Robert Griffin III Injures His Knee Again While Playing Game Visibly Hurt, Thanks to Mike Shanahan
Mike Shanahan, who has used up and spit out more running backs than can be counted, just committed gross negligence with Robert Griffin and his wounded knee. Robert Griffin III started the game at less than 100% with his still injured knee. Just this morning, Dr. James Andrews had some interesting quotes about how he did not clear RG III in the Baltimore game, and still had concerns.
[EARLIER: Robert Griffin III Knocked Out of the Baltimore Game with Apparent Knee Injury]
Washington got off to a fantastic start, but Robert Griffin III hurt his knee further just before the second touchdown that put them ahead 14-0, on a keeper where he would have probably scored if he was fully healthy.
[EARLIER: Robert Griffin III Got Knocked Out of the Game by Sean Weatherspoon of the Falcons]
After that, it was clear to most people not named Shanahan that not only was Griffin III visibly hurting and ineffective (the Redskins never scored again and had two first downs after the first quarter with Griffin in). He was 4 for 10 for 16 yards, with an interception, two sacks, and only one run on a bootleg where he was limping the whole way. The final blow came right after Seattle finally took the lead at 21-14. On the first shotgun snap, it went low, and with Griffin trying to bend down to get it. His knee gave out on the horrid turf at Fed Ex field without contact. We’ll await word on the extent of this injury, but regardless, decisions should be about the process and not the outcome. Same here. Whether it turns out to be a torn ACL or not, keeping Griffin in the game at that point was one of the worst decisions I have seen.

I hear there’s an Easter egg in the Madden 2013 game where you can unlock Dr. Andrews.

It is 2013, Danny Boy. Fix your field.

After the bootleg where he was hobbling was the point of no return

It’s a gimmick offense, and he was the gimmick. Once Real Gimpy III was no longer a threat to run, it killed the running lanes for Morris. It was painful to watch.

Darrell, ill be up early so ill tune into washington sports talk online tomorrow morning. Days after losses are always hilarious to outsiders

Agreed. I think RG3 is a very talented player but I don’t understand why the media acts as though he won’t end up like every other recent QB who derived much of their success from their legs.

Because he’s smart!!!

Get ready for the big debate about the league and medical staff putting the team before the players’ health. Good thing I watched the end of Varsity Blues yesterday to get a refresher on how the players can protect themselves from predatory trainers and coaches.
Was more shocked to find out that the OG RG, Rex Grossman, is still on an NFL roster.

For what it’s worth, I think RG III should have been taken out after the hit on the sideline, right before the second WSH TD.

Fuck
First time I’ve done that

He should have been taken out , unreal.
Anyone who pays attention to football knows rg3 can throw the hell out of the ball. Why the skins got away from that is odd.
January 6th, 2013 at 8:15 PM
I don’t know who is going to be worse, the callers or the hosts.

It was obvious even throwing the ball, he didn’t have his legs under him.
January 6th, 2013 at 8:18 PM
I was rooting for the Skins only b/c I think the Falcons beat them again – easily. Seahawks, a bit more difficult. That DE + DB combination is lethal.
January 6th, 2013 at 8:20 PM
didn’t have his legs under him.
Seattle just had a leg up on the competition. Washington just couldn’t finish the last leg of the race, and once it was all said and done, didn’t have a leg to stand on. Lilly. Lilly lilly legs von lilly.

Taking away running ability was one thing, but taking away any and all ability to plant his freaking foot was devastating. He was floating balls left and right.
January 6th, 2013 at 8:29 PM
Serious question: Is this game a fire-able offense for Shanny? Cousins has proved to be at least a competent backup. The Rat not only torpedo’d any chance the Skins had in this game, but might have just wrecked their 2013 as well, and oh-by-the-way was putting the career of the franchise QB (whom they paid a kings ransom to get) in jeopardy.
If I’m Snyder, I’m at least floating the idea to some people in the organization, just to see their reactions.
January 6th, 2013 at 8:29 PM
Doc Walker talking about the glory days of the 80′s yet again, Brian Mitchell ready to call out another player’s manhood, Czabe throwing in a Simpson’s quote, about 10 callers predicting the Skins winning the next 5 Super Bowls, etc. etc.

Lost in all of this…
- Is it possible that Pete Carroll is becoming a legitimate NFL coach before our eyes? The core of Seattle is young and they look good.
- How many wide-open passes did the QBs miss this weekend? I can think of at least 4 or 5 off the top of my head. Those are the throws that Brady, Manning, et al don’t miss.
- Off that last point, I think Houston and Baltimore are going to get embarrassed next week. Brady and Manning >>>>>>>> Schaub and Flacco. The QB play on Wild Card weekend (save for Rodgers) has been ugly.
- Early predictions: NE-DEN, and GB-SEA for the conference championships
January 6th, 2013 at 8:32 PM
lol@ athe idea that Snyder would float an idea to anyone in the organization. The only person he would float ideas to is Shannahan, and we know what his reaction is.

RG3 in his presser sounds like a total egomaniac.
January 6th, 2013 at 8:35 PM
Shanahan clearly left him in, going for the win. Total bonehead move. Hopefully RG3′s injury isn’t too serious. He’s a stud when healthy.

Is he saying how this is unbelievably believable?

I expect for James Andrews to announce one month from now that he told Shanahan that RG3 shouldn’t have come back into this game.

RGIII won’t last 3 years if the coaching staff keeps using him like this. I’m sure Shanny will put all the responsibility on the medical staff (“they told me he was OK to play”) or the player.
January 6th, 2013 at 9:03 PM
Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen so many horrible overthrows. Joe Webb looked like he was trying to win free tuition at halftime of a college basketball game.

Yep Charlie ive been excited about Mama since october
January 6th, 2013 at 9:34 PM
Including Rodgers, the QBs this weekend went 145/265, 54 percent completion percentage, 1721 yards 6 YPA, 7 tds ,5 INTs.
That is horrific.

Not sure the name of their GM, but he was referenced several times during the game and sounds equally as responsible.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:00 AM
He was already a legitimate NFL Coach.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:31 AM
It is almost as if Shanahan didn’t watch the Cowboy game. I was pretty sure I could out run Griffin in that game. Dude was a warrior but come on coach.
January 7th, 2013 at 12:57 AM
All these former players on ESPN and NFLN saying there’s no way you pull Griffin with some of the most idiotic reasons I’ve ever heard. Guess I never realized how dumb some of these guys were.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:17 AM
It bothered me that the only thing the “pundits” were concerned about was RGIII’s effect on the Skins’ chances of winning. Virtually no one talked about his long term health. I fear his career will never take off due to injury.
Kirk Cousins has pretty good job security.
January 7th, 2013 at 9:55 AM
I guess that knee brace “wasn’t black enough” to help support his knee for four quarters.
January 7th, 2013 at 11:07 AM
No, the seven game win streak eliminates that possibility. Taking medical decisions out of his hands going forward is a no-brainer though
