Ballin’: The Lakers Can’t Catch a Break, Even When Dwight Howard Plays Well
Denver 112, LA Lakers 105: If Dwight Howard knocks this blocked shot anywhere but right to Gallo, maybe the Lakers force overtime. Instead … they lost their 3rd straight and are now 11th in the West, three games behind Portland for the 8th spot. Steve Nash (13 assists) had the assist of the night to Howard (14 points, 26 rebounds, four blocks) …
… but I thought Andre Iguodala (15 points, seven assists, six rebounds) had the move of the night with this (notice how Nash whiffs).
Memphis 92, Phoenix 81: Michael Beasley watch: Early in the season he was taking 10-20 shots a night, leading the team in scoring, playing 25-30 minutes a game. He got a DNP-CD Sunday, and hasn’t played over 10 minutes in the last five games. The Suns have lost seven of eight.
Oklahoma City 104, Toronto 92: If Marv Albert had the call above: “A series of moves by Durant … oh and a beautiful lay-in.” And if Albert had the call below: “A facial by Amir Johnson!”
Miami 99, Washington 71: The Wizards are 4-28 again. We’ve affixed “lottery-bound” to every Mavericks mention, and we’re now going to stamp “hapless” alongside any Wizards mention heretofore.
Charlotte 108, Detroit 101, OT: Kemba Walker led six Bobcats in double figures with 20 points. Andre Drummond, seen dunking above, scored 10 points, collected six rebounds and blocked three shots in just 27 minutes. If you couldn’t tell, I’m a fan.

That’s some top notch fake trying by Nash right there, my god.

“Fake Hustle”. It’s a Tommy Heinsohn term, passed down by Red

Protection break downs tend to start with Nash.
/in defense and lottery picks.

TBL,
It was over the weekend but still no mention of your Warriors getting worked by your Clippers?
January 7th, 2013 at 11:42 AM
I appreciate you doing the work for me Jason.
because I haven’t watched a Suns game in a while
January 7th, 2013 at 11:46 AM
Beasley is still only 23? Jesus.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:47 AM
Its ridiculous. In 3 years he is going to sign with another team and there will be more talk of untapped talent reservoir.

Michael Beasley’s goal is to set the all-time record for most teams played for – high school through nba; Joe Smith look out.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:49 AM
both Lawson and Miller wound up with 10 assists last night. When is the last time a PG and his backup each wound up with 10 assists. The Lakers aren’t making the playoffs this year with Nash and Duhon as the PG’s in that system, and I think Kobe is at the point where he recognizes this.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:49 AM
I’ve always hated him a bit for breaking his commitment to UNC Charlotte but I would have guessed he was almost thirty now. Huh.

I’ve watched a good amt of Suns this yr. Michael Beasley may have the least refined game in the NBA, decision-making included. He just runs out there, tries to score indiscriminately, then gets pulled. There is no thought process behind his shot selection, and he is a defensive and rebounding catastrophe.
However, in terms of natural scoring ability, he is still top ten in the NBA. If he ever works hard enough to develop his jumper and refine his offensive game and decision making, he could be a late bloomer steal for another franchise

The only way they make it is if they make a trade either Dwight or Pau for a mixture of 2-3 decent wing pieces. They do that and they can run and gun it. But with their depth right now they are probably the last team out.

Quick, sctrojans, give me all the winning lotto numbers for the next three years
January 7th, 2013 at 11:53 AM
One of the most underrated players in the league. I love Andre Miller. A pro’s pro. One of the only guards that NOBODY fucks with
January 7th, 2013 at 11:54 AM
Beasley just needs more touches. He can be like the Big Dog. trade him to an absolutely horrible team with no other offensive options.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:54 AM
There have been plenty of examples of this happening. JR Smith this year
January 7th, 2013 at 11:54 AM
I really thought he would be a good rebounder in the NBA. He dominated on the boards in college.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:55 AM
Chris Paul put on a show Friday night against them to the tune of 30 points and 13 assists. Lakers had no answer for him.
I’ve long maintained that the Lakers would have been better off with a guy like Kyle Lowry than going for a superstar Steve Nash.

Here’s one that blew me away this weekend, as I was looking at Pro Football Reference for active career leaders in carries: Rashard Mendenhall is only 25 years old. He’s two months older than CJ Spiller. Dude’s career is basically over at 25.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:56 AM
Unrelated, but I was thinking about Duke’s roster for next year. They will have roughly two big men, one point guard, and six wings. Should be very interesting.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:56 AM
Still could be. It’s an effort issue IMO. The physical ability and instincts are there
January 7th, 2013 at 11:57 AM
dude, no way that’s enough wings for all of them.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:01 PM
I’ll fix you Lakers.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:05 PM
That’s actually not terrible unless the Lakers believe Howard will re-sign with them.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:08 PM
I am fine with that trade even if Howard pulled a Bob Horry and never put on a Suns jersey once.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:08 PM
I approve. Mainly because its a cool word.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:11 PM
I love how the school’s actual name is UNC Charlotte, but the athletic department refers to it as Charlotte.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:12 PM
Runningbacks age in dog years. It’s funny i was thinking yesterday, Bernard Pierce would be a great replacement for the Ravens in a couple years when Ray Rice is too old. Rice is only 25!
January 7th, 2013 at 12:13 PM
It’s like how U-La-La tries to call itself “Louisiana.”
January 7th, 2013 at 12:17 PM
They made that change at the turn of the century because the media kept fucking it up and mixing them up with UNCG and UNC in reports. There are seven schools in the state that start with “UNC” so from a branding perspective it actually makes a lot of sense.
Shitty school though.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:29 PM
Nah the Charlotte thing is their official name filed with the NCAA.
January 7th, 2013 at 1:14 PM
Duffy is already hard at work trying to fit “hapful” into his next post.

Kent State attempted to do this and just go by Kent for a while, but it didn’t stick.
In terms of UL-Lafayette, they actually lost a court case in which they tried to go by just Louisiana.
January 7th, 2013 at 1:16 PM
Asheville, Greensboro, Charlotte, Wilmington… those are the ones I know, and only from filling out the bracket every year while I was growing up. Is any of them a decent school?
January 7th, 2013 at 1:18 PM
Kent State wasn’t so much a city-branding maneuver, as a “please forget about the time our kids got massacred” maneuver.
January 7th, 2013 at 1:19 PM
He’ll age pretty slowly from now on, since his carries are about to go waaaay down.
January 7th, 2013 at 1:40 PM
Wilmington has an outstanding marine biology program (hyenia’d!), Greensboro I believe is/was a big textiles school (when the industry existed in the state), Asheville has art students, and Charlotte has the engineering kids who couldn’t get into State. It’s a sixteen (I think, last I checked) school system, bound to be more than a few degree mills in there.
