Asheville, Greensboro, Charlotte, Wilmington… those are the ones I know, and only from filling out the bracket every year while I was growing up. Is any of them a decent school?

Wilmington has an outstanding marine biology program (hyenia’d!), Greensboro I believe is/was a big textiles school (when the industry existed in the state), Asheville has art students, and Charlotte has the engineering kids who couldn’t get into State. It’s a sixteen (I think, last I checked) school system, bound to be more than a few degree mills in there.

Rice is only 25!

Kent State attempted to do this and just go by Kent for a while, but it didn’t stick.

Kent State wasn’t so much a city-branding maneuver, as a “please forget about the time our kids got massacred” maneuver.

I love how the school’s actual name is UNC Charlotte, but the athletic department refers to it as Charlotte.

They made that change at the turn of the century because the media kept fucking it up and mixing them up with UNCG and UNC in reports. There are seven schools in the state that start with “UNC” so from a branding perspective it actually makes a lot of sense.

Here’s one that blew me away this weekend, as I was looking at Pro Football Reference for active career leaders in carries: Rashard Mendenhall is only 25 years old. He’s two months older than CJ Spiller. Dude’s career is basically over at 25.

Runningbacks age in dog years. It’s funny i was thinking yesterday, Bernard Pierce would be a great replacement for the Ravens in a couple years when Ray Rice is too old. Rice is only 25!
