Bev Kearney Resigns as University of Texas Track & Field Coach After “consensual intimate relationship” with Student Athlete From 2002 is Revealed
Bev Kearney, who had been the University of Texas track and field coach since 1993, has resigned. Someone recently went to the University with a revelation: back in 2002, Kearney had a “consensual intimate relationship” with a male student-athlete. The school put Kearney on paid leave in November, and she made the decision to resign this week. From the Statesman:
Kearney said her decision to resign was tied to an investigation that UT officials began this past fall. At that time, university officials received information that Kearney engaged in what she called a “consensual intimate relationship” with an “adult student-athlete” that began in July of 2002 and ended months later after Kearney suffered critical spinal injuries in a Dec. 26, 2002, automobile accident.
Kearney said the student-athlete, whom she declined to identify, reported the relationship to UT officials in October, triggering the investigation that led to Kearney being placed on the paid leave that was announced Nov. 12. In announcing Kearney’s leave, UT offered no detailed reasons for the move.
The obvious question: Why would someone go to the University with this information from a decade ago? Deep down in the Statesmen article, it notes Kearney was due for a huge pay raise in 2013: from $270k to $397k plus a $25k bonus. But how many people could have possibly known that?
Kearney led the Longhorns to six track and field championships. [Statesman]

I dislike all things UT and this sounds petty to me.

She needed someone to tell her that she can’t be sleeping with one of the athletes she coached? Really?

@charliwade, that may be the case, but for what it’s worth, it doesn’t say whether the Student was one of hers, or of another sport. It’s still ethically dubious, but a lot of universities have no rule against fraternizing with students if they’re not directly taught by that teacher or coach

what douchebag turned her in?

I haven’t seen any article that states that she had a relationship with a “male” student-athlete. Other articles state that the athlete was in her program and she was the women’s coach at Texas.

Do any good betting after last night, Vez? I hit for 26 bucks on a 4 dollar card. If the machine wouldn’t have been fucked up I would have won 30 on another card I had filled out. I shouldn’t have kept it and looked at it, only pissed me off.

good job meth. i did well today (3-1) but didn’t bet much. yesterday’s packers game was the big one for me…claimed two wins, each for the max i can bet. just fooling around tonight with the ‘bowl’ game and the denver nba game

Yea I didn’t bet much myself, as explained. The $30 card was actually a $10 bet, but it was the newly formatted playoff cards with no spreads and smaller payouts. The machine was fucked up that accepted the new cards, though. So no dice. No biggie. It’ll cover the case of beer for my night off.

Actually you have to pick at least 1 with the spread, then the rest without. Wish they had those cards all season. I’d be making it rain up in this motherfucker.

it’s really all we ask. you will notice as your gambling evolves (and it will) that the absence of losing is as great a thrill as the winning.
especially when you think you;re going to lose, and it turns into a push (you took a 3-point favorite and they won by 3, so you lose 10% of your bet only). the feeling of not having to pay is a little better than the feeling of adding to your wealth i guess is what i’m trying to type

No doubt the guy is Chris Simms. His ultimate act of douche-baggery upon the Longhorns.

TBL: Not sure where you see it was a male student. I’d bet not. And, I’d bet it’s the tip of the iceberg.
