 at 5:32 PM
Manziel got the Heisman, but McCarro got the goods.
January 8th, 2013 at 5:50 PM
I guess you guys missed the part when he said he would eat that thing like puppy chow.
January 8th, 2013 at 5:52 PM

I can’t believe Mr. Musburger is a naughty boy.
