Backup Darrin Kitchens Stayed Behind to Sing the Florida Alma Mater Following Sugar Bowl Loss
This is Florida Gators junior linebacker, Darrin Kitchens, and this picture is one of the reasons that people love college football. The picture was taken by Whitney Holtzman, a Florida graduate and current Major League Baseball social media coordinator, following the Gators loss in the Sugar Bowl last night. Tradition goes that when the Gators win, the team sings the alma mater along with the band. Following the Gators embarrassing Sugar Bowl loss, only Kitchens remained to sing along with the fans. If you’re a Florida fan, this is one player to be proud of the day after your school lost in the biggest upset in BCS history.
Following the simple gesture, Kitchens’ Twitter account was flooded with Gator fans thanking him for the class move. During a 2011 game against Florida State, Kitchens suffered a concussion and had to be carted off the field. If this kid isn’t a fan favorite already, he had better be during his senior season or Florida is doing it wrong.

So they lost and let all his teammates go back to the locker room, as they always do after a loss, and then he sneaks over to the band and does this?
Lame.

If Yoko Ono’s taught us one thing, it’s that backups shouldn’t sing.

So dirty that I’m going to cleanse my mind by watching Driskel throw the ball for an hour or so. Laughter is the best medicine.
