Shiner’s Ruby Redbird was one of my top 5 beer discoveries of the year.

This year’s batch had a much stronger ginger flavor than I remember, could barely taste the grapefruit.

Favorite beers since I moved to Austin are 512′ Pecan Porter and Austin Beerwork’s Pearl Snap Pilsner. I don’t think either brewery has much distribution outside of Texas, though.

Deviant Dale’s has been popping up around Baltimore bars lately. I believe its the Double IPA version of Dale’s.

Westword’s beer guy just named this his #1 new Colorado brew of 2012. I’m chastened that I haven’t tried it yet. Tonight we will rectify this.

Colorado folks…anything to look out for from Oskar Blues Brewery? They now distribute in Ohio, but I haven’t had any of their beers other than the Dale’s Pale Ale, which is getting traction on tap around Columbus. I have a great store across the street from me that stocks several of their flavors.

Deviant Dale’s has been popping up around Baltimore bars lately. I believe its the Double IPA version of Dale’s. Pretty solid if you are only drinking 3-4 brews. Old Chub also one of the better Scottish ales I’ve had.

Thanks for the insight, Gerard. I tend to enjoy when we can’t get the beers in Ohio. Makes me enjoy them a bit more when I can find them. We’ve had some good micros pull out in recent years due to low capacity/high demand issues.

My new fave local brewery is Upslope; haven’t had anything from them yet that hasn’t been stellar. I kinda doubt they distribute very far, unfortunately.

Oskar Blues: can’t go wrong with anything in my opinion. Just finished a six of Old Chub, fantastic. They are a tad pricey, but worth it.

Same here. Thanks for the heads up, Gerard. My girlfriend, and Colorado native, became a big fan of Kolsch beers this past Summer, so it gives me another to search for. Tragically, it looks like Illinois is the closest Ska gets.

Son of a bitch. I always miss the beer threads.

Standout beer from last week’s Colorado trip was Ska Brewing’s Modus Hoperandi. Can’t recall the last time I didn’t get worn out on an IPA after a few.

Ska is one of the best breweries in the West. They get less pub than New Belgium, Odell’s, Great Divide, etc., but their roster is fantastic. Modus in particular is a triumph. Steamworks (also out of Durango) is another really good one. Their Colorado Kolsch is one of the best summer beers ever.
