AFC Wildcard: Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans
The Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans meet in what should be a defensive battle. The Cincinnati Bengals defense led by DT Geno Atkins is currently among the best units in the game. They have not allowed more than 20 points in a game since Denver beat them back on November 4th, and have won 7 of the last 8 games.
Of course, some of that is their opponents as well. They got the Giants slide started, but controlling the Chiefs, Raiders, Eagles, and a Ravens team that started resting starters early helped. The Houston Texans have not been playing their best down the stretch. Early defensive injuries sapped this team, namely Brian Cushing. Brooks Reed has been out for most of the late stretch, trying to play only in the Minnesota game. He’s questionable for today’s contest but expected to play. Top cornerback Johnathan Joseph appears to finally be getting healthy at the right time as well.
On offense, both teams really rely on one receiver heavily in the passing game (Andre Johnson and A.J. Green), and the key may be who can get contribution from someone else on some big plays, or shut down the opponents’ top option.
When I looked at similar matchups for these teams, the road team did not fare well in these defensive matchups. Andy Dalton has left a lot of plays on the field in recent weeks, and while Matt Schaub has received criticism down the stretch for not having “it”, Dalton’s team has really won despite him not playing well. He’ll have to play well in this one for the Bengals to pull the mild upset. Houston has proven vulnerable at times to big pass plays. The question is whether Dalton can be the one to take advantage.
The Line: Houston by 4.5
The Pick: Houston 23, Cincinnati 16

Rolling with Lisk’s article the other day on this match-up. Took HOU -4.5. SMH with HOU’s 1st possession. play action pass and Schaub rolls out for a 1yd gain, screen for a loss of 4 and then a 3&12 pass for 8 yds.
Why do you go away from your identity? If I’m Kubiak, Foster is getting 30 touches, whether it’s running/catching pass.

Hey, Adam Jones still plays lol

Anyone think Cinci has a chance? I think they are better than last year, and the Texans are about the same as they were

I like Houston. Schaub looking sharper than he has lately. Watt unblockable, as usual
January 5th, 2013 at 5:05 PM
Watt is a beast like no other. If Cinci can slow down Foster, I think they have a good chance

Houston probably needs to score a touchdown at some point, but I think they can win kicking field goals. 19 points should win it
January 5th, 2013 at 5:23 PM
So much for Schaub’s sharpness
January 5th, 2013 at 5:23 PM
Matt Schaub really is not a very good qb.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:25 PM
Anyone else fading Joe Webb tonight? Taking the Pack 1st Half and game.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:29 PM
Joe Webb is better than Ponder I think.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:31 PM
Rey Maualuga sucks.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:33 PM
Wasnt Maualuga highly touted as a future NFL star?
January 5th, 2013 at 5:33 PM
Agreed
January 5th, 2013 at 5:35 PM
Thought about that too, but I’ll take my chances that he will shit the bed.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:36 PM
Wonder if Webb really is starting. Havent seen anything from the team to say so.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:43 PM
If it’s even a wash they should start Webb. Packers haven’t game planned for his style.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:45 PM
Texans have no killer instinct.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:46 PM
Matt Schaub really is not a very good qb.
He’s a slightly better Trent Green.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:47 PM
why does Dalton keep forcing the ball to Gresham? Someone tell him that they have AJ Green on the team.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:47 PM
I’d play this possession very conservatively from a Houston perspective. Tough to trust Schaub after that int
January 5th, 2013 at 5:50 PM
Dalton 4/10 3 yards. Wow.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:51 PM
Nice start to the drive. FG here would be huge
January 5th, 2013 at 5:52 PM
Dalton 4/10 3 yards. Wow.
yeah, that’s bad. Matt McGloin went 1/10, 0 yards against Alabama last year.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:55 PM
You gotta get outta bounds or throw it away.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:56 PM
Need to go to the end zone there. Cin obviously guarding sideline
January 5th, 2013 at 5:56 PM
No 57 yard attempt?
January 5th, 2013 at 5:56 PM
how much money did pacman cost himself by being an asshole for the first 5 years of his career?
January 5th, 2013 at 5:57 PM
What a boring game. Where is this Webb starting coming from? Is Ponder hurt?
January 5th, 2013 at 5:58 PM
I agree with choice not to kick, but that 4th down had to be thrown into the end zone
January 5th, 2013 at 6:00 PM
Ponders has been listed as questionable this week with elbow issues on his throwing arm. There was a report of a team official saying it’s not looking good for Ponder and will depend on pregame warmups if he goes or not.
January 5th, 2013 at 6:01 PM
Ah got ya, thanks Rondo
January 5th, 2013 at 6:02 PM
By the way, I forget who it was, sorry. Who went to school with a girl from Weirton (the town where the rape victim is from)
January 5th, 2013 at 6:14 PM
looking for a stable stream. my usual suspects are experiencing some heavy lags/delays :O any suggestions ?
January 5th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
Joe Webb is starting. Ponder inactive.
January 5th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
Hue Jackson is on the Cin coaching staff. This confirms he was a Cin mole planted in Oakland
January 5th, 2013 at 7:27 PM
Dear Gary Kubiak, this is why you go for it on 4th and 1 at midfield at the 50 if you have a chance to burn more clock, you unimaginative fuck.
