Boom.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:34 AM
The only negative of Stephanie Seymour is axel rose… And that time when she made out with her gay son on the beach last year. But she can still but she can still get it.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
Hey TBL – Congrats on the new baby!! Saw the tweets over Chrismas, this is #2, right? #2 is a whole new ballgame. My 2nd just turned 6 months old.

So does rex Ryan get more money, more power and the expensive changes he wants to fix the jets it are we looking at Norv Turner, HC of NYJ in 2013?

Her son needs to make a few trips to Hardees in the near future.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
At 44, Stephanie Seymour looks tremendous
Hard to believe it has been 20 years since Axl Rose beat her. What a dick. She was and still is perfect.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Yes, Congrats on the new baby, TBL.
Baylor is lucky nobody has snatched up Art Briles yet. I’m surprised. I’m not surprised that a 4-5 Big 12 team demolished a 6-3 Pac 12 team, though.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
It pains me to say this, but Mark Hollis is a visionary and it is a bummer that this event will not happen. It is a great idea when new ideas are rare.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
counterpoint: one college hoops game being aired is horrible enough.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:46 AM

Same here, hoping for the 3pm dismissal though

No roundup Monday, since nobody will be at work on New Year’s Eve.
Except like 90% of corporate America.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Shit, this might be the first time other people are going to work while I sit at home. On NYE.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Hope that works out for him. Couldn’t imagine that kind of non-stop, maddening sound. No matter what football broadcast I’m watching, I pick up some odd frequency/background din that I can’t figure out and that might soon drive me over the edge. But, at least I can’t hear my eyeballs moving.
December 28th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
thanks. so far so good. No. 2 is a better sleeper. No. 1 has had no problems adjusting, which is good. were your two both under the age of 2?
December 28th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
judging on my work’s past performances this holiday season, I’m not holding my breath on that either.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Yes. She does. Im sure her son agrees.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
She has 44-year old face and 24 year old body. Just like an infomercial. No thanks i just said to her. Then i had to comfort her and well one thing led to another and the poor thing got the minute she was looking for

Our company gets 7 paid holiday days a year. And New Years Eve isn’t one of them.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
The 2 years I have been in this office my boss hasn’t either. She is close to retiring and she let us leave at 3 when that snow storm hit us the other day so I am holding out hope
December 28th, 2012 at 9:02 AM

Move Christmas to the summer, having three four-day weekends from late November through January 1st isn’t as fun as it should be when you’re in the great white north
December 28th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
I had Cincy -7 (bet it early) and didn’t watch the game. Looks like I missed quite a finish.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
There are far more people out of my office today than there will be on Monday.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Congratulations. I have two girls. Second was a better sleeper too. You will discover how different they are from each other. You probably wont be so overly protective with the second child as you were with the first.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Fuck that shit.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
That read on fast food managers was impossible to read.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
My 2 kids are exactly 2 years apart. (separated by 1 week). #2 had colicky which made for a very miserable first 6 weeks. He’s much better now. I’ve had other parents tell me that you don’t really become a parent until you have 2 kids – I now know what they mean. With 1, you can still have somewhat of a social life.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Or move.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:07 AM

Ah yes. Better living through chemistry and surgery. Well executed on her part.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
How did she die in the November Rain video anyway? Was she struck by lightning? Did the cake-diving guy land on her?
December 28th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Congrats TBL. Got #2 coming in May. Both will be under 2. Fuck me…
December 28th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Stop being a slave to tradition man…plus I thought they believe now that Jesus was born in springtime, it all works
December 28th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Although I’m Winter’s #1 fan, I can get behind this. Mostly because Summer is the most hectic time for me with work and more extended weekends will help my sanity.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:09 AM

/scrooge
December 28th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
That she does. She actually looks better that that b/w noir Playboy photoshoot from March 1991
Congrats Jason on the 2nd child. Many good blessings to you and your family. We stopped after two, and mine are now 13 & 10. Boy and then girl. Time flies by quick. Enjoy it.
As for last nite’s Belk Bowl. I’m going to quit gambling for awhile (not giving up for good!). The way you lose a bet to something like that makes you wonder why you bet in the first place. Wow.
CIN score with 44 secs left on a TE down the seam. Ok, I can handle that, DUKE has given up monsterous plays all season. My boy goes “so, did you still win your bet?” I said “Not unless DUKE fumble/throws a pick 6 in the last 30 secs”.
Kiss of Death.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Wow. Nice.
Good luck with the recovery, Sean McDonough. That sounds terrifying. And ESPN college basketball broadcasts will be worse without you.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
But Randy Quaid really needs those Christmas Vacation royalties
December 28th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
That read on fast food managers was impossible to read.
I couldn’t get past the 5th paragraph. What a sap.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Riggs social life is not bad if you find other couples with kids who like to party. It also naturally cuts down on the bad side of nightlife….hangovers
December 28th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
TBL, best of luck with that second baby. Two is… harder. By a lot.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
When Duke had the second and goal with 1:15 left the odds of Cincy covering 9 had to be less than a hundredth of a percent, right?
December 28th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
So, people actually bet on Duke football? And Duke to win/cover?
Wow. I had no idea.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
TBL – Couldn’t you get one of the interns to do a New Years Eve roundup? Could include a whole bunch of “end of the year” links.. or, I don’t know, best posts/comments/gifs, etc from this site from 2012?
December 28th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
You think? We were up our first kid’s arse until the 2nd one was born. With the 2nd one, you think, eh, I’m tired to get excited about a cry, tumble or scream. Kids are resilient, I will give them that.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
I told my boy that when CIN picked Renfree off and ran it back. I told him that had to be 500:1 or 1000:1 odds that CIN wins ATS when DUKE had at 1st and goal with 1:15 left.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
I’m more so talking about just the ability to even sit down and watch a football game. With one, especially in infant stage – it’s pretty easy. Now with a 2 yr old and a 6 month old – it’s virtually impossible. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about it – it’s a new chapter in life that I fully enjoy – it’s just the reality of the situation. Having 2 or more puts you into full-time parent mode.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
We’ve perfected the art of coming in second at every tournament!!!
We’re number. 2!! We’re number. 2!!!

Don’t listen to them. While playing a zone can be more challenging than man-to-man, it’s more fun.

December 28th, 2012 at 9:21 AM

December 28th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
I actually like what Cutcliffe has done at DUKE. Ole Miss should have kept him/ Too many big plays this year given up by the DuKE’s Def.
Oh, did I mention, I had DUKE +9.5 when they played VATECH and were winning 20-0, before the Hokies ripped off 41 unanswered points?

Agreed. But you bet on Duke to cover? In a bowl game?
December 28th, 2012 at 9:26 AM

You’re joking, right? Every single bowl game gets a bigger pot save 2 or 3 regular season games.
Bowl games sure do matter to Vegas.

December 28th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
People sure are dumb:
The number of customers who reused their towels increased by 26% when information cards in hotel rooms read "75% of customers who stay in this hotel reuse their towels,"Research published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology found that a diner is more likely to tip a waiter if the bill comes with a piece of candy, for example.December 28th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
It’s amazing watching those games from the 90s just because of how different the football looks…so many bunched sets with tight ends as far as the eye can see and in cases like with the Packers there are zero shotgun snaps, compared with today it’s almost leather-helmet like
December 28th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Outside of Mountain Dew, Pepsi can get fucked.
Coke >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pepsi
December 28th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
lol…if i were that hypothetical burglar, id say “go ahead and shoot.”
a) it’d be a painless death
b) they’d kill themselves too
c) if they survived, their possessions i was intending to steal would be equally nonexistent to em, making the rocket launcher a moot home protection device
d) if call of duty modern warfare 2 has taught me anything, it’s that a kevlar vest will protect you from anything ever in military history

December 28th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
from an old wapo article…
he was a bigger critic of the 2nd iraq war than was publicized…the reasons he outlined for not pushing on to baghdad in the first gulf war should’ve been heeded the 2nd time around.

Correct, and since it’s your kid there is something biological that forces you to “embrace it”. Well, most of us have that. Then you hear the stories about two young children dying in a fire while their moms were at the club.
December 28th, 2012 at 9:59 AM

sc, I retired as an USAF O-6, but I was a captain back then.
(war story) I was in a unit flying out of the UAE for SHIELD/STORM. During the plus-up, reps from geographically separated units (GSUs) would get invited to Riyadh to brief the generals on their part of the plan.
I was a lowly action officer there to get a feel for the 4-star’s response to our prep, in order to take the suggestions/directions back to the unit for implementation.

There are way too many parents who really don’t want to be or just aren’t ready to be parents. Had my first kid when I was 30 – can’t imagine how poor of a dad I would have been at 18, 21, or even 25. Wasn’t ready.

I’m on the wife about taking the BC nightly. If I slipped one by the goalie, I’d find a very tall flight of stair and solve the problem.

Arkansas did this campus wide this past fall, including all athletic facilities. where Pepsi comes up with the money to do this I’m not sure, because I thought it was universally known that pepsi is all sorts of nasty.

December 28th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Late one night in the LA suburbs:
Burglar: (making obligatory break-in noises, tripping over furniture, etc.).
Homeowner: (confronting burglar) Stop, or I’ll fire!
Burglar: Wait, is that a non-functioning training launcher?
Homeowner: Heh heh heh. (bashes burglar over the head with non-functioning training launcher).
The End.

Pepsi has their hands in all sorts of disgusting (read: delicious) snacks and foods, which makes them a much larger company than Coke. They also own their own bottlers, which adds to the bottom line.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Seriously, what’s next? Are you going to tell me the security payment I make to the nice Russian fella in the Escalade every two weeks was caused by “manipulation”?
December 28th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
i choose to drink my beverages based on taste and not neat corporate synergy, thankyouverymuch.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
After doing a little research on Yahoo! Finance, it appears I’m wrong about this. Coke is a bit bigger, but the snacks and food drives Pepsi’s profits.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
I just like that there’s no questions on this listing… like a rocket launcher is so common on ebay no one has any questions about it. “oh look honey, is that the rocket launcher you were looking at in Cabella’s? Not a bad price, right? Glad that guy behind the counter answered all your rocket launcher questions there, I feel comfortable bidding on this anti-tank weapon and using my paypal account to buy you an early birthday present”
December 28th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
I’m too lazy to look…what kind of snacks does Pepsi make? I can only hope I hate them as much as I hate Pepsi itself.
The worst kind of Pepsi? Pepsi Max. I’d rather lick asshole than drink that. Coke Zero is a million times better.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Pepsi>>>>>>>>>>Coke. Coke sucks. Drank it as a child, but hate it now. Diet Pepsi over everything else if given a choice. Full strength sodas are poison.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
it’s just a plastic tube without a rocket to fire…good luck finding/affording ammo! it’s not like a bullet where you can make your own. not sure why there’s criticism for this.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
That’s what I’m thinking. Wife and I are tired of our old and crappy sony point and shoot. Time to step it up to something nicer. I was thinking this. Any advice on DSLRs?
December 28th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
Well, it does say it’s completely legal in a different color font. How much more credible can you get?
December 28th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
I should amend that by saying Diets sodas are probably no better due to the chemicals. I don’t drink it often. Mostly flavored seltzer water. Sodastream FTMFW.

Whoops. Sorry Rex. Never saw that movie.
It is pretty impressive that someone actually had a rocket launcher in his home, even a trainer unit. The’d never let us do that in today’s military.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
And speaking of Tostitos, they go perfectly with this sausage dip:
1 lb. of sausage
16 oz. block of cream cheese
1 can Ro-Tel (drained)
Fry sausage, drain. Return to pan, add cream cheese and Ro-Tel. Stir until cheese melts. Eat.

The Canon T4i is a good camera, I’m partial to the feel of Nikon’s in my hands, check out the Nikon D3200, it’s comparable, nice sensor.
whichever you get, pick up a 50mm f/1.8 lens. it’s about $150, great for low light, very lightweight and if you want to approach photography as a hobby and learn about basic composition to take better pictures, totally worth it.

Home alarm/dogs are far better remedies for break-ins than guns. No burglar will stick around once that loud ass alarm starts going off.

I think someone probably touched the car that shouldn’t have. Not necessarily to brek in though. Are you saying a home alarm going off will be ignored? I hope not, because that would be very dumb.

OT: Anyone here a current/former Bill Simmons fan?
At this point, I’ve stopped reading his columns entirely and never watch “NBA whatever he’s on”. The occasional podcast is the limit of my Simmons’ consumption. Not sure the moves he’s made the past few years will be good for his career long-term. Then again, I don’t know how profitable a popular book is
December 28th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
stopped reading him a while ago. I check out grantland every now and then, but hardly see an article by him, it’s like he’s perpetually in TBL.com NYE day mode.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
When’s the last time you heard a car alarm going off and assumed that car was being broken in to?
because they;re so common. home burglar alarms are not, and the burglar is not going to stick around if occupants wake up.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
I usually read his columns. Never listen to podcasts. The columns amuse me so I have kept reading. Do I agree with him on everything? No, but it still passes the time.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
I’ll probably start with the 18-55mm EF-S IS II Lens. I’m a little worried that the DSLR will be so advanced that I’ll never learn to use it or take advantage of its features. Thoughts on this?
December 28th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
I never watch pre-game shows of any kind, in any sport either.

Pretty much all of this. Will skim his “NFL picks” column and listen to NFL (non-Lombardi versions) and MLB podcasts but that is it. Just turned himself into a clown.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Regarding DSLRs, if you’re going to spend the money for one, please please please learn to use manual mode instead of any of the other modes. Having control over aperture and shutter speed is really where SLRs have the advantage over other cameras (and the sensor size and the lenses are advantages too of course). Ultimately it isn’t the tool but how it’s used. I still use a 5d and actually sold my fast primes since I’m using an old kit lens which meets my needs.

See, this is what I want to learn. I’m just worried that setting up the picture in manual mode will take me so long the moment (usually involving kids) will be lost.

Not surprising, typical middle-of-nowhere western outpost. Reminds me of some central valley and inland towns in CA
December 28th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
you’re overthinking it. the same basic ideas apply to having an entry level DSLR camera as a point and shoot camera that you are already using: just take pictures. don’t worry about mastering the features, just yet, anyway.
you’ll see a marked improvement in your photos just by making the switch with a good lens for a few reasons: 1.) the DSLR has better low light picture capabilities 2.) the camera will be faster 3.) and the high frame rate will be more forgiving if you want to take action shots than a P&S
some people use only auto settings, and that’s fine, others find they want more manual control over shutter speeds, ISO, or aperture and that’s fine, too. DSLR give you the option how you want to take your pictures.
December 28th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Since nobody reads NBA posts, I’ll make my point here. I predict the Clippers will get somebody hurt in a blowout by pouring it on. They continue to leak out, shoot with 15 seconds on the shot clock, and throw alley oops with a few mins left in blowouts. I have no problem with running up the score, but I think it’s going to come back to bite them eventually. Very unprofessional and teams are going to be pissed off
December 28th, 2012 at 10:56 AM

December 28th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
There is literally always “the next moment”. You will develop some “go to” settings that most likely won’t change every picture. A good lens is key. Go 2.8 if you can swing it on at least one of your lenses. And just keep shooting. You will learn just as much from the “bad” pictures as the good ones. And just keep shooting.
December 28th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
It’ll take time but you’ll get the hang of it. Aperture priority is usually a good secondary mode and one I used a lot at first. The hang up with letting the camera decide is that the light meter reads a whole scene and tries to guess on the right exposure, when the subject you want to shoot may need a different exposure (if you’ve ever gotten a well exposed background and a dark subject, that’s basically what I’m talking about). The good thing with the web now is that there are a ton of resources to learn good exposure techniques, it’ll quickly become second nature to know that, for example, a given room in your house may need an ISO of 3200, an aperture of 2.8 and a shutter speed of 1/50th sec or something like that.

Just to make sure I understand the meme: it’s when somebody goes on a long-winded explanation, providing more details than necessary?
December 28th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
that may happen at first until you get used to how the ISO, Shutter and Aperture adjustments can be anticipated in certain conditions/settings.
i like reading this blog from time to time, helped me out when i wanted to learn a little more about how to take a photo
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech.htm
it’s also worth looking around for classes in your area. i took a couple that were very basic in terms of what does what on a camera and some that were more advanced, like, composition.

Research published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology found that a diner is more likely to tip a waiter if the bill comes with a piece of candy, for example.
I think the use of Tim Ryan in this study may have skewed the results…
