Ballin’: Blake Griffin Misses Badly, Warriors Bench Mocks Him
Golden State 115, LA Clippers 94: The 17-game win streak has long been forgotten now that the Paper Clips have been blown out two nights in a row. Blake Griffin show 2-of-11 and was mocked by the Warriors bench. In just 13 minutes, Willie Green was such a liability (2-for-10), that he was -26. My Warriors are 22-10, winners of four straight. Time to point down a few shekels on the Warriors to win the West? Stephen Curry: 6-of-8 from deep, 31 points, and David Lee put up 24 points and collected 13 rebounds.
Houston 104, New Orleans 92: Jeremy Lin had seven dimes, and this was the prettiest. James Harden scored 31 points and is 5th in the NBA in scoring (26.3). If you’re charting Austin Rivers, and you shouldn’t be, he was 1-of-5 from the field, and 1-of-6 from the line. The 20-year-old rookie is having a dreadful year. Oh, and Duke is No. 1 in the country. So there’s that.
Sacramento 97, Cleveland 94: Watch DeMarcus Cousins (18 points, 16 rebounds) pick Kyrie Irving, then fumble the ball in the open court.
Brooklyn 110, Oklahoma City 93: Very surprising triumph on the road for the Nets, who got 25 points from Brook Lopez, 13 assists from Deron Williams, and 33 points from Joe Johnson. Lopez dunked on Ibaka, who is tied for the league lead in blocked shots (3.0 per game, same as Larry Sanders). Kevin Durant scored 26 points but was ejected for the first time in his career.
Miami 119, Dallas 109, OT: LeBron with another ho-hum 32 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists … plus this gorgeous reverse-dunk alley-oop flush from Wade.

The Barclays Center is a beautiful facility. Hopefully the surrounding area continues to be revamped, and the condemned graffiti covered buildings are turned into nice bars/restaurants.

Raptors are 8-2 in their last 10. Destroyed Portland in first game of six straight at home. Might be in a playoff spot by the end of the homestand.
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:34 AM
wow. That is shitty.
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:34 AM
Raptors helped by Bargnani injured?
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:38 AM
Love the Warriors but feel like they’re a player away. Would hate to see them mess with this team though. Maybe if Barnes makes a leap in the 2nd half.

Wait why shouldn’t we be charting Rivers? Did the NBA ban sick ankle breaking crossovers and mandate that NO play Coach K’s abysmal system?

better defense this year dr. tom

I remember when they were your Clippers, JMc

I like it…a preemptive strike.

Raps are helped with Bargnani out. Was a big defender of his, but he’s peaked and you can’t teach drive. More pt for energy guys like Amir and Ed Davis has helped, and the wings have stepped up – Derozan and Ross (who needs to be featured here more). Solid pg play from Jose and a nice constrained but effective re-emergence from Lowry has also made this possible.
Too bad they had so many tough losses early on. Might still fight for the playoffs, depending if the Celtics and a few others maintain their poor play.

I seem to remember people guffawing earlier this year about Mark Jackson as a head coach…
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:44 AM
It’s crazy that they’re 2nd in FG% defense when they have nobody to protect the rim and their crunch-time lineup is Jack-Curry-Klay-Lee-Landry.

Gmurr summed it up nicely. The defence and rebounding have improved significantly with the current rotation. I believe opponents are right around 90 points per game in the last 10.

Spurs are back to the top spot in the league with the best point differential. They have another tough back to back road game tonight. Once their schedule eases up, look out.
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:51 AM
Agreed Dr. Tom, I don’t see their d translating to the playoffs. They are getting by on energy and focus IMO. They don’t have any excellent defensive players, and they do have a couple really bad ones. Rebounds should be an issue come more competitive times too

The defence
D-(segment of picket fence)!!

I love that the headline is “Kate Upton and Pitcher Vacation” did not know that Verlander is SEO unfriendly.
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:52 AM
The Raps are playing well, but it’s worth noting their schedule has been incredibly soft of late
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:53 AM
Not buying them defensively either. Also, one of the leagues least athletic teams
January 3rd, 2013 at 11:55 AM
Love the Griffin mockery. Clips are becoming the most hated team within the NBA for their arrogant/immature antics
January 3rd, 2013 at 12:00 PM
Yeah they are no where near as athletic as they have been when they won their championships.

January 3rd, 2013 at 12:00 PM
Agreed. It should also be noted that their schedule was incredibly difficult during the 4-19 start to the season. They played 15 of first 23 on the road.

Duncan, Manu, and Parker can defy the effects of time….Old Steve Jackson, Bonner, and No ACL Blair are devastating athletes too
January 3rd, 2013 at 12:11 PM
They’re not, and if you don’t believe that all you have to do is think back to the OKC series last year, especially once OKC figured out how to defend against Parker on the pick and roll. San Antonio was athletically overmatched from that point forward in the series.
January 3rd, 2013 at 12:17 PM
No mention of the lottery-bound Mavs? But seriously, they gots problems, with a not so bad lineup. Dirk’s absence hurt a little too much
January 3rd, 2013 at 12:20 PM
Raptors have been impressive. Terrence Ross is playing really well.
As for the Warriors…I really don’t get it. Haven’t watched much of their team, but are they winning due to perimeter shooting. Jarret Jack is playing over his head.
January 3rd, 2013 at 12:40 PM
They’re actually the #3 rebounding team in the league right now. The defense is improved also, they’re playing better team D which helps mask bad individual D.
January 3rd, 2013 at 1:05 PM
Again, rebounding and defense can be artificially inflated in the reg season on account of effort and focus. This is why Mark Jackson deserves serious coach of the year consideration.
Rebounding is a very circumstantial stat, and I think GSW will come back to earth with playoff scouting, execution, and intensity. Teams should be able to pound them inside, as well as get into the paint off the dribble with relative ease, leading to less rebounding opportunities
January 3rd, 2013 at 1:57 PM
this is known as the “Chicago Bulls blowing their defensive load in the regular season” theory.

Danny Ainge, Brandon Bass, Jeff Green, and Courtney Lee can lick my balls.
