BCS Title Game: Notre Dame vs. Alabama
The BCS Title Game is upon us. We presume Alabama brought the Crimsonettes. You might see one of these classy Notre Dame t-shirts floating around. A.J. McCarron has his national title-winning outfit and hairdo. Mere polkadots away from Pee Wee Herman. #BowTide
Preview: We previewed this game earlier. We would love to believe Notre Dame can end the SEC monotony. Until someone has something beyond hunches, Alabama -9.5.
History: Two storied programs. Here are the best Notre Dame and Alabama players from the past 30 years. Not all of those fellows were criminals.
Not Suspended: Alabama’s Quinton Dial was not suspended for this hit on Aaron Murray in the SEC Title Game. Discipline was handled internally. Shocker.
Everything McCarron: The dapper A.J. McCarron is dating 2012 Miss Alabama Katherine Webb. He’s not above signing a boob after an SEC win. His mother Dee Dee Bonner seems like fun.
Linkage: This guy from the New Republic is not too impressed with Nick Saban. Three BCS titles in four years? Let’s see you do it in the NFL, jerk. Tries to exert an undue amount of control? It’s not like he forced a hotel to ban ESPN or anything… Jesse Williams has an interesting story. Chance Warmack’s stomach has its own twitter account. Notre Dame safeties’ coach Bob Elliot has been working without functioning kidneys.

Bama 27-10 with a garbage time TD.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:11 PM
Never bet on a title game unless you think it’ll be a rout. A bit too fluky.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:12 PM
HO-LEE SHIT, Lou Holtz has become unintelligible.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:13 PM
Roll Tide. Corso is an embarrassment.
24-20, Bammer.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:13 PM
?
January 7th, 2013 at 8:13 PM
Love the fact that Urban Meyer took ND, plus Lee Corso did too. Expect a physical game upfront. Matching ALA off line vs. ND front seven on defense. I got it close 25-18, with the game coming down to the final minutes in the 4th. Believe me, I would rather see a Bama blowout, but I don’t think the ALA defense can completely shutdown the Irish.
Roll Damn Tide

I guess I hadn’t heard him talk for more than 3 seconds in nearly 2 years. His lisping has gotten WAAAAAAY worse.

If you are bored tonight, in the Erin Heatherton thread, some guy came in at the bottom with the name of Greg Little’s ladyfriend. Worth a look.

January 7th, 2013 at 8:34 PM

Lacy…touchdown. Hello.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:35 PM
all day baby. all day.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:36 PM
TD Eddie Lacy. Wow. The offensive line blew open that hole and walked right thru.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:38 PM
ND getting completely blown up at the line.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:38 PM
Only if they trade down.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:39 PM

January 7th, 2013 at 8:40 PM

January 7th, 2013 at 8:41 PM
o/u on 1st Kelly tantrum on sideline?
January 7th, 2013 at 8:43 PM
Tough call. He seemed to have it initially, but then juggled it going out of bounds. I’d give him a catch

January 7th, 2013 at 8:48 PM
Hochuli’s crew is working this game too? Trainwreck
January 7th, 2013 at 8:48 PM
Thanks, agoodfella. Way to live up to the name.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:48 PM
If anything that was a block in the back. As per usual, the SEC didnt take any chances and made some referees holidays extra special.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:48 PM
If bama goes up 14-0, good night
January 7th, 2013 at 8:49 PM
good morning, goodfella

Good night, A.P. Good night, ND.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:53 PM
Do a shot every time Herby says “be able to”.
Drunk by half.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:53 PM
I guess was ruling that the defender was too close to the Bama player caching the ball. It’s a judgement call by the ref. if this is a 41-17 game, I don’t want here about the call. If its a one score game, then I understand
/hoping for the blowout
January 7th, 2013 at 8:53 PM
Game over. Might put a movie in
January 7th, 2013 at 8:54 PM
Bye bye Notre Dame.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:54 PM
Looks like I won’t be sleep deprived tomorrow.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:54 PM
Buck fama.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:54 PM
I got no dog in this fight but a 49-3 beatdown would be uproarious.
Notre Dame has returned … to getting beatdowns in bowl games.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:54 PM
Typical SEC v non-SEC talent mismatch
January 7th, 2013 at 8:54 PM
This is grrrrrrrrreat.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:55 PM
I wonder if this Gatorade commercial will be the last time we see RGIII run like that
January 7th, 2013 at 8:55 PM
Well, this one’s over. I thought the ND defense was supposed to be good? Good thing that Te’o didn’t get the Heisman.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:55 PM
So this ND front 7 is the best in the nation?
January 7th, 2013 at 8:55 PM
what a bunch of bullshit. 2 calls against the Irish ruined this one.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:55 PM
with 2% of the precincts reporting, i’m going to go ahead and call this one for alabama

January 7th, 2013 at 8:56 PM
WOW.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:56 PM
theres about, oh, I don’t know, 55 minutes left?
January 7th, 2013 at 8:56 PM
Turns out shutting down OU and fraudulently beating Stanford wasn’t that impressive
January 7th, 2013 at 8:57 PM
RGIII trains on Subway sandwiches. He’ll be fine.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:57 PM
And having Pitt miss a gimme FG in overtime at home.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:57 PM
ND wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the bad call on the Stanford TD in OT.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:57 PM
The only way I could win the bowl thingy was to switch Bama to ND. I had no faith in that, but win or GTFO is my philosophy. It just gives me another reason to hate Notre Dame.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:58 PM
/flips through record book, looks for most lopsided loss ever.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:58 PM
Fumblllllle…Bammer recovers.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:58 PM
The call on eifert was the correct call..the punt call is a judgement call so tough to really bitch about that.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:58 PM
so…
bbq talk or music talk?
January 7th, 2013 at 8:58 PM
This secondary is susususususussssssspect
January 7th, 2013 at 8:58 PM
Knee down. Never mind.
January 7th, 2013 at 8:59 PM
THE REFS ARE BLOWING NOTRE DAMES FRONT 7 OUT OF THE STADIUM!!!
January 7th, 2013 at 8:59 PM
He was down. No fumble. These refs are like the Keystone Kops
January 7th, 2013 at 8:59 PM
Music talk
alt J: yes or no? fucking love their debut album
January 7th, 2013 at 8:59 PM
Why didn’t they review that earlier punt return fumble?
January 7th, 2013 at 9:00 PM
SC 55 OU 19 comes to mind
January 7th, 2013 at 9:00 PM
They might win 100 to 3.
/Arkansas fan girl
January 7th, 2013 at 9:00 PM
notre dame should tape some cheetahs to their backs
January 7th, 2013 at 9:00 PM
Notre dame wouldnt even be here if the refs didnt fuck pitt over
January 7th, 2013 at 9:01 PM
This too.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:02 PM
My new year’s resolution is to stay on topic here. Youse guys are makin’ it hard…
January 7th, 2013 at 9:03 PM
’96 is what you’re looking for; Nebraska 62, UF 24. I think tonight may surpass that.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:03 PM
SROD, I gotta know, would you see Django Unchained?
January 7th, 2013 at 9:04 PM
Not quite BBQ, but I did a brisket in the oven Saturday. No where near like cooking it outside, but not bad.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:04 PM

That kid makes me laugh. My boy went to 1st grade with a kid tha looks just him. I bust a gut every time that comes on
/easily amused
January 7th, 2013 at 9:04 PM
Notre Dame might need to sacrifice another student intern soon if they want to get back in this one
January 7th, 2013 at 9:05 PM
Te’o losing $$$$
January 7th, 2013 at 9:05 PM
If AP can come back after torn ACL/MCL in one offseason, I think it’s safe to say that RG3 will be back as good as ever. The key question is keeping him healthy and smart decisions being made by the coaching staff and RG3 himself over the course of the next few years. This is a huge wakeup call for the franchise.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:05 PM
So’s the game
January 7th, 2013 at 9:05 PM
scripty, gotta admit, whenever I see a movie or tv show that references slavery, I have to bottle up a lot of anger. I know it’s a part of our nation’s history, but it still makes me wanna Hulk out & smash stuff.
I have to put on some Delfonics or Stylistics to calm my nerves.
/there goes the resolution
January 7th, 2013 at 9:06 PM
Eaaaaasy there Brent.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:06 PM
Well this sucks/is awesome
One day, I really want to figure out how much a game played six weeks after the regular season ends really says about both the winning and losing teams. I played sports growing up and can’t imagine what to expect after a layoff like that.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:06 PM
brent got a bit excited talking about AJs mom and girlfriend
January 7th, 2013 at 9:06 PM
Everyone is different and this isnt RG3′s first time blowing his knee up.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:06 PM
Creepy Musberger.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:07 PM
So months back I mentioned my bbq sandwich from Smithfield’s where instead of cole slaw I do potato salad. Yep, its fucking awesome.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:09 PM
SROD, methinks you’d like Django quite a bit. Granted, this is a White Guy Movie Recommendation. But it’s pretty damn good. Only Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Raid were better this year, IMO.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:09 PM
RGIII has LCL which could be a different animal.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:10 PM
SROD if you can handle some blood you might like it. Django breaks off a whole helluva lot of slaveowners and hired hands.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:10 PM
Zero Dark 30 was a horrible movie. Me and the other 5 people with me all thought it was overrated as all hell. Boring, characters that you dont care about, oh yeah, and inaccurate.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:10 PM
Blowout. What did we expect, big ten teams suck against the sec.
Fraudy sluts.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:10 PM
i’ll start going to church if ND makes this respectable.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:10 PM
Bloodbath
January 7th, 2013 at 9:10 PM
Queefer, I may check it out later, based on your reco.
Did see SkyFall last week, and enjoyed it. Definitely wanna see Zero Dark Thirty.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:11 PM
Macy’s v. Gimbel’s. ND is Gimbel’s.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:11 PM
terrible end to a fun year. will anyone watch the 2nd half? no way Irish can rally down 21-0
January 7th, 2013 at 9:12 PM
Agree. Hope they make a theatrical version of “No Easy Day” which I thought was a decent read.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:12 PM
G’night everybody.
Gotta clean the dryer vent. Then go to bed.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:12 PM
the best part of oscar season are the dvd screeners that get leaked on the internet. i watched zero dark 30 three times over the weekend.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:12 PM
One day, I really want to figure out how much a game played six weeks after the regular season ends really says about both the winning and losing teams.
It’s crazy. On the one hand, the 2003 Buckeyes wouldn’t have had time to install some of the defensive fronts they put in vs. Miami. The other – the team that lost to FL was on a roll at the end of the season and Florida got healthy to beat OSU. It’s not ideal but oh well.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:13 PM
I haven’t seen a massacre this bad since Django went on that kill spree at Candie Land.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:14 PM
Skyfall was really good too. Django is a little too long to keep momentum throughout, but it works far more than it doesn’t.
Wait, people didn’t like Zero Dark Thirty? Holy hell I thought it was phenomenal.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:15 PM
This right here. Zero Dark 30 is nothing more than a highly fictionalized version of what happened, the acting and lines are laughably bad.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:15 PM
Notre Dame has three dimples on the inside of its skull.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:15 PM
Didn’t even watch the First Half, you could see this coming from miles away.

January 7th, 2013 at 9:15 PM
Terrible end?
January 7th, 2013 at 9:15 PM
herbie must have bet the farm on the domers too, he sounds like someone shot his dog.

4 point play for Martell Webster & the Wiz go up 99-94 with 1:43 left to play.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:17 PM
ZD30 reminded me a bit of homeland. except jessica chastain is a whole lot hotter and not as crazy
January 7th, 2013 at 9:17 PM
That Auburn girl should be ashamed of herself.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:18 PM
One sexy waaaahhhhhhmbulance has been dispatched to your address, EIC.
Yup. Stanford, too.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:18 PM
Oh think of the 2nd half ad inventory for pete’s sakes. oh the humanity.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:19 PM
They used to show up a lot on the Bakers Dozen on sirius, and I’ve loved their album ever since. Also like Blind Pilots latest effort

dat ambulance!
January 7th, 2013 at 9:20 PM
Ohhhhh baby
January 7th, 2013 at 9:20 PM
Golson isn’t nearly good enough to make a comeback
January 7th, 2013 at 9:21 PM
nice play on 4th and 5.
i’m going to watch every last second of this curb stompin’.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:21 PM
4th and 3 and that’s your play call? If I’m Bama, I’m sending Cooper downfield deep on the first play.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:22 PM
Should’ve been a td, but ND got Golson’d
January 7th, 2013 at 9:22 PM
Jessica Chastain was killer in ZDT. She deserves all the awards she’s gonna get.
Beardown: was your ZDT screener kinda shitty? Mine was 2.5GB but looked like it was a low-res YouTube video blown up to TV size. The day scenes were tolerable but the night stuff was utter garbage.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:22 PM
you know I like those sirens.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:24 PM
Maybe they can round up Northern Illinois for the 2nd half.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:25 PM
Who doesnt?!
January 7th, 2013 at 9:25 PM
Was that a holding call on ALA? Inconceivable!
January 7th, 2013 at 9:26 PM
Beal hits the game winner from the top of the key! Wiz improve to 5-28. Only like to beat the good teams like OKC/MIA, I guess.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:27 PM
Fascinatingly mediocre on the road
January 7th, 2013 at 9:27 PM
Put in the Hendrix Experience!
January 7th, 2013 at 9:28 PM
the darks at the end were a bit too dark, but i didn’t think it was that bad.
if yours was the same .avi file as mine, that is part of the reason.
i did find a site with a streaming .mkv, that looks very nice.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:28 PM
I haven’t left this thread, so can someone tell me if there are GIFs of the “blown calls” on the front page yet??
January 7th, 2013 at 9:29 PM
I wouldn’t read anything into the hoops game. They wanted to get that game done. Sometimes they try to do NBA games early on Super Bowl Sunday too. No fouls and no timeouts.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:31 PM
In case you guys missed this, this is a fantastic article about the mission to get Bin Laden (its about a year old, but still a good read):
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/08/08/110808fa_fact_schmidle?currentPage=all
One of the many problems with Zero Dark was that it completely marginalizes or outright discounts the Obama’s initiative to hunt down OBL. I’m not a huge fan of Obama, but I do give him props after reading this.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:32 PM
Golson HAS to attack the first down marker there, instead runs OB. Weak as weak can be
January 7th, 2013 at 9:32 PM
For fun, they are going to let Notre Dame play all their current NFL players in the 2nd half to try to catch up.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:35 PM
Cmon it’s been at least 5 minutes since Alabama scored
January 7th, 2013 at 9:35 PM
Goodfella : check out Manhunt by Peter Bergen. Really great read about the planning and hunt for bin Laden. Much better than No Easy Day.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:35 PM
Best road winning % in the league.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:39 PM
Wow, just missed that deep ball. ‘Bama ain’t letting up on the throttle.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:40 PM
Thanks, will check it out.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:41 PM
9-5. Not great considering who they’ve played. A lot of close games v mediocre-bad teams
January 7th, 2013 at 9:42 PM
Did Notre Dame just faircatch at the 4?
January 7th, 2013 at 9:44 PM
Even by Big 10 standards this is embarrassing.
Teo has been worse than terrible, total fraud.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:50 PM
Watching a feisty Celtics-Knicks game. Very chippy
January 7th, 2013 at 9:50 PM
ND not getting blown of line of scrimmage like they were early, but can’t cover or tackle.
They didn’t play a good offense all year
January 7th, 2013 at 9:55 PM
Spin me. Lacy…again!
January 7th, 2013 at 9:56 PM
I’m glad I don’t have to worry about the Lions drafting Nancy Te’O now.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:56 PM
Dick Bavetta still officiating is the single greatest travesty of the Stern Era
January 7th, 2013 at 9:58 PM
that missed tackle on Yeldon was epic.
/TE’O = FRAUD
January 7th, 2013 at 10:00 PM
ND wouldn’t be here if Barkley was healthy. That isn’t meant as a compliment to SC
January 7th, 2013 at 10:00 PM
I’ve been saying this all season. Wow the guy catches 7 passes basically thrown right to him and he’s a Heisman candidate. What a joke. Really hope no team is dumb enough to draft him in the top 5.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:01 PM
Very classy pre-halftime interview by Brian Kelly in a difficult situation. I want to hate him, but I’m impressed.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:02 PM
Pretty much all of this.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:04 PM
Jarvis Jones > Shazier > Te’O > Jake Ryan
January 7th, 2013 at 10:06 PM
A playoff would likely prevent a snoozefest like this.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:07 PM
Tommy Heinsohn ripping Dick Bavetta is amazing
January 7th, 2013 at 10:07 PM
Remember, he killed a kid.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:08 PM
In the championship most likely. I think ND gets steamrolled in the first round playoff game though.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:15 PM
PUT IN RUDY!
January 7th, 2013 at 10:15 PM
I hope ends up in a shutout.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:17 PM
I’ll take the guy with two more years of eligibility.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:17 PM
Abomination of a game from Melo, and the Knicks really missed Felton. Getting back Bradley is big for the Celtics, I hope Shumpert can bring that same kind of defensive presence on the perimeter when he gets back
January 7th, 2013 at 10:19 PM
/gets home from my shitty HS girls basketball game I had to referee (and the damn thing even went to OT)
//turns on TV excited for game
///sees game is already over
////at least I have ALA -10 at +110 odds.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:22 PM
Melo to KG at the free throw line: you soft, you soft, soft soft soft. I’ll see you after this, we’ll see you after this. You soft. Courtney Lee to Melo, (something like the ref is listening). Melo ” I don’t give a fuck”. KG: crickets.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:24 PM
I definitely enjoyed someone giving KG some of his own treatment, but it wasn’t very productive.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:24 PM
Clowney > Leonard Williams > everyone else
Laughable. ‘Melo isn’t half the player KG has been
January 7th, 2013 at 10:25 PM
If notre dame gets shut out, they should start next season unranked
January 7th, 2013 at 10:25 PM
Amazing how boston played better defense without rondo. Also helps when you play a team who relies too much on the three
January 7th, 2013 at 10:26 PM
@TommyBeer: Wow. They’re reporting on MSG that a Knick player was yelling outside Celtic locker room, possibly Melo waiting for KG
January 7th, 2013 at 10:26 PM
All year, i thought that Alabama player’s name was Clinton Dix, i just realized that’s his hyphenated last name
January 7th, 2013 at 10:27 PM
Holy balls, bama
January 7th, 2013 at 10:27 PM
Probably. He’s been petulant his whole career
/George Karl nods
January 7th, 2013 at 10:30 PM
petulant = George Karl
January 7th, 2013 at 10:31 PM
I’m certainly not dumb enought to even argue this.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:35 PM
Cant believe the wizards beat the thunder.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:38 PM
Thunder have been struggling a little since Christmas.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:38 PM
Keep the pedal down Nick, if the game isnt going to be good then send ND back to irrelevance for us.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:38 PM
At least Northern Illinois scored in the Orange Bowl.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:40 PM
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!
January 7th, 2013 at 10:41 PM
As long as the shutout is in play, I don’t see them letting up.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:41 PM
Lets see you win for real in the NFL Saban. Please, go try it man. C’mon please.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:42 PM
Better that than all the smooching you see between opposing players in the NBA today.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:42 PM
Shocker, melo acting like a bitch.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:42 PM
97 yard drive that looked like a no contact practice drill.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:43 PM
What did he do now?
January 7th, 2013 at 10:43 PM
Can’t wait to hear Golic take some tomorrow.
/yeah, I listen
//can’t use my phone to stream anymore
January 7th, 2013 at 10:47 PM
Did they do any ridiculously stupid and contrived bet this time?
January 7th, 2013 at 10:49 PM
Nah. Even the metro picked ND
There goes the shutout
January 7th, 2013 at 10:49 PM
Golston is pretty bad. Lots of his passes have way too much air under them. He’s not very accurate either. Granted he’s under major pressure.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:54 PM
I need Yeldon to go over 76.5 rushing yards.
January 7th, 2013 at 10:58 PM
As bad as the ND defense has been, I think the offense has been worse
January 7th, 2013 at 11:09 PM
So Brian is basically charlie weis
January 7th, 2013 at 11:19 PM
Well this was awful. Didn’t think they would really win but didn’t want an embarrassment, so, yeah, guess I know what it’s like to be an Ohio State fan.
On the real at the beginning of this season I told myself this would be my last for college football. Turning thirty this year and it’s gotten to the point where I feel creepy being so emotionally invested in it. Have been an Irish fan since I was knee high to your mom growing up in Indiana in the eighties and honestly didn’t think this season would be much to go out on. Absolutely brutal but in terms of how much it impacted me, don’t think it’s touching BC after the game of the century or USC in 2005. I’m getting too old for this shit.
But on the upshot hockey is back and I just got given free drugs so hey. Rock on.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:20 PM
i feel closer to you mole
eww
January 7th, 2013 at 11:22 PM
Don’t worry it’s been nearly twenty years since I moved from the Indiana/Illinois area known as “hey at least it’s not Ohio.”
