Chick-fil-A Bowl: LSU vs. Clemson
Clemson football echoes New Year’s Eve. Earnest Anticipation. All the raw material for a success that never quite materializes. Analysis only heightens the disappointment.
LSU: The Tigers had a down year. For LSU, that means losing one of their stable of star defenders and having two one-score losses to top five teams keep them out of the SEC title game. They still had Top 10 SRS wins against Texas A&M and South Carolina. The offense was worse than the sum of its parts. The defense ranked 7th in yards allowed per play. One notable absence will be punter Brad Wing who is suspended.
Clemson: The Tigers went 10-2, played two good teams and lost to both of them. Their best win? 47-31 against 6-7 Georgia Tech. The offense was prolific. Tajh Boyd finished fourth nationally in passer rating. DeAndre Hopkins filled the role most thought Sammy Watkins would, with 16 touchdowns and more than 1,200 yards. The defense, 74th in yards allowed per play, was soft.
Les Miles: The notable LSU coach tweeted this bizarre picture, dropped an F-bomb during an emotional press conference and mined his ear in contemplation after a botched fake field goal.
Dabo Swinney: The notable Clemson coach got into it with the HBC, received a contract extension after getting boat-raced by West Virginia in the Orange Bowl last year and has some stupendous fashion sense.
Recreational Prediction: Clemson winning would be huge for the ACC, cleansing the palate after a bitter 2012. Not this year. We have seen LSU play well against great opponents. We have not seen Clemson play well against a good one. [Pick: LSU -5]

New Years is one of those holidays that disappears from your radar after you hit 35. There’s just no damn reason at all to get excited about it in any way, aside from the fact that you probably don’t have to work the next day.

Prob gonna pay for this, but I’m rolling with CLEMSON +6. My numbers say LSU wins 33-31, but the CLEM Tigers covers. GLTA.
My Dad’s friend used to call New Year’s Eve amateur nite. I believe he’s right.

Wife and I were both off today. Took the kid to daycare and had our NYE date this afternoon. Hit the sales at the mall, went to lunch, and then caught a movie (This is 40). Putting the kid to bed now and I highly doubt either of us are up at midnight.

Caribou – on CLEM with you so I’m here for moral support
/2-0 today with wins on Tulsa +1.5 and the Over in the NCST/Vandy game (>54)

New Years Eve moved off my radar when I had a kid at 29. Love sleep way to much. Anyone bet on college basketball today? I saw some picks out there but didn’t take any. Took DAYTON +4 last nite. Went to OT with USC. What a wild ride that was. I actually like college bball beter Han football. Games are done in 2 hrs, unlike football which drags on for 3.5+ hrs.

Go Tigers!

Watkins hurt to top it off – we may just have to light our $ on fire now.

His knee got buckled I believe. Yah, he’s dinged up. Not good

I’ll say the same thing I said for the TULSA/ISU game, these big scores and momentum that teams jump out to, you wonder about keeping this all game long. Not saying that LSU will fall off completely, but CLEM has to regroup and get back to what they do. Lot of time.
/crosses fingers as well

To be honest, I’m getting about fed up with every holiday in general these days. Either you’re having a way-to-huge-dinner that no one really wants to be at, or your arguing about whether you should go to so-and-so’s for whatever, or your listening to your kids whine because you won’t let them have a bunch of candy…any time off you do get from work is quickly chewed up by something you don’t really want to be doing.

I loved going crazy and irresponsible on NYE but now we have two kids under 5. So I bought some seafood for tonight and a beef roast for tomorrow.
Also, Clemson is legally obligated to play in this game right, I don’t think they play in any other bowls.
December 31st, 2012 at 7:56 PM
OK – good response from Clemson
December 31st, 2012 at 8:52 PM
2 under 5? try 2 under 2, scripty!

A year ago tonight I was wearing a suit and guzzling bourbon. Tonight I am in sweats and holding my 2-week old son. Changes pretty fast.

18 month old and 2 month old here. Thank God the 2 month old sleeps through the night. Her sister didn’t do that until 9 months.

Word to the wise, don’t marry Irish.

similar, Dem Bones. 21 months, and a 10 day old.
We have been very fortunate so far with the sleeping habits of both. it’s way early, though

Just got done watching “Ted” the movie, not really impressed. Had some funny moments, but went off the reservation. Guy in my office said it was a pissah, not really.

Great clock management by Dabo here. Wow. Pick it up.
December 31st, 2012 at 11:15 PM
I don’t if you make or miss it, just please don’t have it blocked/returned.

Les Miles Is An Idiot……Is There Anyone who Does Less With More? Other Than Kiffin.
LSU Deserves A Better Coach.
December 31st, 2012 at 11:24 PM
Roeth, lol, I was thinking the exact same thing. MISS ST should have covered against LSU back in November and the tigers got a late pick 6 to cover. I was thinking something along the same lines here. Congrats to us!
Will have more picks tomorrow morning. Right now, leaning strong on NW -2 and SOCAR -4.5. My nos. are looking good so far

What a new years eve. Taco bell and laundry. A real party
December 31st, 2012 at 11:43 PM
Taking this NYE off after two consecutive years of paying too much money to have a meh time.
December 31st, 2012 at 11:47 PM
The only time i ever went out for new years was to the ball drop in buffalo. They had this band playing infront of the building and about 100,000 people walking around the square. Wasnt too bad but id rather avoid the crowds and the drunks
