Two Texas Longhorns Players Accused of Sexual Assault at Hotel in San Antonio
KENS in San Antonio is reporting that two Texas Longhorn football players have been accused of sexual assault and are the subject of a criminal investigation by San Antonio police. The team is in San Antonio in advance of the Alamo Bowl.
According to the station, a woman accused the players of sexual assaulting her at her hotel room after she met them out partying and invited them back to her Holiday Inn hotel room. Team officials have been notified, and the unidentified players are expected to be questioned today. The accuser is reportedly a 21-year old from Texas Tech.

I don’t know who the players were, and of course they should be suspended pending the investigation. But I do wonder why the girl invited two football players back to her room after partying with them at 2AM.

Natural Light is the best-selling beer in the subpremium segment, the fifth-best-seller overall, and—at this writing, in the view of RateBeer.com—the second-worst beer in the world. (It trails Olde English 800, a malt liquor favored in the 1980s by Eazy-E and more recently by college students.

Speaking of Olde E. Any of you ever play “Edward 40-hands”? Its where you duct tape 40′s to your hands and see who can drink them first. You have to a have a female help you out with going to the bathroom. Its fun
December 28th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
As a former brewery worker, I can tell you that a lot of Busch and Busch Light are Budweiser or Bud Light that got too hot/cold or some other mechanical malfunction affected the brewing process. Back when we made a lot of Michelob, it was brewed at the highest quality and if there was any significant deviation we would turn it into Busch.

Never attended one that was a competition but Edward 40-hands was a regular in the college theme party rotation. “Good” times.

Yes, it ended disastrously/awesomely. We played in prep for a concert, four of us. I won by about ten mins, got cocky, and decided I’d drink a third while everyone else finished. I proceeded to pass out and lock my door to avoid being fucked with. Turns out the tickets were in my room, and I was beyond the point of being awoken by pounding on the door. Everyone missed the concert

I worked for A-B for about 7 years in the brewing department. Each brew is checked and re-checked throughout the process. If/when there was a point that the color/taste deviated, we turned it into Busch. Busch had its own recipe, sure, but it was also the safety valve.

im a multiple times daily pothead, and the first time i tried this oil, i was knocked the fuggout. it’s like walter white’s blue of pot.

the more you know…
December 28th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
I disagree. I don’t know what they are doing with it now but it was as good as any other back in the day. I thought the Michelob Light we brewed around 2006 was the best. Michelob didn’t have any adjunct or rice, it was straight barley malt just like beer was intended to be.
I know everybody loves craft beers these days but the small time brewers can’t match the consistency of the big guys. That too me is their biggest problem.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
That does sound rather sweet. I’ve only smoked hash in rock form. Assuming the oil is much more potent?

Black Douglas, what did you do at the brewery? A college friend of mine is a brewmaster for A-B and she says it’s her favorite urban legend that gets asked on just about every plant tour. It’s just not technically or economically feasible is her response.

which prison was this?
December 28th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
I can understand that. Since the In-Bev takeover of A-B, I don’t buy them much anymore. I try to go with Shiner or some of the mid-sized brewers. I don’t like crafts too much because they are always putting unnecessary stuff in there.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
Depends on your opinion of “big”. I think Sam Adams does a good job of balancing quality, consistency, and price.
I’m not above slumming it with a Miller Light though. There’s a time and a place for everything.

That’s cool. Anheuser-Busch has always hired the best employees. Their engineers are top notch.
I can’t speak for all breweries but any time there was a major deviation that affected color or taste, it was turned into Busch or Busch Light.
/Light, not Lite. Lite is a Miller thing you see.

Dogfish Head may put some crazy shit in their beer. But I’ll be damned if it isn’t tasty as hell. I like Brooklyn as well for cheaper “micro” brews. St. Arnolds here in Houston is overrated IMO.

This reminds me of the time my friend ordered one at a bar, not realizing it was an initialism. He pronounced it ee-pa

Same here. That was the worst.
Agree with earlier comment that there is a time and place for most beers, even the likes of Miller Lite. That said, I very rarely buy anything other than craft brews. I have a variety pack of Leinies that I got from my secretary that I need to try this weekend. Interested in how the vanilla porter is.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
I agree. Though I do like that you can still do the tours though. We used to have tours here at the A-B brewery in Houston in the 70′s but it has been generally closed to the public ever since. Though there are some occasions when you can bring family and friends there.

Vanilla Java Porter from that brewery in Michigan is great. Not sure if they still make it, I only could find it when I lived in Pittsburgh.

Yep.
My big issue with AB beers – they seemed to have pumped up the carbonation in them over the last 5-6 years. They’re way too bubbly, which is why I drink hard liquor almost exclusively now.

Karbach Rodeo Clown IPA is great. Southern Star out of Conroe makes some solid beers, bombshell blonde is good, buried hatchet stout is excellect.

December 28th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
Well since In-bev took over they have done away with a lot of their old Hop growers and such. Quantity over quality. I wouldn’t doubt that they would mess with that. I’m not sure though because that would have to be done at the filler and I didn’t work over there often.

Shiner’s Ruby Redbird was one of my top 5 beer discoveries of the year.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
My buddy has asked me to do the tour with him, but I haven’t had a chance yet. Guess I’ll give it a go.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
yeah, i like the hopadillo. the beers from southern star in conroe aren’t bad at all. if i really need a texas beer fix, though, i think i would go with something from real ale from blanco.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
I’m FAR from being a beer snob, but since I read that article Spencer linked here about In-bev, I’ve tried not to purchase any A-B products.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:43 PM
If you ever get down to Cincinnati, Jungle Jim’s has this for $7.99 a 12 pack. I enjoyed the heck out of it when it was 90 degrees outside.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:44 PM
Bring a huge cup to drink out of. You’ll enjoy it.
We had a family day at A-B Houston a couple of years ago (40th anniversary) and we were giving out free beer, had different bands playing, and free food. It was a blast.

Ha! My brother brews his own beer and I told him that if he wants to sell it the beer doesn’t have to be good, it just has to have a stupid name that people will think is cool.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
IN the way back machine, the local A-B brewery here did tours and gave you 3 beers at the end. We’d just wait till the next tour to come thorough and get 3 more. This was one way to get loaded while underage. Then somebody (not me or my friends) drove home drunk after a tour, and no more free beer.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Good stuff, I like the trout on the bottle.
December 28th, 2012 at 12:54 PM
A-B Houston had a Busch Gardens mixed in with the brewery but it was closed in the 70′s. Some of it is still used today but in a different capacity. The bird sanctuary is now a garden where all the smokers hang out. When A-B owned it they would change out the flowers every couple of weeks just for the hell of it.

Anyone have good New Year’s Eve plans? Friend’s dad shuts down one of his restaurants and throws a party there. Has his chef cater it and it’s open bar. In other words, one of the funnest parties of the year

Shiner’s Holiday Cheer reminds me of a jacked up #9 (stronger peach flavor, but along the lines of #9′s apricot).

Watched a PBS show about Houston architecture last night (while downing Magic Hat). Philip Johnson, I.M. Pei, Renzo Piano, the Menil, Rice Campus, Enron tower, downtown, all discussed. Made me really homesick.

Ska is one of the best breweries in the West. They get less pub than New Belgium, Odell’s, Great Divide, etc., but their roster is fantastic. Modus in particular is a triumph. Steamworks (also out of Durango) is another really good one. Their Colorado Kolsch is one of the best summer beers ever.

Fuck you.

Good to know. I will keep a look out for this.

To show them the spread option.

Same here. Thanks for the heads up, Gerard. My girlfriend, and Colorado native, became a big fan of Kolsch beers this past Summer, so it gives me another to search for. Tragically, it looks like Illinois is the closest Ska gets.

Colorado folks…anything to look out for from Oskar Blues Brewery? They now distribute in Ohio, but I haven’t had any of their beers other than the Dale’s Pale Ale, which is getting traction on tap around Columbus. I have a great store across the street from me that stocks several of their flavors.

Oskar Blues: can’t go wrong with anything in my opinion. Just finished a six of Old Chub, fantastic. They are a tad pricey, but worth it.

My new fave local brewery is Upslope; haven’t had anything from them yet that hasn’t been stellar. I kinda doubt they distribute very far, unfortunately.

Thanks for the insight, Gerard. I tend to enjoy when we can’t get the beers in Ohio. Makes me enjoy them a bit more when I can find them. We’ve had some good micros pull out in recent years due to low capacity/high demand issues.

Yeah, I love finding something unusual/unavailable locally — Pliny, say, although that happens much less frequently these days now that all of the cats left their bag.

Deviant Dale’s has been popping up around Baltimore bars lately. I believe its the Double IPA version of Dale’s. Pretty solid if you are only drinking 3-4 brews. Old Chub also one of the better Scottish ales I’ve had.

Old Chub for tonight it is. Thanks, gents.

Westword’s beer guy just named this his #1 new Colorado brew of 2012. I’m chastened that I haven’t tried it yet. Tonight we will rectify this.

This year’s batch had a much stronger ginger flavor than I remember, could barely taste the grapefruit.
Favorite beers since I moved to Austin are 512′ Pecan Porter and Austin Beerwork’s Pearl Snap Pilsner. I don’t think either brewery has much distribution outside of Texas, though.
