Rose Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Stanford
The Grandaddy of them all, and the reason we can’t have a better college football playoff. This game was once snark proof, but that era ended with Keith Jackson and Big Ten Football competitiveness.
Wisconsin: The Badgers’ season was…eventful. They sputtered early and were unfortunate late. They lost five games, by a combined six points in regulation. Sanctions saw Wisconsin reach the Big Ten Title Game, where they dropped 70 on Nebraska. Then Bret Bielema left for Arkansas, leaving Barry Alvarez to coach the Badgers in their third-straight Rose Bowl. Alvarez is 3-0 all-time in the Rose Bowl, 8-3 in bowl games.
Stanford: No Luck? No problem. Stanford lost its star quarterback, but did not regress. The Cardinal went 11-2, only losing 17-13 at Washington and at Notre Dame in overtime on a controversial no touchdown call. The Cardinal won four-straight against Top 20 teams to close the season. Stanford reached the Rose Bowl on their third consecutive BCS trip. Had they uncovered quarterback Kevin Hogan earlier, they might have returned to Miami. This team is not going anywhere.
Key: Which Stanford run defense shows up? The Cardinal run a competent, well-coached offense, but they are not explosive. Wisconsin’s defense can keep them in check. Will we see the Stanford that was No. 1 nationally in yards per carry heading into the BCS Title Game? Or, will we see the Stanford that gave up 277 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries during the Pac 12 Title Game? The Badgers were held below 3.7 yards per carry in all five losses.
Prediction: Stanford played eight one-score games this season. Wisconsin played seven. We’re taking the points. [Pick: Wisconsin +3.5]

Great coverage by Michigan. Hoke is so very overrated.
January 1st, 2013 at 4:58 PM
Shit refs in that game, notice how one knew what the line was when he called that offensive PI on the two point conversion. I am assuming he has Michigan getting 5.5
January 1st, 2013 at 5:00 PM
I got the push at least as I was only giving 5. 3-0-1 so far today.
January 1st, 2013 at 5:17 PM
Stanford -4 and over 47.5. Nice start.

I went STAN -5 big. That SOCAR finish still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, not as bad as the DUKE finish, but I thought for sure they were gonna get that 2pt conversion, but really would have loved to see them kick the XP. How many times is the opp team gonna score a TD with 11 secs left? That’s the bettor inside me talking.
Pretty close with my nos. so far.
My pick NW 30-27 (34-20 actual)
SOCAR 31-24 (33-28 actual)
UGA 41-27 (45-31 actual)
My Rose Bowl score is STAN 37-24. Gonna post my Orange Bowl pick later. GLTA

Got some Bruno Mars here, They got nothing on you! How about that 4th down call by UM and the Ref gives him the 1st down! Fock. That is in the top 10 egregious calls of all-time. The nose of the ball was an inch short! Wow. Clowney blew up the RB the next play. SOCAR was jacked.

Duffy, who’s your man or online site? That’s the lowest I saw this line.
January 1st, 2013 at 5:51 PM
Generally use Covers. I wrote this earlier this morning. Did not recheck the lines since then.
January 1st, 2013 at 5:53 PM
Gotcha. I actually like covers myself, by my man uses Bovada, which usually is high, which is great when you take the Dog, but in reverse when you take the Fav.

Bou not sure if you saw my thanks for the vandy pick yesterday. My day so far is in the clowney post

Glad I could help out. I’m out of my hole from the Sunday 2 weeks ago. And I had to move past that DUKE debacle. The SOCAR finish was a bummer, had them in a parlay with NW. Got it back with the UGA cover. Now I’m onto the STAN pick.
Gonna run my numbers for the NOILL/FSU game. I’ve seen NOILL a couple times this year, as well as FSU. NOILL is gonna be jacked for this game. Will run my nos. and see if this holds true.

Nice run by Monte Ball there. Tipped ball flutters for a 1st down. Things going the Badger way now.
January 1st, 2013 at 6:23 PM
Cairbou, you going to put your pick in this post? I’m thinking about putting a small amount on it and will be interested in what you think.

That dropped int is a killer for Stanford bettors
January 1st, 2013 at 6:38 PM
But the over bettors are just fine trojans
January 1st, 2013 at 6:41 PM
I’ll put it on here in a little bit.

The Rose Bowl has always been played on Jan. 1, right?
/ Ducks banhammer
Oh, and someone here summed up Les Miles pretty well last night: does anyone do so little with so much talent?
/ All praise to Chavis

Were you talking with my boy? He questioned the same thing.
Here’s my pick for the Orange Bowl. I got NOILL +14 covering this game, though they lose 32-27. In my 3, 4 & 5 game scenarios, they actually win outright in a couple of them.
This all comes down if FSU is gonna get up for this game and play to the ability of 4 & 5 star recruits and the coaching ability of Sling Blade. All the talk for the last month of FSU playing a MAC team for a BCS bowl might have woken them up to the fact.
But, I wouldn’t rule out the Huskies for getting past the lack of lesser skilled players. THIS GAME MAKES THEIR PROGRAM. They pull of the offset, or near upset, puts them on the map, ala Boise St, and the kids pour in. Gotta remember too, some of these kids were 2nd/3rd choices after Big10 schools in the same region.
FSU also has played down to lesser teams (NCST, SOFLA, VATECH come to mind). The quarterback play of NOILL’s dual threat QB will decide this game. If he’s able to make plays with both his feet and arm, this could be a wild finish.

Man, the 2012 memes must have lost their flavor at midnight last night.
January 1st, 2013 at 7:09 PM
Also, who will be tuning in to the Sousedbergin Bowl?
January 1st, 2013 at 7:37 PM
These two teams have hunkered down in the 2nd half. Gonna come down to the final possession I’m afraid
January 1st, 2013 at 7:43 PM
Ill settle for a split

Wisconsin’s offense was prehistoric. I’ve never had less confidence that a team would come back.
January 1st, 2013 at 8:21 PM
Why wouldn’t David Shaw take 30 secs for the interview? Doesn’t make sense.
January 1st, 2013 at 8:22 PM
Just switched to fsu m14. If okie state can do it so can fsu
January 1st, 2013 at 8:23 PM
Hakeem, Barry went back to his 1997 offense game plan. To be honest, both teams were playing field position and hoping for a TO to change the momentum of this game.
January 1st, 2013 at 8:32 PM
Who’s overrating him? He actually called a very good game today against a team that had more overall talent.
January 1st, 2013 at 8:33 PM
I’m going to pretend I didn’t read that.
